Spooky Foodie Fun - TR from Adventurous Stranger!! - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh I'm sorry about the rain, but it sounds like a great event! I think I'm going to have to plan our next F&WF trip to include it!
it is a definite must do!

I love me some Capt. Jack! Yes, we definitely got our money's worth even before it was cut short.

The weather will definitely make the event (and the next day as well) very memorable. I was channel surfing the other night and Chef English was on TSN selling his new cookware - I was like "I met him!!" Hope you folks weren't too drenched for your dinner!

a little (or in this case a whole lot) of rain never hurt anybody at disney!
Despite our late, late night I woke up at 8:30am. I opened the curtain a wee bit to confirm that indeed it was still raining cats and dogs. I then realized I was on vacation and promptly went back to sleep for another hour. Gee Whiz, I love those beds!!!
So at 9:30 we finally got up, dressed and headed to the bus for AK. At this point I was texting unewillow regarding our meeting somewhere in the park. she was over in Camp Minnie Mickey so we planned to head straight there. Good thing I wore my water shoes and poncho because the rain was CRAZEEEE! We were splashing thru puddles and clutching our hoods under our chins to keep the water out. One last text from unewillow let us know she was in a red poncho over by the character meet and greet area. Fresh off her WAT, she was as drenched as we were but it didn't stop us from grabbing a couple of photopass pics with Chip n Dale.
BTW, they make you remove your ponchos for pictures so you don't drench the characters. Makes for a nicer pic too! After a few more moments of chillin' in the rain, we parted ways. It was so awesome to finally meet someone from the boards!! Thanks Chica!
After several attempts to see the FOTLK that day we eventually gave up and hoped to catch it another day. We never did. We swung into ITTBAB for some laughs and headed over to Africa for a two week safari. As Milli Vanilli said, "blame it on the rain" but in a good way because we walked right on the truck!! Well I never! It was great, all the animals were out and about (wont bore you with pics we all have from each and every trip RIGHT!) Except maybe one
I finally saw more than his rump! I was in heaven. We were also on the look out for the new baby elephant but alas, all we saw was his rump - sorry, no pic! hee hee
After the Safari we did the most logical thing and walked the Pangani Trail. We saw Lily chilling with Mom and Dad was lounging around in front of the big window. For some strange reason, all the meerkats were out and about and looking up at something. Usually they are sitting on the rocks doing lookout duty so this was odd.
Afterwards, we hopped on the train over to Rafiki's Planet Watch to meet Jiminy Cricket and Rafiki himself. See below for a pose he chose for us.
Once we had listened to the sounds of the rainforest and explore the rest of CS, we took the train back just in time for the rain to really start coming down again. It was around 3pm and we were starving since we skipped breakfast. I told Em we needed a couple of Yak Attacks and some grub!
There was no wait for a table and we quickly ordered our FABs and some Wok Fried Green Beans with Chili Sauce. Wowie! Extra sauce please and thank you. We also enjoyed a wonton soup each and shared the Maple Tamarind Chicken which was ok and definitely a large enough portion to split! We polished off our Yak Attacks and went back out into the rain and made a bee line for the busses. As we waded towards the exit, my buddy Fred who lives by Tampa text us to say he would be on his way in an hour or two.
Just before we left AK, we decided to pick up a couple of umbrellas because if the rain was going to continue, we would need some protection while enjoying the F&WF. I truly expected the price to astronomical but they were only $10! Bargain!
I don't think we were in the room 5 minutes before we were under the covers in those dreamy beds watching Big Fish on tv. I know I got about two thirds thru before I was out like a light. Em said she was out before that!
We got in a good hour nap before rising and taking showers. I got a call from Fred that he was downstairs by valet and I ran down (in my pjs) to help unload the car. Let's see, remember the care package he had mentioned? It contained Pinnacle vodka, Pinnacle Gummi vodka, a bottle of champagne, four bottles of red wine, a bottle of spiced rum and a gallon of homemade Apple Pie shots! I love Fred. We polished off the French red from the night before and had a couple of Apple Pie shots and a Gummi bear shot (Fred was impressed that we had gummi bears from MNSSHP) as we got ready for the night's festivities. Fred and Em were going to Epcot and explore while I attended the Party for the Senses.

Sorry for all the rain. I'm glad you had a good day anyway.
I loved Milli Vanilli. Many many moons ago my room mate and I would get home around 2:30 a.m. after work and play "Girl You Know It's True" until the sun came up. Too bad they weren't for real.

Just found your report, and I must say, I wanna go to WDW with you! Sounds like a blast. I am always up for staying up late and partying, but with 2 kids it never happens, lol.
My DH and I were at AK once when it poured and took the safari. It was the best one we ever went on, the animals were super active.
Please keep writing, I am living vicariously through you!!

OMG, the rain that day was nuts!!! We were supposed to be in AK - bummer, we could've met up - but we opted out of it. Missed our lunch at Y&Y too so I enjoyed hearing about yours!
