Trip Report - Jan 14-22 Cruise/WDW: A Disney Trip Full of Hope! COMPLETED!! 7/15 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Congrats on the girls trip!! I've been trying to plan one of those for my mom, dd and I for over a year now. We have DVC points that we banked from last year, so we have to use them or we lose them. Hopefully a girls trip will be in our future too.

Losing those points is incentive enough for me! If it wasn't for the DVC I wouldn't be going on half of the trips that I go on...it's definitely worth the every penny I spent.

I've only stayed at YC, so I'm excited to stay on the other side. We're going to be able to use the pool on our arrival day as well, so we're excited about our first dip in Stormalong Bay! Plus, I can grab a milkshake from Beaches & Cream whenever I want. The only thing I was concerned about was how far away the villas are from the rest of the resort...like the marketplace.
We woke up bright and early today since we had to be off the boat by 9:15am in order to catch the bus to our resort no later than 9:30am…remember that...no later than 9:30am!!! Anyway, we decided to steal food from the buffet the morning before and eat it in our room instead of trying to make it to breakfast at our given time. They wanted us seated and eating at 7:15am. No thank you, I had to get up early enough, don’t make it any worse!
We left the room, leaving our luggage there to go check out our photos from the night before and look for this wonderful cast member that we had met during our trip. While we were looking at the pictures I noticed one of Hope’s feet were missing a brand new shoe. Chad was carrying her and I asked him if he had noticed anything falling off of her foot. Obviously this was an extremely stupid question because if he had he would have stopped to pick it up right away.
I immediately left them where they were and re-traced our steps, as I was going up the stairs to walk down our hallway, a couple asked me if I was looking for a shoe. I said , and they told me that a woman cleaning the hallway found it and had it. Looking back, I should have asked what the woman looked like or where her exact location was, because after walking up and down that hallway about 20 times I never found her. I think I asked every stateroom attendant I could find where I could locate a woman who was said to be cleaning the hallway, but no one could help me…it was like she was some imaginary person!
I finally made it down to guest services and they told me that if something was found during debarkation day, it would be located off of the ship where the luggage pick up was. By this time I was so upset. Baby shoes are not cheap, and she had only worn them for like 5 minutes!!! We went back to the room and got our luggage to head off the ship. By this time it was 9:10am. So much for trying to meet up with our favorite cast member, we needed to get off the ship and on the bus.
I made it down to the lost and found and there was still no sign of the shoe. The woman working the desk called guest services on the ship again, but nothing. I had to fill out a form so that they could send it to me, but to this day, I have still not gotten that shoe back. Who is this woman and what does she want with my child’s shoe???
By now we were all getting antsy because it was 9:25am and we still needed to go through customs. For some reason we had luck on our side and we sailed through the line, making it on the bus a little after 9:30am…they held it for us, which I was not expecting.
We were now on our way to The Boardwalk, and I can honestly say I wasn’t in the best of moods. It had kind of put a damper on my morning because I didn’t get to really say “good-bye” to the ship like I usually do. I know that sounds a little cheesy, but you know when you’re leaving the MK, you look at the castle one more time to take it all in? I didn’t get to do that, plus I was still upset that I was now down a good pair of baby shoes.
We pulled up to The Boardwalk a little after 11am and were very excited to check in.
While I was doing that, everyone hung out in the lobby and let Hope explore a little bit.
Our room wasn’t ready, so we decided to walk around the boardwalk a little bit. It was really windy and cool on the water, but we made the best of it. This hotel was just beautiful. I loved walking around outside and just taking in the atmosphere of this place.
My mom and I had reservations for afternoon tea at the Garden View Lounge at 2pm, so we needed to leave around 1pm to make it over there on time. The guys would be watching Hope again, and getting the luggage to our room when it was ready. This is a mother/daughter tradition of ours, and I’m hoping to take my little girl with us one day. I just having tea with my mom.
We got to the Grand Floridian a little early so we just walked around a bit.
There were a couple of weddings going on like there usually are, so we kept trying to spy on the brides. We also came upon the mysterious “poodle lady” that’s been mentioned on these boards.
For the life of me I have no idea what she has in her bag, but I snapped a picture of her. I felt like I was on a stake out!
It was finally time for tea!
We were seated, and we got our usual…a pot of the Garden View Tea and the Buckingham Palace. The first course is a plate of tea sandwiches…cucumber, egg, chicken, shrimp, pear and an onion tart. All of these are very good, but for some reason I didn’t like the taste of the chicken sandwich. It tasted kind of sand papery.
While we were waiting for our next course, my mom got all excited and told me to turn around since I had my back to the windows. The glass carriage was going by to pick up one of the bride’s we had seen in the lobby…yes, I was extremely jealous!
Up next was the second course, a scone with jelly and Devonshire cream and a raspberry tart. This is just heaven….pure heaven.
The last course is the dessert. You get to pick two desserts of the cart or a bowl of the dessert trifle. We always seem to pick two desserts. I picked the fruit tart and chocolate éclair, and my mom picked the éclair and a chocolate covered strawberry…just delicious.
It’s always such a nice and relaxing time when we go there, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts.
As we were getting ready to leave we got a call saying that our room was ready, so we were on our way back to the Boardwalk to see our fabulous room…or so we thought.
Bummer about the shoe- Between all my kids- I've lost many a baby shoe; and it's always the favorite, barely worn shoes that go missing. Hurry back with more even though it sounds like something negative may be in store......
I didn't think the Marketplace was that far from where our villa was located. And we discovered a 'back way' to go out of the room to get to the path that leads you to the IG.
The tea sounds great! I can't wait to go there again in August. I'm not looking forward to the next installment though - doesn't sound promising.
Stefanie and I both hate losing things, and when we do, it really does put a damper on the day. So sorry about the lost shoe! The tea looks lovely. But the title for the next segment sounds ominous.
Sorry about the missing shoe. Maybe it will soon magically turn up (before she outgrows it). I your pictures of tea w/your Mom! I know my Mom would love doing that too.....now, if I could just get her to WDW!! How spotting the "poodle" lady!!! Is it stuffed teddy bears in her bag???? Can't wait to read more!
