As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Saturday 14 June part nine: exploring cottages and cow sheds at Cregneash
We drove a couple of miles further up the road to Cregneash, where we parked up, and took in the beautiful views from there back across Port St. Mary
We were here to visit Cregneash Living Village, which was first opened to the public in 1938, making it the first living village in the UK. We wandered along the path, and found a cow here
along with some ruins
and a thatched cottage
We headed down to the ticket place, where once again we showed our National Trust membership cards, and were admitted free. Mark bought me a souvenir guidebook, and look what he got back Manx money!
The woman in there gave us a wonderful explanation of everything there is to see here, then suggested we watch the introductory video, which we did, before heading upstairs to learn a bit more about this place
We headed first into the former cow shed, where the girls used to learn how to milk cows. As I said to Mark, at least they were practiced before they were let loose on my boys!
We found this cute little guy in here
Then we went to Harry Kellyscottage, which was the one that started it all, as it was the first property to be purchased for public exhibition. Its a two roomed crofters cottage, made up of the kitchen and bedroom. The half-loft was accessed by a ladder, and provided additional storage or sleeping accommodation.
The children would sleep upstairs, but as the woman in there explained, the oldest ones slept nearest the drop, and there was a huge fishing net out to catch them, should the worst happen .
The cottages are very quaint. I notices the dishes on the hutch, it reminds me of my grandmother, she had some of the blue patterns too!!! What a great way to learn how to milk the cows.
Next we headed into the farm. Wed been told we might see a Manx cat here, and sure enough, a couple of minutes later, one came bounding over!
Then we went to go and visit the pig, who wed been told by the girl in the shop was a monster, and only a year old and wow, she wasnt kidding.
The woman here would feed her grass and, as you can see, she seemed to love it!
Eventually she got too hot or bored of us, and trotted off to go and roll in the mud. Look at the state of her afterwards!
Our Manx feline friend re-appeared, and was very friendly
Then I heard a commotion, and found these cute guys!
Apparently the hen had 12 chicks, and 11 have made it this far. The dad is apparently very parental, and looks after them very well, which is good to hear.
Next we went inside the farmhouse, and the woman told us so much that I cant remember much now. I remember that this is a Manx dresser and they did all sorts of things to it in its life to get it to fit into rooms, cutting bits out so it fitted underneath beams etc. I also remember that the jugs have to face inwards, which is now a superstition thing, although it started out that it was to stop dirt from blowing into them when the front door opened
She also told us this was the church before the church was built, and its a very well to-do house, which you could tell from all the timber used in it, as there were no timber supplies on the island when it was built, which hadnt even crossed my mind.
There were also some very cool cow photos in here!
We found another Manx cat when we came out it really was our lucky day for this!
Once we were done in here, we headed over to see the church
I made a rather alarming discovery while I was in there. My first battery, that had been fully charged, had died a little bit earlier, just before we saw the pig, and Id put a second one in, having checked it earlier, and it too was fully charged. Well, it cant have been, because now it was showing barely any charge after maybe 50 photos. I searched in my bag for my third battery, because I was sure I had that with me, but could I find it? I couldnt now what?
We headed back to the car, and I suggested maybe we should just head for our B&B in Douglas. Wed said wed be there between 4:00pm and 5:30pm, but when I checked, their check-in time was anytime from 2:00pm to 10:00pm, so if we were early, it really wouldnt be an issue, so off we went.
Again, we went on some of the TT course .
We passed through the lovely village of Ballasalla .

I know, right? It's probably my own fault for not double checking that the batteries were fully charged before leaving home. I think I checked one and forgot to do the other one. Oh well, lesson learnt! I won't be doing that again.
