The Official #$@% Cancer Trip: It's All About Mom PTR/Live-TR - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad it's all going OK. Re the neuropathy - any way to call your mom's doc and see if they can call in her an RX of gabapentin (gab is generic, brand name is neurontin)? That's what my mother took for hers. I think there is a drug store around there that will deliver to you. You can ask at the concierge desk.
Sounds like a great trip,Mitch the exception of the worsening neuropathy. When she gets back home, see if F-C has a physiatrist who specializes in breast cancer rehab. They can set her up with a PT program to try to help with some of that.
I'm not surprised you're tired - just reading the detail from that day has made me feel tired!
yeah. we are doing a lot. and when she goes to bed, i do other things. because i'm all like 'I'M IN DISNEY WORLD!' i sort of stopped that today, finally.

i'm SO GLAD she's enjoying food. she needs to gain weight and also be happy. this trip is helping with both.

A kind CM even pushed me up on my last trip, although I do think this is against the rules.
I just have to add: Tzatziki Martini? So, a garlic-cucumber martini? Okaaaaay.....
as i will share in a future update: yeah. i learned today that i need to advocate for her more with regards to 'no really, she CAN'T walk'.
and there was no garlic in the martini. it was cucumber vodka, some kind of greek yogurt liqueur, and a dill garnish.

Sounds like your mom is really enjoying a lot of the food options. That's wonderful!

i'm super glad, too! thought today she decided: no more pork. she had a chicken aversion and doesn't really like fish, so she's been eating a lot of pork. i'm hoping i find something for her tomorrow.

i will ask about that tomorrow. though tomorrow is our last day, she's then flying down to miami to spend the weekend with her brother, so that may help (i am concerned about that plan. i was from the beginning. but she thinks i'm stubborn. and i know where i got it from!) thanks!!!

no, she is powering on! i keep being all like 'we don't have to X, Y, or Z' and she's like 'yes we do'. so we have been.

she already has weekly PT. she arrives home on monday and has PT on tuesday. and starts radiation on wednesday.
again, i now know where i get...a lot of me...from.
i woke up around 7am and decided to go back to sleep because she was not up yet. she came out into the living area at around 7:45 and woke me. she had the same pink bag in her hand that had once contained the shirt i got her. she shook it at me and was like 'i got you a present'. so i sat up and took the bag.
note: i gave up early on the whole 'one present a day' plan. because she's trying really hard to not only not make me spend any money on this trip (i've been out of work for almost seven months) but also actively trying to get me to spend HER money (she is afraid she is going to die and all of her savings will go to her husband and then his kid.) she actually said to me--in epcot, in morocco on day two--'you're not doing a very good job of spending my money here'. but i CAN'T. i just can. not. it's not my nature.
anyway. so i opened the bag.
flashback to the day before. we are walking to the land pavillion and we pass a woman on a bench. and she has a food and wine fest dooney and bourke bag. and i stop and am like: that's an awesome bag! because it was, and people like to hear when things are awesome. right?
so that night, when she sent me around the world and insisted on going back to the room alone, she instead scooted all the way into future world (from france) and found the bag and bought it for me.
i like the bag. i more than love the amount of effort she put into it.
and that's all i'm going to say about that.
so because of the whole sleeping in and opening presents--and then waiting for the bus--we arrived at AK a little late. which sort of threw everything off. by the time we got through the gate, it was 9:53am. i know this because we wanted to make the 10am lion king show. and there was just no way at that point. animal kingdom is stressful for me with her, as she wants to see ALL OF THE SHOWS. and because of distance and start/end times and run times, you just can't.
so instead we started the day with tough to be a bug, which worked out perfectly time-wise and was super, super accessible. yay accessibility! (though she did rabbit-speed through the queue. i jogged.)
the new plan was to do the 11am lion king, but mom decided that she'd be too hungry by the time it was over, and instead wanted to do the 10:45 flights of wonder show, followed by lunch at flame tree, followed by the noon lion king.
if anyone reading this understands time and distance, they will get why this is insane. but we made it. here's how:
she scooted from flights of wonder to flametree SO FAST. i briefly lost her. upon arrival (after pausing for ten whole seconds to watch the macaws take flight) i found her studying the menu. she told me to get one rib platter for the two of us, and she scooted off to get a seat. so i did.
she ended up loving the ribs, in no small part because of the spicy bbq sauce i brought back from the condiment station. she currently loves spicy things, so it was a good choice.
by the time we left flametree it was 11:38. yes, i know this. this is how close attention i was paying to time at this point. but i had to go to the bathroom. i absolutely had to. she was scooting at rabbit speed, i was jogging behind her, and heather (our heather, who has a name here but i forget what it is because she is just heather to me) was messaging me that she and her friend were going to meet us at lion king (yay! goal of 'see heather' achieved!) i sent mom ahead and stopped at the old original africa restrooms (because i didn't know that there were new ones near the new theater. whoops.)
when i arrived at the lion king, almost everyone was inside, and a girl i'd never seen before was waving at me and calling my name--heather's friend, who was sent out to bring me in. apparently they made mom park her scooter outside and walk in, which she can't do. heather helped her get to her seat, and then after the show insisted on a wheelchair to get her back out. which was super fantastic.
i love the lion king, and being in the second row--on the floor--was also super awesome.
we then all went on KS together, and i saw more animals than i have ever seen before. i credit the fact that i did not have a camera.
after ALL of that was over, mom decided she was tired and needed to go back to the room.
and then the second part of the day happened. but i have decided that i am tired, and cannot write it right now.
stay tuned for yesterday part two, tomorrow! (or the next day. this whole live trip report thing is HARD!)

Oh wow, the bag is such a sweet present! Sounds like your mom is really enjoying her time and I love how she's scooting around, leaving you trailing at times!
This is why I only do some very short updates while we're at Disney, as I find I just don't have time for full live updates. I have no end of respect for those of you who manage to do that.
You're doing amazing with the live reports. I can only do them because I travel alone. I'd never be able to do it on a trip like this one! It's great that you saw Heather! If you ever need an advocate at Disney, Heather is the one. She'll speak right up and also knows the ins and outs of what can and can't be reasonably done for you.
Yeah, the live reports in much detail do wear a person out. I learned that last year when I finally realized that I was spending my traditional R&R time of an afternoon writing, rewriting, proofreading, etc. Decided I was not doing that much live updating this year......probably.
I am simply delighted to hear that the trip is going as your mom hoped. That's a pure marvel. She must be massively determined to keep going and have an ironclad constitution besides. Good to hear as well that her appetite seems to be recovering from the weirdnesses of chemo.
Now, if only you can survive all that jogging to catch up, huh?
