Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

All caught up! So the whole time your at Disney, I'll be in the hospital. I know it's for a good reason, but still. I'll be thinking of you and all the fun you're having while I'm drugged up.

We flew with Dylan at 20 months and he was on my lap. I think I just brought lots of snacks and little toys to occupy him. It always seems like there are a lot of kids on the flight going to/from MCO so most people should be understanding. Dylan's new love is watching MMCH on my ipod touch - we even use it in church now!

And thanks for the heads up on Grey's! I that show! I'll set my DVR too so I can watch it when I get home and am up at night.

I'm big on the DVD player too, I know its a lot to pack in a carry on but wow, if it can help, We use a MP4 player now that Lily is older but I'd practice now with headphones. the DVD player was invaluable when going anywhere with a baby. She loved Nemo at that age.

If your daughter is starting to walk, maybe she'll want to walk around WDW? When Jimmy was just starting, I got him this cute little doggie backpack (Target). The tail was a "leash" (I hate to use that term). He could wander on his own, but I still had a grip on him. And he loved the doggie so much that he often wore it on the front, so he could hug it.

Just a thought...

Just a thought, I travelled with my son for the first time when he was 2.5, and I bought a seat for him, but we waited until the VERY last minute to get on the plane, so that he could run around until the VERY last second and not have to sit in his seat while everyone else boarded. Instead of getting on first and prolonging the agony.

Can't wait to see all the great pics of your adorable girl.

Oh and I would definitely go with a DVD player since she is too young for crayons, stickers and other little toy type things.
Thanks for the great idea, but since we're flying Southwest and don't have assigned seats, we need to get on the plane as early as we can so we have the chance to all sit together. However, it would work out perfectly if we were flying another airline. And you're right about her being too young for crayons. At first I was wondering why she had grasped the whole coloring thing yet, but I realized that she wasn't the only one with this issue in her daycare class...apparently they all like to try and eat them.

Whenever Sam's feet got anywhere close to the seat in front of us, I was pulling them back! I certainly wouldn't want my seat kicked so I am not going to let my child do it either! I am trying to remember what I took when Sam was 18 months, I know we took the dvd player, crayons and coloring books which were new to him but helped for a bit, a few books, some new cars that I had bought and snuck in his bags for surprise plus I brought some of his fave snacks in case he didn't like the plane snacks.
I know!!! I think they would have had to get the air marshall involved if someone would say that to me. To say someone is a bad mother because she can't get her child to stop crying on an airplane is ridiculous...it might have been ear pain or something causing him to cry. As for the seat kicking, I wholeheartedly agree with you on that one. I can't stand having my seat kicked and I can't stand it even more when the parent doesn't say anything about it. Hope's feet will be as far away from that seat as I can possibly make them.

I also wrapped "old" toys and they would unwrap them and it was like a "brand new" toy for them!!!!
Great plans!! I'm getting great at keeping secrets so your secret is safe with me
Thanks! I hope you're right. Like I said, I'm not too worried about the flight to Orlando because I think she will conk out right after she eats her breakfast, it's the flight home where she'll probably have energy to burn. We do the "old" toy thing at home sometimes. It's amazing how excited she gets over something she's already played with before.

It's a little funny because when I had Hope it was the day of the season finale of Grey's where George died. I had set my DVR because I wasn't sure how I was going to be feeling that night. Well I was exhausted, but I was too excited to fall asleep (the whole night actually), and my nurse ended up coming into the room and offering to take her to the nursery while Chad and I got some alone time to watch the finale. She even left me a box of kleenex just in case it was going to be a tear jerker. That night was the only night I kept her in the nursery, but it was well worth it.

I told my mom about the DVD player this morning and she's going to see how big it really is. But you brought up a good point. You can't watch the DVD without headphones right? Hope's never worn headphones before so I wonder how that would go over.

Our last flight home from Disney was in the afternoon and Josie was good and quite but kept swinging her legs, which would hit the seat in front of her. I tried over and over to keep them still. It was a 2 hr chore. So at the end of the flight the woman in front of her turned and said what a well behaved child I had................I said oh man, I am so sorry about her hitting your seat, she said she would rather have a few small kicks on the back of her seat than a crying kid anyday. I do believe that to be true actually.
I also wouldn't worry about headphones for your daaughter with the DVD player. The plane is so noisy and you can turn that to a decent volume where only you and her would hear it. We had a small sony DVD player (pink of course), it was nice because the screen swiveled all the way around, so she couldn't hit the buttons and mess it up. We also would use this in our room sometimes as well. But again, if you are worried about it being to big, just use the I touch or Iphone.

Hi Melissa, just got all caught up on your TR. Congrats on the free tickets and on getting BCV. I want to stay at BC so badly someday!

I'm a Baltimore girl too - I was born in Towson and my entire extended family on both my Mom's and Dad's side live in Maryland. I even have family in Bel Air, where you are! I didn't grow up in Maryland (we moved to Chicago when I was 2) so as a child, we traveled to Baltimore every year to visit our grandparents in Towson. I was raised from an early age to appreciate East Coast seafood! My grandmother made the best crab cakes ever! I'm sad to hear that Baltimore is becoming so crime-ridden. I loved that whole Inner Harbor area.

As for the plane ride, my DD was 22 months the first time we flew with her and we bought her her own seat. It kept her much more occupied. She would NOT have done well sitting on my lap - she would have been way too antsy. I remember bringing lots of small toys for her to play with on the tray and crayons and coloring books plus some picture books for her to look at or that I could read to her during the flight. I had her diaper bag and also carried a backpack for her with all of her toys and books in it.

Good luck and can't wait to read more about your trip!

It's funny how you think your child is misbehaving, when in fact, the people around you think they are being just fine. It was like that on our last trip to Disney on our way to pick up the cruise ship. Hope was getting really antsy on the bus and as much as I tried to calm her down it just wasn't working. The parents around me told me not to worry because we've all been there and it made me feel a lot better. A couple of them even saw me on the ship later in the trip and ask how she was doing.

I'm definitely leaning more towards that DVD player, though it's not pink, but since I don't have the Itouch or Iphone, that will be my only option for entertainment.

and to my report! It's nice to meet another Maryland girl, and yes, it is sad that Baltimore is becoming a not-so-nice place to live. We go to Towson a lot, and Bel Air is growing bigger and bigger every day...something I'm not thrilled about because the traffic is horrendous! Glad to hear you can still appreciate out outstanding seafood even though you don't live here anymore. It's funny because when I see Maryland crab cakes on the menu in other states, I'm like, , not giong to order them...just not the same.

I think if Hope was the age your DD was when she flew I would definitely have bought her a seat. I can't imagine how tall she's going to be then if she's 32 inches now.

Too funny about having Hope for the finale of Grey's and that being the only night she was in the nursery. We had Dylan sent to the nursery every night.

And I agree about not worrying too much about the headphones. When Dylan was 20 months we played the DVD player without headphones on the plane and just kept the volume low - I doubt anyone ever heard it. I did buy 'kids' headphone for him, but he wouldn't wear them. He does now with the itouch though, but I think that's because I can reason with him more now that he understands stuff better.

I can't believe how I forgot about this story..................my hubs and I joke about it ALL the time.
Speaking of the headphones made me remember,
Going back to the airport on DME last Dec, Josie was on my lap watching an episode of Little Einsteins on the Iphone. Now granted the DME is not as nosiy as an airplane can be and dosen't drown out most noises, but we had the phone at a really low volume that was in no way offensive to other passengers. Well this woman sitting behind us said " What is that? I hear an annoying little kids voice" OMG, really you witch?? You are lucky my DD was sitting on me, otherwise I would have stood up and got a little Jersey on her you know what.
Again, people, would you rather have a screaming crying kid OR the sound of sweet Annie singing with her friends????

What's that "Golden Rule" again.............don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all..................

I finished your last TR (which I really enjoyed!!) and I can really see how much Hope has grown, especially in your sig pic (which is adorable!). My DD, Lexi, turned 3 this summer and I can't believe how time flies. I can't wait to read about Hope's second visit to WDW and all of the reactions she will have now that she is a little older.

Melissa, I had a reply typed out and it dissappeared. Instead of crayons & color
Wonder markers for Skyler(which he still likes to eat or likes to color on the walls with) we havea small
travel sizeMagnadoodle for Skyler. Also his play cell phone(Handy Manny is very faint noise wise which willbe perfecton the plane) and hisplay laptop(loves the thing). Mind you Skyler & I haven't flown on a plane since he was still under a year old, but books, rattles, and other small toys have helped me keep my little Mr. on the Go well entertained in my lap on planes. Now I will say we did once fly during the Super Bowl (Pats vs. Giants) on Jetblue and everyone was so tuned into the Super bowl and didn't hear Skyler as miserable as can be because of severe ear pressure. The Flight Attendants were constantly checking on us and doing everything to help me soothe him.

Instead of me borrowing DSil's portable DVD player, I am using Erick's iPod for movies or Playhouse Disney Shows for Skyler (and I found some
halloween episodes for a buck or two on iTunes) instea of lugging the DVDs.

Hopefully you don't run into anything like a long flight delay like my dad did with my brother because the President(President Clinton at the time) was traveling tonthe same destination
As thy were and stuck on the tarmack in their depature city for 3-4 hours. I can tell you my brother was always very well behaved and still is on planes and well entertained with just a few pieces of train tracks and a few trains, but the only person he ever annoyed on a plane was Bob Vila by dumping ice on him for rude remarks he made about my brother. Everyone else loved him helping the flight attendants passing out ice just to use up his energy. Tons of pixies you don't get Bob Vila next toyou or someone who doesn't like children.

And I too like you worry about Skyler kicking the seat in front of him. If he does, I will be thr first to threaten him he's going in the overhead compartment(works like a charm).

That's exactly right. I don't have a really high tolerance for annoying kids, but even I'm understanding on a flight. My ears are bad enough, theirs are fractions of the size of an adult ear. If I could get away with it, I'd scream and cry too. People in general are really understanding, with the exception of the few idiots who can't realize what's going on - even though in general, they're the same people who answer their cell phone in a movie theater

I vote for DVD totally, it its so nice. They make so many shows where you get several episodes on them. That makes it very nice. You guys are going to have so much fun, I also love the color wonder stuff, non toxic and no mess. I doubt she will even be able to kick the seat in front of her very hard!
