As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Heading West to the \"Original\": Day 4, Part 2: I Can\'t Say I Told You So
[b]Day 4, Part 2: I Can’t Say “I Told you So”
Since we are taking time and just enjoying what DL has to offer, we spend a lot of time in the shops. Judy is looking for a specific princess item for her mom, along with some other need to have items for other members of the family. It is at this point I decide to make a break for it to have some alone time in the park. I pull Chuck aside in one of the shops and tell him to meet me at the mosaics by It’s a Small World at 2:30PM. It’s now 1:45PM so I have 45 minutes to have my own little form of Disney magic.
I head off into Fantasyland with $10 in my pocket (Chuck has the bag at this time) and feel a little sense of freedom. I do not have my camera with me, which I regret because this would have been the opportunity to get some cool pictures without feeling like everyone is waiting on me. But I digress….
I literally just took my time and wandered around taking in all the differences between DL and WDW. My time goes by way too quickly. I do not ride anything as the wait times were too long for my short escape but I have to say that the 45 minutes I had on my own were some of my favorites.
I meet the gang up at the mosaics, and the crew is in need of a snack. I look at Chuck and see that he still has the disgruntled look on his face. I decide to get us each a bottle of water and hope that it will eventually help. I hate seeing that look. Once all snacks and drinks are purchased, both DMIL and DFIL notice that people are already marking their territory for the parade. They decide that we need to find a place and just wait it out. I just smile even though the urge is for me to scream “I told you so”. We find some seats right in front of the mosaics. Judy and Allan both sit against the wall, but I take a seat on the ground at the end of the sidewalk.
Little by little, more people come in all around us and the in-laws come down to sit next to Chuck and I on the ground. I want to get some good pictures without people’s heads in my way. After finishing off his bottle of water and sitting on the ground, Chuck admits that he is feeling a lot better and the cramping has gone away. I knew the water would help but sitting on the ground was a new one.
Before we know it, the parade begins and the snapping of the camera begins. My apologies as I have a lot of pictures but I did try and narrow it down to my favorites.
We had about a 5-minute lag between the Grand Marshalls and the beginning of the parade. This guy comes walking down the street and I just felt he should be immortalized in my vacation photos.
I loved this parade. I took about 30 other pictures. I do miss a couple of the floats as I was talking to Chuck about something and by the time I realized I needed to take the picture, it was too close. Oh well. After the parade finishes, we try not to get trampled and finally stand up. Since we were sitting for over an hour, my legs are not quite ready to move, and I stumble along for a few minutes.
Judy decides she wants to see Mickey no matter how long the wait. I want to go to DCA to catch Block Party Bash. We literally flip a coin. Judy wins. So off we go to Toontown and I have yet another reason for me to return to this wonderful place. Since the parade let out, most people flock to Fantasyland and we make a run, well fast limp in my case, over to Mickey’s house. When I see the line of people coming out the door, I shake my head but make my way into his home.
In WDW, I usually bypass Mickey’s House to get his autograph and picture as I usually schedule one character meal with him. This is my first time in his home, and I take plenty of pictures to mark the occasion of my first visit.
I found this hilarious for some reason!
Hidden Mickey that is not so hidden.
Judy walks out of our meeting with Mickey so happy. Mickey kissed her hand and she is definitely feeling the love. As we are walking back towards the hub in front of the Castle, we hear some that there are going to be a couple meet and greets with some princesses. Allan wants to stick around (Go figure!!) so Judy and Allan go stand in what is suppose to be the line. I go make myself at home on a wall to rest the foot as the toe is speaking to me in a not so nice manner. I do grab one more picture of the castle.
Chuck joins me on the wall, and I tell him the plan for this evening. Since Judy and Allan didn’t want me to make dining reservations tonight, I knew they were going to have to wait for a table. I had some plans to meet up with Karen and Zack at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen.
After waiting about 30 minutes with no princesses in sight, we give up and make our way down Main Street. Judy and I leave the guys sitting on a bench and we head into the Emporium. I told Judy before this trip was over, I would have her in some kind hat or wearing ears. Well, she agrees to let me buy them for her only if I wear some ears too. That’s not an issue for me as I don’t mind. She picks out the fuschia sequin ears with the different colored scarves hooked to them. Quite flashy!! I go with the standard gold sequin ears with a gold bow. Now our shopping does not end there. She find the character earrings and goes nuts. She ends up with Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Minnie, Mickey and I think one more. She also buys herself a costume ring with the main stone being Mickey head shaped. She buys me a simple band with Mickey heads all around it. I it!!
I purchase the ears and a couple of magnets while she makes her purchases. The guys in the meantime think we have been sucked into an endless shopping vacuum and come searching for us. I think they are getting hungry and are ready to head to DTD.

Re: Heading West to the \"Original\": Day 4, Part 2: I Can\'t Say I Told You So
Great update, Dawn. And how sweet that DMIL and DFIL surrender to the fun, you don't always get that. DH worked a House of Blues show at DL a few years ago and came back with a simple band w/Mickeys on it, I wonder if it's the same one. It was silver, and eventually ate my finger. Aw, but I loved it. Dawn, you sat in my favorite spot to see that parade! I cry every single time when the music stops and Walt's voice comes over the loudspeaker saying, "To all who come to this happy place... welcome." I'm getting a little misty eyed now just thinking about it. I'm so glad you got to see it!
