Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Sounds like a fun day, besides the loudmouth, drunken Philadelphians. We all don't act like that. Honest. Really.

I'm pretty sure it's only the 17 - 19 year olds from Philly that act like that!! Oh I forgot to talk about how they kept talking how they'd done time and the one guy (with the magnum of Corona) was looking at serious time and how they knew guys in prison.... They were total catches!

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... Day Six - Updated June 30

Day Six - Friday, June 23 - Thanks to you two I have to have a fear!

Today Tommy and Karen offered to go with us to Kitty Hawk to visit the Wright Brother's Memorial and then to take us out to lunch. We of course agreed! Who can turn down a free meal??? Lori and a terrible migraine this morning so she and Kevin and the baby stayed at the house and rested.

We got a jump on T & K, mainly b/c we didn't want to be stuck behind the older folk for the hour long drive. We arrived a few minutes before they did and Matt had to make a restroom trip quick. So he and Dawn went to locate those while Andy and I toured through the Museum area. I already made it clear that "hey it's cool I can see that monument from here, and since I can see it from here, there's no way I'm walking all the way up that hill in the blistering heat to see it up close..." Luckily everyone else agreed.

Here are some pictures from this part of the museum. It was broken up into two different buildings:

A reproduction of the 1902 glider..

Some information on said glider..

is he trying to be cool??

We're lined up like a bad Cingular commercial

The monument.... From a distance of course!

The first large boulder is where the brothers took off from....each little boulder after that (there are 4) mark how far each flight went. The first two only lasted 12 seconds, I can't remember the 3rd, and the 4th, the furtherest, went for 59 seconds.
The rail on the ground is what they used to push the glider on to get it going.

After walking around on the grounds we went to the other museum building. It was here that my husband lost his mind

He's going to work on these photos in photoshop to get rid of the red parts of his shirt that you can see to make these even funnier

As if this one wasn't silly enough..........

He moved on to the smaller one

After some more learning we headed out to get some lunch. We went the Outer Banks Brewing Company. Fantastic food! We shared the calamari appetizer and I swear, it was the most tender calamari I have ever had! Delicious! I had the crab cake sandwich (but just ate the crab cake... I didn't want to mask the taste with all the bread, lettuce, and tomato ) It was a wonderful crab cake....lots of lump meat, not just stuffing... I was determined to eat every last bite...and I did This was a really neat place b/c they had a really cool stage set up on the lower level. Dh got a kick out of that and we read the upcoming shows they had listed. The upper level overlooked the floor and the stage on the lower level. I told Andy he needed to plan like a 2 week tour up and down the outer banks, I would totally be up for that!

After our lunch we wanted to go back to Rundown so Andy and his dad could get a shirt. Of course while we were there we had to have a drink....another shark attack please!

back at the rundown...up on the deck

Re: The Outer Banks - revisited... Day Six - Updated June 30

After our quick stop at the Rundown we (Me and Andy) wanted to stop at the Bodie Island Lighthouse on our way back so Matt and Dawn rode with T & K back to the house. Andy and I toured through the lightkeeper's house and educated ourselves some more. You can guess why it has the name it does.... b/c of all the shipwrecks in the past and all the "bodies" that washed up on the shores.

While in the giftshop I bought a great cookbook with recipes from all the restaurants on the islands. We're going to try one a week this summer

After checking out the lighthouse info I wanted to go across to the beach to find the Laura A. Barnes shipwreck. I don't know too much about it, I think it crashed in the early 1900's ...maybe closer to the mid 1900's... I can't remember... Anyhoo it wrecked and it was found and moved to this spot on the beach. It looks like they just left it so it would look like it would if it had really crashed here. All that remains are some planks, but it was really neat to see. And you had to work for it. You had to climb up a steep dune in the burning hot sand. But I was glad I got to see it!

Here are some pics from the lighthouse and the shipwreck..

The clouds today were amazing!

This one is closed at the moment b/c a couple of years ago a piece of iron from the top fell down the stairwell. You could never climb it b/c the stairs were in such disrepair so they would open the doors to the bottom so you could look up. But when the pieces fell, the closed it completely. I read that plans have been put in place to refurbish it and hopefully this will happen and be ready by 2008.

Some facts about the Bodie Light

Since it's closed I took pictures of the pictures that show you the view from the top

From the east and south

From the west and north

And from the very top

The remains of the Laura A. Barnes (note the blue jeans...to cover up the massive amount of skeeter bites!)

Okay so I realized after the fact I look like I'm flipping a bird! I used the self timer and had to run my little self back on that hot sinking sand in time!

Andy noticed a plank that still had white paint chipping off of it...

I just wanted to get in that fence and dig a little to see what was buried underneath...b/c you know there's stuff under the sand!

On our way back to the car we walked past a group holding their wedding rehearsal...what a beautiful place to get married..and the next day we wondered about them...they had a beautiful day for a wedding.

Coming up: Wow, this is what it's like on a Saturday??

Oh, man, that second pic of Andy at the WB museum! It already looks like he has a big head. When he photoshops out all the red, he will look like a big ol' bobblehead! Funny stuff!

I need to make it to OBX. Closest I've come in my 41 years is Cape Lookout.

I'm loving this report - you're visiting so many fasincating places and I love the lighthouses, they're always the first thing I think of when I think of the coastline.
