The Perpetual Disney Adventures with the D Family TR - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like a fun day. Super cute ears and pictures! What size ears did you end up getting? When we bought Cameron his ears I think we got "infant" size. I'm wondering if I'll need to get him new ears this next trip. I suppose I could just pull down his ears and try them on him, but they are up on a shelf and that would require a ladder.
I have caught up on your TR's and can't wait for more! I had to giggle when you said your mom called to sing you Happy Birthday... my MIL does that every year for all 6 of us... well 5 of us anyway... she sometimes forgets my birthday with it being right before Christmas. How exciting that you can just "pop" over the WDW for a few hours... that would be so much fun! I can imagine you are quite popular with friends and family! Looking forward to reading more of your family's adventures.
Sorry you weren't feeling well but I adore Stella's ears!
Thank you!!! I definitely felt better than the previous day.

I am going to hope that Allen wouldn't have gotten her ears without me there but yes, definitely glad I was there to choose and photograph them with her!

I am pretty certain that they child size, not infant (and definitely not adult.) I'll double check them when Allen gets home (they are in his trunk!)

Thank you! It was so surreal when Tyler's birthday rolled around last week and I realized that I sing to him just like my mom sings to me! Funny how we pick things up and don't even realize it!
My niece's birthday is on Christmas so she could totally empathize with you on the timing of her birthday.

After saying goodbye to the princesses , we headed outside to retrieve our stroller and call FIL to figure out where those 2 were. As it turns out, they easily walked onto BTRM and Tyler rode Splash Mountain while FIL waited for him (FIL decided to give KRR a try the previous day at AK and he found himself in the “unlucky” seat. He didn’t want to risk being soaked again so he sat that ride out. ) We decided to head towards Tomorrowland and meet up there.
Allen noticed some people gathered near the Mickey and Princess FP Kiosks and we realized it was Mary Poppins and one of her penguin friends doing a M&G. The line was short so we quickly jumped in line.
Stella wasn't sure about them at first:
But she did oblige for a photo:
As we walked away, I realized we needed to procure a copy of Mary Poppins STAT because my poor child isn't aware of how supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Mary Poppins is!
As we headed down Main Street USA, I couldn’t help but stop Stella to grab a few more photos of her ears!
We veered right at the Plaza and followed the path over to Tomorrowland. Allen grabbed Buzz FP’s and we decided we would go in to the Monster’s Laugh Floor (because we were determined to enjoy any A/C we could find!) MIL needed a quick bio break though so Allen escorted her to the bathrooms near SM while I parked the stroller and FIL took turns lifting the kids onto his shoulders (mind you one of those kids is a large kid! LOL!)
We timed the Laugh Floor as perfectly as possible and just entered the holding area right before they closed the doors so it was less than probably 2 minutes before the doors to the theatre opened and we started heading in. We hung out in the back of the pack because none of us felt particularly like being trampled as others rushed into the theatre. We ended up getting almost an entire row to ourselves towards the back, which was great because Stella was able to stand while I held onto her so she could see everything (she’s still a bit short to see over the seats yet.) The show was funny and we got to see one part that we hadn’t seen before (or at least I hadn’t seen before.) I could hear FIL laughing pretty much the whole time, so I’d say it was a hit for him.
By the time the show was over, our Buzz FP window was open so we hoped in line to take our turn battling Zurg. As we were moving through the line, I asked Stella who she wanted to ride with and she said MIL. Well, Tyler was irritated because he also wanted to ride with MIL but I decided to let Stella do it since she actually hadn’t done this with her before and Tyler has many times in the past. Tyler continued to press the issue during our quick pass through the line and suggested that they all 3 ride together. I said no because Stella actually likes using her own laser gun and playing along now and if they rode all together, she wouldn’t get to play on her own. Tyler wouldn’t drop it so finally I looked at him, locked my jaw and told him if he didn’t drop it, he and I would be heading home that instant. That flipped his attitude from whiny child to sullen child so when he and I boarded our spaceship, he was full on pouting. Allen and FIL had been ahead of us in line and didn’t realize the drama that Tyler was having so when they turned their spaceship around and saw Tyler pouting, Allen asked what was wrong. I told him that evidently Tyler wanted to end his day early at MK for his attitude. Some exaggerated “huffs” and throwing his arms up like he had no idea what he was doing wrong later, he finally decided to build a bridge a get over it. He knows I’m serious and while I love WDW, and I’ll even march on when I’m not feeling well, I WILL NOT drag around a pouting child at WDW. I find that when he is around his grandparents (on both sides), he will really try and test his limits- and then he will be sullen hoping they will come to his rescue.
All seemed to be copasetic by the time we exited Buzz so I was hopeful that we had gotten the whines out of our system for the day.
I noticed that Buzz’s M&G line was the shortest I’d ever seen it and Stella didn’t have his signature in her book so I asked her if she wanted to meet him quickly. She declined though and instead we decided to take a ride on TTA. As we got in the very quick line, Tyler was already making seating arrangements and wanted to ride with MIL and Stella in one car while I would ride with Allen and FIL in another. I didn’t say anything but when we got to the top and told the CM how many people in our party, I quickly veto’d Tyler’s plans and got in the same car as him, MIL and Stella so that I could take pictures. He knew he was dangerously close to heading home so he didn’t say anything after I gave him my “don’t you dare talk back to me” look.
As we rode through Tomorrowland, Stella had a change of heart about seeing Buzz so when we exited, we headed over to see him. FIL, MIL and Tyler decided to sit in the shade rather than wait in line. We had packed some fruit to snack on at the parks and it came in very handy at this point- keeping Stella occupied and refueling the whole crew.
As we waited, Buzz ended up needing to take a quick break to check on his spaceship and a few people jumped out of line (probably not realizing that he would be back very quickly.) No complaining for us though, it meant less time in line! Stella got her autograph book ready and waited patiently for her turn.
The last few times we’ve seen Buzz and Woody at DHS, she’s been nervous to approach them on her own… probably because Woody towers so tall over her! I wasn’t sure if she’d easily go up to Buzz or not but she did! He stamped her book and then they posed for a few pictures.
After seeing Buzz, we decided to head towards New Fantsyland for Enchanted Tales with Belle. Stella has been asking to see Belle for several weeks (and we haven’t seen her in a few trips) so we wanted to make a point to do this attraction. The ILs did this attraction during a trip they took in January but they didn’t seem to have any feelings (one way or another) about it. I think because they were on their own and didn’t participate, they probably didn’t get the full effect. Tyler was totally game to try and earn the role of the Beast so I was sure that they’d feel differently after experiencing it again with us.
The standby wait was posted at 30 minutes but I think we went quite a bit faster than that- once you reach Maurice’s cottage and the a/c, the wait is definitely manageable. Tyler was anxious because he really wanted to be the Beast so I told him to just be sure and stand in the front with the other kids and give a good roar when the CM asked for it.
Sure enough, Tyler got to be the Beast! Because Stella had been wanting to see Belle, Allen and her also decided to participate as silverware but then once inside the room, she changed her mind and they sat on the benches with me. We were the last adults in the room so unfortunately the only seat left was in the middle of a bench in the 2nd row- not exactly a prime spot to take photos but I was able to make it work.
When the time came to parade around the room, Belle grabbed Stella’s hand so she could participate- which she did! She was a little shy at first but she got through it.
When it came time for Tyler to dance with Belle, I was so excited!! He was quite the gentleman and danced very sweetly with her.
Again Stella was invited to go up and have her picture taken with Belle, even though she didn’t have a “part.”
We decided to head next to Under the Sea and see how long the wait was. It was posted at 30 minutes and everyone decided they didn’t want to wait so we headed next to Dumbo- which was on Stella’s request list. It was a walk on but we decided to let the kids play inside for just a bit and take a break from the heat.
After about 10 minutes, we decided to head out and take flight. Allen and FIL decided not to ride after all so it was just MIL, Stella, Tyler and myself. Tyler wanted to ride with Stella but he isn’t old enough (nor do I feel comfortable having them ride without an adult) so Stella rode with MIL and Tyler and I rode together.
After a spin on Dumbo, Tyler wanted to check Stella’s height for the Barnstormer to see if she was finally tall enough to ride. She seemed game for it so we headed there next. Stella stepped up to the measuring stick and guess what- she was just tall enough!! There was no way we couldn’t ride it so the ILs went into the Big Top gift shop while we got in line.
Again, Tyler would have liked to ride with Stella but she rode with Allen while Tyler and I yet again rode again. We got the first row and I got my phone out to take some photos of Stella on her first ever rollercoaster!!
via Instagram
I looked back during the ride to see if she was smiling or crying and couldn’t really tell. When the ride came to an end, I looked back again and at first she looked scared but then she started laughing- it was a hit!!! I fully anticipate that she will be my fearless child.
At this point, we could see some dark clouds approaching and figured we had a bit of time before the rain rolled in. We didn’t bring our ponchos so we didn’t want to get caught in the showers. MIL really wanted to try the Nutella Waffle Sandwich that I had told her about so we headed towards Sleep Hollow Refreshments. I opted for some soft serve ice cream to share with Stella, and Allen and Tyler both got root beer floats. We all devoured our treats rather quickly. MIL got her sandwich and as she was eating it, she said “I thought there was ice cream on this and not chocolate.” ??? Turns out she didn’t know what Nutella was (not sure how that’s possible!?!) I think she ate most of the sandwich but she must have mentioned the chocolate thing at least 3 times.
MIL still wanted ice cream so they decided to head to the ice cream parlor on the way out while I wanted to go into the Emporium to check out the Halloween merchandise. Allen and Tyler decided they also needed a bit more ice cream so they went with the ILs and Stella and I headed to the Emporium.
After sufficiently checking out the merchandise and making a mental note of a few items I want to be sure and purchase, I headed out to Main Street to watch for the rest of our crew. I figured I’d see them leaving the parlor but I also sent Allen a text to let him know we had stepped outside. We must have just missed them because after some time passed, we hadn’t seen them and so I started calling Allen. It took a few times for him to pick up- evidently my calls and message didn’t go through to his phone and they had managed to walk all through the Emporium looking for us. MIL was shopping for a souvenir for DNiece so I met Allen at the exit and he went to find MIL. MIL ended up also picking up a prize for Stella to open later than night when Tyler opened his birthday gifts. She wasn’t quite done shopping but Stella was starting to get fussy so we told them we were going to start heading towards the exit. We ended up just catching a monorail and they just missed it so we were a little bit ahead of them.
After a quick stop at the Hess station for a ginormous diet coke , we were heading home. We were celebrating Tyler’s birthday that evening and then were planning to head to DHS for rope drop the next day.

Sounds like much fun was had. Yippee for Stellas first roller coaster. I'm thinking Cameron will be tall enough on our next trip and I look forward to taking him on roller coasters. I need him to be my ride buddy for when his dad chickens out!
