A First Timers Disney Vacation Education (01/07-01/23) TR - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Congrats on your new trip! Can't wait to start reading your PTR!
Sounds like a good morning at AK. I can't wait to try Tusker House when we go in May, so I'm glad to hear you had a good experience. And dinner at WCC -- loved your food pics! I'm getting hungry just looking at them!

Great update! Sounds like you had a good day. Love the Jungle Juice at Tusker House! I actually make it at home sometimes, yummy! Your son Alex is a lot like my son, always hungry. We carry around a container of cereal for him to munch on so the meltdowns are cut to a minimum, especially in WDW as he can get overwhelmed from the crowds as well. It really helped us quite a bit on our last trip when it was much warmer since we usually go in the cooler months. I am so glad you enjoyed WCC and had a great server. Our server was good but did not "play" with us very much but we did enjoy his antics with another table. We have only been for breakfast so we must try dinner next time. Can't wait to read more. Keep it coming!
Snacks are a great idea. I am def going to try that on our next trip. Our server did not "play" with us much either but with Alex's mood it was most likely better that way.

I think you will like Tusker House. The characters are great and the food is really good.

I woke up first today but Alex was up soon after and once Alex gets up everyone is up. He makes sure of it. We all got up, whoever needed to shower got showered. Tom and I got Alex ready. At about 8:30 we were ready to head to HS. The trip to HS was uneventful and we parked. After we got through bag check and the turnstiles we made our way to Hollywood and Vine for a Disney Jr. Breakfast. I checked us in and before we could even sit our name was being called. We went in and got situated. Our server took our drink order and we went up for food.
Alex has never watched much Disney Jr and he got a little annoyed that his breakfast was interrupted by seeing characters but the characters were so great with him that he was very happy after the first one. As we were eating the first character came to our table and for the life of me I can’t remember his name (now I know it is Special Agent Oso, thank you PP friends). Alex wasn’t quite sure of him either if you can’t tell.
After the bear, please someone tell me his name, Dora (and now I know her name is June again thank you fellow PP's. As you can tell Alex rarely watches these shows but I am glad I learned something new) came over and Alex like her. He was in mid chew for the pictures.
Handy Manny came over a few minutes later.
After Handy Manny Jake the Pirate came over but at this point Alex was a little cooked on characters and breakfast and ready to go so I got my picture taken with Jake.
We all really enjoyed our breakfast, Hollywood and vine is a great casual atmosphere with great food. We were very hungry which is why there are no pictures of it. Once we settled the bill we were on our way. It was chilly and cloudy out today which we didn’t mind since it seemed to keep the crowds away too. We made our way to Star Tours which had about a 20 min wait. My aunt and I went on since Tom doesn’t really do well with those kids of rides. The wait said 20 min but it was really a walk on. I enjoyed Star Tours but the ride went by so fast I was left wanting more which I guess is the point. We browsed in the store and then walked towards Muppet 4D we didn’t go on it just walked around and took in all the sights. I loved the skyline of New York and as you can see crowds here were light.
I saw the Honey I Shrunk the Kids play set and thought that would be great for Alex. Before we could go into the playground we had to make the pressed pennies from the penny machine nearby. This is one thing I have not mentioned yet. Alex LOVED to make the pressed pennies. Whenever we saw one he wanted to stop and get them. I still have to go through how many we got and what we have. I am sure this will be something we do on every trip so I will have to make sure I get a checklist so we don’t end up with too many duplicates.
We went in and Alex immediately went to play. He loved the slides and continued to go up and down them. I was really surprised he was so comfortable here since everything is so big but he went right in.
It was very hard to get him to leave here he could have stayed all day. We decided to go on the Backstage Tour next. The wait for this one was about 20 min and Alex did not like the waiting much but he put up with it ok. Once we were let in they started the special effects show. Now this is where one of my lessons comes in. Research the rides!! This will come into play more as the trip goes on as well. Well Alex is afraid of loud noises and fire, this attraction had both. Needless to say he did not like and I held him very close. For how loud it was he did very well. After that we made our way to the trams, it was kind of like a train so Alex enjoyed it.
When we got to the part in the Canyon again Alex was scared but he held on to me and was able to not be so scared. I have sometimes tried to avoid things with Alex that would mess with his sensory issues but I find that sometimes when he is exposed to it he does better and realizes that everything is ok. After we excited the ride I wanted to look more at some of the movie costumes and things in their but it was too crowded and Alex was having none of it. I took Alex out and found a non crowded spot for him to decompress. After a few minutes he was doing better so we left the area and made our way to TSMM. The wait for TSMM was wayyy too long and all the FP were gone for the day. As we approached TSMM it started to rain. When we saw the wait was too long and now Alex was still grumpy, I realized it was time for lunch. Plus it was now raining quite hard so quickly made our way back to Backlot Express and got some lunch. I thought Alex was hungry but this is how he spent lunch.
Next Up – Did the Rain let up and a 50’s Prime Time Dinner!!
Thank You for Reading!

Sounds like a great morning! How funny that Alex was getting annoyed at the characters interrupting his breakfast BTW, the bear you met first is Special Agent Oso, and the girl is actually named June (not Dora, though I do see the resemblance ), she's from the Disney Junior show Little Einsteins. Looking forward to more!
Great breakfast! The bear's name is Special Agent Oso and the girl's name is June. Hope the rain stopped enough to let you enjoy the rest of the day at DHS.
Ok just finding your TR. Great start so far except for Alex being sick! Please tell me it was short lived and nobody else got sick!!
Ok off to finish reading the rest!

We have ADR's for Hollywood and Vine this June - my youngest LOVES OSO, and the Einstiens The older two love Jake & crew...thanks for the great review! I love reading your report and can really identify with you in regard to the language issues. My youngest is speech delayed - though he's finally starting to progress with mixture of verbal sounds and sign language.
