Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

If I was a DVC member, can I "re-bank" the points I already banked?
For Example: Say I have 100 points per year... If I banked all 100 of my 2010 points to 2011, that gives me 200 points to use for 2011. Can I then "re-bank" the 100 points from 2010 combined with banking the 100 points from 2011 to allow me to have 300 points to use for 2012 (2010-100 + 2011-100 + 2012-100)?
(And, if the banking system works that way, does it mean that I could end up with thousands of points just by continually banking the ones I didn't use? Not that I have use for so many points, but it's been a point that has been on my mind.)
Points can only be banked one year forward. The 2010 points could be banked into 2011 but if they are not used by the end of the 2011 Use Year, they simply expire and are forfeit.

DVC does allow members to borrow from a year in the future so you could use 2010 banked, 2011 current and 2012 borrowed points for a single reservation.

Question Able to bank current use-year points when you have borrowed?

Hello.

We have borrowed all of our points from the next use year to use for this year's vacation. At the 7-month mark, I am hoping that I will be able to change our reservation to a resort that will cost fewer points (AKV or SSR) so that we will have those points to use next year (we will need 440 and our annual allotment is only 290).

I know that once you have borrowed points that you must use them in the current use year, and cannot "re-bank" these for use in their original use year. My question is -- am I still able to bank my current use-year points? In other words, if I change my current year's reservation and therefore will use 240 fewer points for this year's vacation, can I bank those 240 points for use next year? I sure hope so!

Thank you -- you guys are the best.

Yes. You cannot un-borrow or un-bank points. But if the reservation has some current year points in it that will no longer be needed, you can leave those unused in the cheaper booking and still bank them.

To buy or not to buy that is the question

DH and I have been looking into DVC. WE have had ownership in a points timeshare before and were very unhappy and so we are a little nervous. The Disney name is the only reason we are considering as we are Disney fanatics. I do hav ea few questions. On the annual dues, are they due all at once or can you make payments? Second I have been looking at resale vs. through Disney. I would like to go on cruises and possible use them for an ABD. So my question is if we buy our first round of points through Disney and then use a resale company can we combine these points for one trip (cruise) or do i need to keep the points seperated? Third, when we checked into this the first time we were told our deed would be for 50 years, upon reading I'm thinking this is not the case, is this correct. Thank you for all your help. Your posts have been absolutely wonderful!!!

Yes you can arrange to pay the annual dues monthly. Since the changes for the resale market in March you can now only use points purcahsed directly through Disney on cruises. So if you purchased some points through Disney and some by resale, you can only use those points you purchased directly through Disney on cruises. The length on your deed will depend on what the home resort is that you purcahse points in. It is not a stright 50 years. For example Bay Lake Tower deeds expire in 2060, so if you bought last year it would be 50 years, while if you bought this year it would only be for 49 years and so on.

This may have been answered somewhere before, but what does Disney offer when the DVC expires? For instance: I am wanting to buy into BCV for 120 points, which expire in 2042. What is the current offer to DVC members who have their timeshare expire? It's tempting to buy at a different resort for longer, but I am in love with BCV & have this opportunity with DVC to buy there...

Suggestions welcome!

We are considering buying points through re-sale. From looking on-line, there seem to be a handful of companies that sell re-sale. Can anyone tell me which ones are the better companies to work with?

We already own 125 points at BLT and were just toying around with buying more at AKL (like 120). DH said there are benefits to owning at 2 different properties. I think the only benefit is the booking window. Although, we would only be able to book 120 points at the 11 mo window at AKL and/or 125 points at BLT. We couldn't use the full 245 points at the 11 month window. But he insists there are other benefits. Does anyone know if this is true?

was wondering this also, we would like to get another 50 points to get to a total of 210. Seems like the 1 bedrooms we have been looking at are that amount. of coarse we just got the thing in the mail from dvc saying if you buy 100 you get 20 free, think it is for AK

You can only book at 11 months with points OWNED at a given resort.

Own 100 AKV points...book 100 points at AKV at 11 months. Of course, banking and borrowing within that contract can give you up to 300 for use on a single 11 month reservation (or multiple reservations.)

Point is, no you cannot use BLT points to book AKV at 11 months, or any other similar variation.

We looked into this a lot when we bought in August. We were looking at BLT and AKV trying to decide which we wanted. My DH didn't care for BLT but we liked the idea of being on the monorail line. We love AKV so it was one we knew we would like. We thought about splitting and getting 110 at BLT and 110 at AKV, but after talking to our rep and thinking about it, we realized this was an awful decision. We couldn't book a whole trip at the 11 month mark and would probably end up with lots of split stays which we don't like. We found no other compelling reason to buy at two resorts, unless you have enough at both resorts to book a whole stay.

Now if we had a really good offer at a second resort we may have done it simply for the discount and would probably bank/borrow to get a stay out of a contract, but this was more complicated and we really liked AKV, and it was far cheaper at the time we bought. Right now I believe there is a good deal at AKV, so that may be the "benefit" that would make it worth it for you.
