Tom You’ve Just Turned 30…What’s Next?...We’re Going to WDW!! (01/09-01/22) PTR - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

More great plans. I hope your time at IOA goes better than last time. I completely here you about fleas--there don't seem to be any that actually survive in my house--haven't seen any, but I have bites on my ankles. I have 4 cats and they are all treated. Maybe I'm the one bringing them in from outside?

You could be bringing them in but it could still be your cats as well. We use advantage and my cats are still bringing them up from the basement becuase the treatment for cats still takes time to kill them. We have an exterminator in twice and I am still getting bit too, I have only seen two and they were both dying I think. Everything just takes time to work completely I guess.
At least the fleas are calming down and you're on a schedule with Terminix.
A three week rental, ouch! Call me crazy but what about a beater for less money and then turn around and sell it when you get home? You wouldn't even have it long enough to pay the insurance payment!
Hope before long the "flea" problem will be totally over. Love all the plans.
I think we finally got it under control.

Yeah three weeks is a long rental but we found a good deal on a mini van.
I hope everyone is staying safe during the hurricane. Hopefully it is not as bad as they are saying it could be. This really has nothing to do with planning our trip but last night we went to the Drive – In, it was Alex’s first time there and this is how much he enjoyed it.
Sorry the picture isn't great it's from my cell. Tom and I enjoyed it though. They were showing Winnie the Pooh and The Smurfs. They had a third movie but we left after The Smurfs because we were getting tired and had an hour drive home. It was Tom’s first time there as well and he said it is definitely something we will do more again next summer since they close down after Labor Day weekend.
In my last post I promised a picture of my Disney box so here it is –
I know it is nothing fancy but it works for me. Not much new in there as I haven’t really had time to do much trip shopping. Here is Alex's Allowance Jar -
Although his allowance jar has more become a spare change holder. He doesn't quite understand the allowance concept. One big thing that got done this week for the trip is we got our rental mini-van. We are renting from Boch Rent-A-Car and got a great deal. They are a dealer as well so we will most likely be driving a 2012 Toyota Sienna fully loaded. That is a huge weight lifted.
Day Thirteen and Fourteen (1/19/12-1/20/12)
Today we have a breakfast ADR at Cape May. After that I am not sure what we will be doing. I know we will be going to a park I am just not sure which one. I will have to go back through my notes to see what we had planned. We have a dinner ADR at Chef Mickey’s that night. Since we will be so close maybe after dinner we will go over to MK for a little bit.
This morning we have a breakfast ADR at Kona Café. Then we are headed over to AK. I think this park will be Alex’s favorite. He loves watching animals so I think he will like everything he can see. That night we have a dinner ADR at 1900 Park Fare. I have heard so many good things about this dinner here so I am really looking forward to it. After that we will most likely go back to the cabin to get some rest for the next day.

So another change to the trip. Last week I started to watch tours of the Fort Wilderness Cabins on You Tube and I think once it was done my eyes were like this……I quickly realized that that is a pretty small space for us four to share for two weeks. Then I showed some pictures of the cabins to my aunt and her response was “that’s like camping”. She is not a camping woman. When I told her about them at first she was more happy about how much less expensive they were than BLT, now she was less worried about that and wanted more of a hotel resort experience. Needless to say we started to look for a new resort to stay. We all wanted to be in one space as well. For the space we wanted we looked at the deluxe villas. I wanted something well themed and recently renovated. Tom wanted something in the MK area. My aunt wanted something out of the woods (less chance of bugs) and in a resort hotel.
So the search began we looked at all the deluxe villas –
AKL – Way too far from where we wanted to be.
BLT – Too expensive and not enough theming.
BCV – Not enough theming.
BV – Once again theming.
OKW – Way too far from where we wanted.
SSR – This one we actually looked at the tree houses and seriously priced it out. I loved that they were newish (I think 2 or 3 years old) I have to say I am surprised that the nightly rate for an SSR Tree house is the same as a two bedroom there. Plus the rest of the Villas seem to jump to over $700 a night with a two bedroom. The tree houses were $595. I have a feeling this has to do with the fact that there location is soooooo out of the way. My aunt didn’t like how in the woods they were. To be honest I love them and thought they would be great except for their location. But I also came to realize it is way too much space for 4 people. (Although looking at all the Villa resorts and how often we want to travel we are seriously considering DVC.)
So what did that leave...WLV we looked at pictures Tom and Sue loved them. I was hesitant as I researched cause I could find no information on if they had ever been renovated. I know they were opened in 2000 so 11 years and no info on if they had been gone through made me nervous. I decided to contact Disney and they told me all resorts are renovated every 5 years. So that made me feel better. The deciding factor was Alex. I decided to let him watch some of the resort overviews from Allears.net. We watched the one for WLV and during it when they were showing the pool Alex pointed and said “Water”. Now he is 3 and non verbal so getting that word out of him was HUGE. After the WLV one we watched a few others and he was silent. I watched them too and actually loved WLV it had the location we wanted, the theming and not too bad on price. Plus I found out we could take a boat over to FW for some of the activities they have there. So that made the decision. I ran the numbers on my spreadsheet and was happy to find out that the most it will add to our vacation is $1800. I e-mailed my aunt the spreadsheet and she was happy with the new numbers as well.
So I made the call to Disney and we are now booked in a one bedroom villa at WLV w/ free dining (upgraded to the Deluxe) and 10 day tickets w/park hoppers. (We are actually going to upgrade to AP's at the first park we go to so I may drop the park hoppers. Not sure if it makes a difference the price you pay.) We would like to have a Patio but I am not sure when I can request that. (A balcony with Alex and how daring he is makes us nervous.)
I am pretty sure now that no more location changes will be made. Now I am just waiting to see when Disney will release AP rates for 2012 cause if they have a good one it would be a better discount than free dining even though we would get AP’s and still get the DxDP.
That is it for now I will be back soon with our Day Fifteen and Sixteen Plans.
