The Walt Disney World/Disneyland Double Dip Trip! - UPDATED 7/11 w/FINAL THOUGHTS - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

After saying goodbye to DB and his family, we decided to head to MGM. When we arrived, we again found big crowds. I checked to see if perhaps FPs were left for TOT or RNRC, but no joy there.
We were getting hungry, so we decided to grab dinner. I’m not really a fan of the counter service places at MGM, but I do enjoy the Studio Catering Co. We headed to the back of the park and were happy to see that it wasn’t busy. Of course, when LMASS (hi Eileen ) let out, it got busy in a hurry, so at least we had good timing here. I forget what DM & DF had, but I had the pulled pork sandwich.
I knew the Backlot Tour usually had a short wait, so we headed there after our dinner. I told you about the crowds at the MK, and I was prepared for that, but I must admit that I was shocked with the wait at the Backlot Tour. 45 minutes! I can’t imagine waiting for that for 45 minutes. Thinking back, I suspect the reason for the long line was that LMASS letting out had dumped a huge crowd into the back section of the park, and many of them just headed to the next closest attraction.
We decided to see what the line was like at the GMR, and were relieved to find it only 30 minutes, which we decided to do. I managed to get a pretty good picture of Cyd Charisse doing her best impression of a bull.
That’s hot!
We had the cowboy version this time, which I prefer. I was happy to get a few good pictures.
This is my favorite shot
When we got to the Tarzan section, I recognized that there was a problem. Tarzan wasn’t swinging back and forth on his vine. We sat for a minute, then Tarzan started swinging, but we didn’t move. I snapped a shot of Tarzan when he swung by.
We didn’t move, and then Tarzan went by again. I snapped another picture. Then I decided it would be funny to take a shot every time he went by. I can tell you that I took 27 shots just like this before we finally started moving again. It was pretty funny at the time (don’t worry, I’m not going to post all 27). I know that section by heart now. Hey, does anyone know what “ungowa” means? And Jane pronounces “Tarzan” “Tarzin.” Also, Cheetah had some kind of vine or something hanging from her … you know, with my reputation on this board for a tail fetish, I’m not going to finish that sentence.
DM and I were glad there wasn’t a song in this part, to give DF something else to sing. Once we started up, we didn’t stop again (well we did, but it was because of scheduled scene stops, not ride malfunctions).
This is like the third time in the past year I’ve been on this ride and it broke down. Something tells me it’s going to be going down for refurbishment soon.
Once we got out, I checked the tip board. TOT & RNRC were both at 70 minutes. We thought about Fantasmic!, but it was 90 minutes away, and we wanted to see it on a warmer night. So we called it an early night. We were hitting Epcot the next day, so with our early night, it’d be easy to make park opening and cover everything in Future World before lunch. Or so we thought (dun dun DUUUNNNNN).

Great update Sharon!! At least if the ride had to stop a man in a loincloth is not too bad on the eyes!!! Your pulled pork looked so yummy!! Can't wait for more!!
Registered Message Board Members save 30% off PassPorter guidebooks! When you register you'll have access to a discount coupon good for 30% off the list price of PassPorter books in our online store.
Love the update! I was stopped at that exact same spot in GMR on MLK day. We counted Tarzan swinging back and forth 10 times. So I know what you mean about Jane's accent.
This is where having a real live CM helps. We had a good one who ad-libbed a bit. I can't remember what trivia he gave us, but it was something I didn't know about Tarzan. I posted it in my TR, and may have to go jog my memory.
I'm all shiny and happy over the pictures from my beloved Great Movie Ride! I'd totally be OK with 26 more pictures from your scenic stop on the Tarzan set too. I can picture you taking these shots now that I've toured with you. Y'all, Sharon is a PRO! She barely looks up, stops talking or walking; just casually lifts the camera and snaps away. Love it!

OMG - you so totally cracked me up many, many times with the last two updates. Your nieces and their "love ya, Auntie" pose, your dad with his singing (and sleeping) in the shows), and the 27 shots of Tar-zin...
Best of all was Cheetah and her whoo-hah vine! That got a big guffaw outta me!
Boy do I hope you eventually get a pic of you with the Evil Stepfamily before the end of your trip! ( you comment to Lady Tremaine!)
Just got caught back up with your report. Sounds like a fun time despite the crowds and wait times. We thought about going that weekend ourselves but from the sounds of the wait times, I am glad in a way that we didn't for a short trip.
Oh Sharon, I hope the crowds getting better for you and your family!!! It's so frustrating when you're at the Happiest Place on Earth and the wait times make you unhappy! Your pulled pork sandwich looked delicious. You got some great pics from the GMR - thanks for sharing. Hope your morning at Epcot was fun!
