Lies and Deceit - It's What This Trip Was Built On (A CLT Report) - UPDATED 3/9 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OMG, sock granades, upgrades, no video, paintbrushes on TSI, friends and laughter! You know, this would make a great movie!! Since you live in CA don't you have some contacts in the entertainment industry???
Ok Karen....I think I need to start traveling with you. Private planes, DME bus all to yourself...and you are a giver...I am sure you made Calder's day )
Whiskey-tango-foxtrot. I'm totally stealing that one.
I'm gonna start calling you a celebutante, what with all the VIP treatmeant you receive!
I can't believe people would get freaked out by a pair of socks. I've seen folks doing everything besides getting a bikini wax in airport bathrooms - socks are nothin'!
What a wonderful morning at the MK. The weather did indeedy look beautiful. I really am going to have to adventure back to Tom Sawyer's Island one of these days. Way to go to Calder for finding the paintbrush.
Oh, and this?

Ok the sock grenade had me rolling. After your personal flight into MCO, it was only right for you to have a DME bus to yourself as well. What a wonderful day spent in MK with the Two Chips and a Dip. Looking forward to more!!!
Nice way to start a Monday morning - with a Karen TR update! I didn't know about the private DME bus - you really are a celebrity! I'm proud of your flexibility with Calder. Although I know you have a soft spot for young boys (OMG - that doesn't sound good does it ), I meant for your best friends son (that almost sounds worse ). You all know what I mean. Can't wait for another update.

Very, very good updates Karen! I'm so glad you've posted them!! I laughed reading about your stall escapades. The nerve of those women to not send the socks back under the door! harumph!
congrats you guys on the updage to concierge! I believe since it happened to us also, but at the Poly, it's so much easier to upgrade someone who's only there for a night than it is someone who is there longer! Either way, it's a great feeling, isn't it?
I want you to travel with us in June. Maybe you can get us all into the first class section of the plane!
More please!!(same goes for you Eileen and Sharon!!! )

Yeppers! I learned something about this as we checked in to the Wilderness Lodge -- I'll post about that once Karen gets "there"...
I will add my POV tonight (when I have access to my notes and my pictures!)
'specially as I cannot remember off-hand what Karen is referring to with her "soft ball pitch" of a fun detail that I guess *I'm* to write about. Sheesh... where's my notebook?!
I do remember the "duck butt" lady with the coffee mug, but I'll wait to snark on that until I get everything else together.
Eileen
Day 0, Part 3(Seriously. This is getting ridiculous. Even I want me to get there already, and I'm writing the bloody thing.)
And you make fun of ME for making so many "parts" to my WDW days...

Beyond the HUGE guffaw that I only barely smothered at work at the WTFoxtrot quip, the rest of this plane story has given me the giggles today. There's nothing that can make Karen happier than having other people recognize and VERBALIZE her superiority in front of the unwashed masses. Heeee! Such delight!

You never told me this story! FAB-u-lous! (Reminds me of the time I was standing in the lobby of a famous and very chi-chi theatre and talking to the Creative Director of the Performing Arts Center with a friend. After a lovely conversation, I pulled my hand out of my pocket to shake the Director's hand and a tampon came out of my pocket with it, skittered across the parquet floor and came to a halt against the marble walls. It would've been survivable if my friend hadn't yelled "GRENADE" and pretended to throw herself onto it...)

As if!! "Where you at" is a personal pet peeve of mine. As a card-carrying member of The Grammacracy, you'll never hear me saying "Where you at."

Eileen: "No problem! {Giggle, giggle.} I can wait here {Spontaneous laughter} Take your time {Wild guffaw}"
Karen: "Seriously, Eileen, knock it off with the cocktails, it's not even eight AM. It's embarassing."
Eileen: "No. No. No. I was going to wait..." {giggle} "until..." {snort} "you got here..." {giggle.} We got upgraded to CONCIERGE!"
Karen: "SHUT UPPPPP!"
Seriously, if she'd been standing in front of me, she would've pushed me back a few feet like Elaine Benes. And I soooo wanted to let her find out for herself -- or... at least to take her into the elevator and put my little card (albeit, my blue card) in the slot and press a Concierge floor ... and just let her figure it out. But... blast it... I can't keep a secret (as you all know), so I just blabbed it all out on the phone!

What Karen isn't telling you is that she was being all whiney and cranky about the lost luggage and had been pouting and complaining and dragging her feet. I told her to suck it up and just give them a description of the bags and get on a danged bus already. (I wasn't very patient and any delay on seeing my gal pal was just KILLING me....)

I think I stood up and did a little dance for about 6 DME buses that pulled up in that time frame. When it wasn't *Karen's bus, I'd sit back down again, put my head in my hands and pout. The whole joint thought I was a nut...

Your wish is my command!
My responses are getting ridiculously long here and I'd planned on TRing this morning as part of the Two Chips TR... so... I think I'll stop now while a few of you are still awake...
Eileen
Can you get any better? Private plane, private DME, empty middle seat (bty, I always prefer the aisle seat, because 1 coffee (or drink) = gazillion trips to bathroom!), and resort upgrade. OMG!
This is the first time I've heard of the hidden paint brush. They hide it anywhere on the island?
I'll be sure to look while I'm there.
