The First Thanksgiving (some 400 years later) TR - COMPLETE!! 3/7 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh Melissa, I agree with you on your list of changes that make you sad I can't believe that they are not putting up the lights in Epcot. This will be my first year since 2002 that I won't be at WDW during the holiday season and maybe it's a good thing because it sounds like they're just not putting up the decorations like they use to. I chose to go the last week of January to avoid the crowds. I'm really looking forward to hearing about your good times with Bran and Pom!!!
Lights of Winter did make Epcot even more Christmas-y. I'm sad they're gone too.
Sad about BI and the TTA.
Okay, now we're all sad about all those changes. Why didn't they ask us first? Really!
Won't be long now Melissa! Have a great Thanksgiving and Anniversary too!

I am totally with you on the things you will miss.
The Lights of Wonder being obsolete, come on. You would think there is updated technology that Disney can definitely afford to get. Really!!!
I didn't realize BI didn't just do Beatles stuff. My dad watched them in Sept and I caught one song which was a Beatles song, so I didn't know that.
We got to hear the TTA for the last time before the change in September. I don't know why they have to go and mess with a good thing. Mr. Tom Morrow was my favorite quote.
Hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving in the World.
Can't wait to hear about it when you get back.

Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow....we'll miss you as well. And our whole metroliner tour. It's just pure sadness that Mickey had to go and screw with the TTA audio. No more forward facing tentacles, no more "Now approaching... Mickey's Star Traders"... Excuse me while I go cry in the corner for a minute....I'm still hoping they will change it back. COMPLAIN PEOPLE! COMPLAIN!!!!
ok I think this is really on temporary, because they are/were under construction now when we were there, the announcer said please pardon our appearance
so maybe someone who went would notice if it changed back??
I also very much DISLIKED ( YEAH HATED) THE new narraration
I am with you on all of the changes (or should we say deletions) that are being made to "our world"!
Let me just warn you....the TTA....Oh gosh, it is just so bad! I wanted to cry when I heard the new version! It just took away from the entire attraction!
We all really need to write to Disney and express our anger, sadness and just being totally disappointed by these changes!
Great to see a PTR started. I always laugh at the fun you four get into.
Thanks!! Making people laugh makes me smile Even if sometimes I make them laugh at me and not with me It's all good!

I know, it is sad... I'm just hoping they haven't cut back too much on decor. I bet the end of January is a fantastic time to go, crowd wise

Yeah, I think Brandi said it earlier, that they suck you in with a Beatles song in the beginning and then play all that other junk (NOT that the music from the 60's was junk....HELLO, WHO fan here, but I think I'd die if they did some Who, especially with the way they sound right now.)

I hope so Janice! I will definitely be on the lookout for something that says temporary since SM is officially reopened.

I know! I listened to it on a podcast back a few weeks ago and was just devasted I'm thinking we might need to voice our opinion for sure!
So, we just had our anniversary yesterday and quite a weekend of fun to go with it. I'm at work today... BOO HISS! Brandi, I know you're off ALL WEEK and I'm not cursing you under my breath at all...nope...nu-uh.... Andy uploaded our pictures from ROGER DALTREY this morning so I will post those when I get home today. I still can't believe I saw him up close! What a great show!!!!!
Hey...Happy Anniversary!!! We actually spent our anniversary on Saturday at a wedding of a friend of mine. Guess I'll never forget her anniversary. Craig kept telling me for our anniversary he was taking me to a big fancy party with great food, music and dancing! Nothing's too good for me apparently.
SOooooo.....here's how I've kept myself occupied while the last few days before the trip go by.......
For our anniversary Andy took me uptown Charlotte... we stayed at the Dunhill Hotel, which is a very old, historic hotel. We stayed there back about 3 years ago for Valentine's Day and the bartender gave us a tour of the penthouse where some random fellow stayed...I forget his name now....some famous guy....Sir Paul something While we didn't stay in Sir Paul's penthouse we did have a very nice room and complimentary breakfast in their restaurant which was tasty the next morning. For dinner though, we went to the Chima's Brazillian steakhouse. We went to a place much like this in Orlando with the Bakers on our Memorial Day trip earlier this year. It was verrrrrrry good as was Chima's. Texas de Brazil had a better cheese and salad and soup bar Pom. No lobster bisque at Chima So we enjoyed a nice long meal with the gauchos bringing us meat around on skewers...and after creating a little meat baby (nothing compared to our Texas de Brazil baby....we learned from our past mistakes), but afterwards we headed back to prepare for the long day ahead. Too bad it was raining and cooooold for us to stand outside in line for a general admission show. But if meant being front and center for Roger Daltrey, we were doing it! And we did. 5 hours. Yes we're crazy and we don't give a rats fanny. Here's pics from the evening...
waiting in the cold and rain...
The case back there made my heart skip a beat....and of course I had to get a shot of Rog's wrapped mic!
Who the * are you?
It ain't a concert without a little Roger chest
I don't care it's blurry...he was swinging the mic. Most of my pics were crap compared to what I normally take, but my hands were shaking so bad the majority of the show I couldn't do much...at one point I realized I had a death grip on the railing in front of me
Yes the second one is blurry, but again, who cares...it's Roger's fabulous grin!
After the show we stood around for a bit and Andy told one of the roadies it was our anniversary and asked if we could get a setlist. We didn't get any old setlist...we got the one that was for Roger! Whoohoo!! He even spilled some of his tea on it !!
I took this crappy pic with my iPhone to upload to FB last night in the car on the way home..
SOOOO....I'm still amazed that I was that close to him....to see him like that. After watching so many live shows on DVDs and TV it just seemed so surreal. And there was some definite hinting towards another Who tour and we'll be there. Andy says we're going go all out for it, too!! Whoohoo!!
Now, I'm beginning to realize how much I have to do before tomorrow night I just washed the last load of clothes and need to go put them in to dry. Then it's time to clean up the house so Andy's aunt and uncle won't find a messy house when they come check on the cats. Then it's time to start packing !
I checked us online earlier today...first time we've done that, so we'll see how it goes. Andy faxed our room request, so that's done.
Tomorrow the kids come to school till 11, then we have crappy professional development till 4. But hopefully we'll get out earlier. I have to make a Target run and then stop by the bank to cash my supplement check to take with us. Then it's back here for last minute packing and hitting the road. Thanks for taking part in this PTR journey. There will be much more to come!! I'm sure I'll have some live updates and photos on FB but I'll tell the whole story here when we return.
