As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I don't think I've laughed so much in ages! I just wish I'd been able to include that in my scrapbook pages about the bacon incident - that would've been so perfect.
Karen, I loved your installment - that was so funny about Zack's 'relapse' and his desire to make it through the day because he wanted to learn - you have a great actor on your hands there.
More please - from both of you!

As for the "down with bacon" pic -- I have this foolish talent for playing with clip art, so it was all my creation
Glad you guys liked it.
Karen and I should both be updating soon. And get ready... don't be drinking anything during our Goofy's kitchen interaction. Karen was on her game that night!!

I somehow missed Karen's update, but I'm so glad I went back and read it! The two of you are both so funny, and put together in the same trip report, it's even better! Now I really can't wait to hear about Goofy's Kitchen! Re: DisneyWHAT?? - oh, DisneyLAND - 3/16-20 - Day 2/part3- Updated 3/28
Sorry guys! I think Eileen was waiting for me to catch up, and they blew a transformer on campus yesterday totally disabling our internet and email access at Stanford. Then, I had to play "shoulder to cry on" for my friend who's dating the commitment-phobic last night. I'll be posting more in a second!

Re: DisneyWHAT?? - oh, DisneyLAND - 3/16-20 - Day 2/part3- Updated 3/28
Day Two - Part One (A Glimpse Inside the Cuckoo's Nest, aka Karen's Brain)
Even though we weren’t in bed much before midnight, I was up as soon as the morning sun peaked its way through the dingy curtains of the EconoLodge. And, Rachel complains about Orange Julius! Actually, it wasn’t bad, just an older motel in a really weird part of town. As we were driving there the night before, we passed the mini-marts and motels that are common around Disneyland and then went into this half residential / half industrial area, and then bammo! There’s the EconoLodge. Weird.
The worst part was that from our 3rd story room, we had a view of the entire Disney resort area, with the lights of the rides and Disney hotels blinking away in a mocking manner. It was the cruelest tease. Like, “Look kid. There’s where you could have been staying. Ifff… your parents had made better life choices. (Like, majoring in computer science instead of history, dang liberal arts education. ) Or, ifff… they’d just booked a little earlier.” The other families we saw during our brief stay didn’t look too perturbed though, and we weren’t either. So, either it was a fine motel, or we’d all slipped into a chemical induced haze from the asbestos plant next door.
Anyway, the showers worked well, and the in room coffee wasn’t half bad , so for the 7.5 hours we were there it was just fine. We picked up Eileen and Calder just a wee bit late, and were on track to get into Disneyland right about 8 o’clock. After we parked, I tried to snag a shot of Calder in the borrowed Stitch hat, but he wasn’t cooperating. I had three straight shots of asphalt until I snagged this one… the little bugger!
I know Eileen mentioned the chaos of the Alice in Wonderland characters inside the front gate, and I did manage to snag this one photo of Tweedle Dum.
But then, we were off for rides! I really wanted to make sure that Eileen got a chance to see most of the “exclusive to Disneyland” rides and I can’t go to Disneyland (even after 50+ trips) without some sort of itinerary, so I’d drafted the loosest sort of schedule. It went something like this…
8:00: Enter Disneyland park
8:03: Interact with characters (approximately 3 characters X 90 seconds per interaction = 4 minutes, 30 seconds total duration)
8:08: Walk down Main Street
8:11: Enter Matterhorn Line
8:16: Load Matterhorn Ride Vehicle.
Of course, I was trying to make it seem all casual-like; “Yeah (said with arm stretch,) I may have a couple of ideas of things to see.” But inside, I was in turmoil, especially when we stalled just inside the front gate. [ Inside Karen's Head] “Come on Eileen, you’ve talked to Tweedle Dum for 72 seconds. You do know he can’t talk back to you, don’t you? Don’t you!? Come on! No, don’t ask him about Tweedle Dee! Come on!” And then, we approach Matterhorn and find a 10-minute line! The schedule was ruined I tell you, totally ruined. Actually, we did pretty well sticking to the itinerary, in general, if it wasn’t for those pesky offspring bugging us for inconsequential things like food, water, and bathroom breaks.
Where was I? Ah, yes the Matterhorn.
I asked Zack last night to tell me what Eileen had said while riding. Here’s the direct transcription… “Weee, ohhh, ha, ha, ha, <grunt>, yow, aahhh, ha, ha, ha, oof, ha, ha, ha, wooo, wooo, ha, ha, ha. That was great!” We love that girl of ours! Of course, the second we got off, we jumped onto Alice in Wonderland for another exclusive to Disneyland ride.
Then, right on schedule, we broke our fast with the, you guessed it, exclusive to Disneyland cinnamon rolls at the Blue Ribbon Bakery. Our fast sufficiently broken, we were off to Indiana Jones.
I did purposely give Eileen the “sucker” seat, but it’s probably only scary to dorks like me. In the one scene where this seat is in prime position, a giant (like roughly the size of a T-Rex) snake is stationed against the right hand wall. You can see this snake the moment you enter the room. It doesn’t make any sudden slithering movements; it just slowly descends towards the ride vehicle. When you go past it, it is closest to the “sucker seat” but still several feet away and it gives off a kind of roar. Now, I’ve been on this ride dozens of time, I carefully watch this snake the entire time, and I still scream bloody murder. Every. Single. Time. What’s the matter with me? Well, at least I don’t scream on the freakin’ Jungle Cruise, like some people from this trip report. Hey, Eileen?
In December, Calder had expressed an interest in exploring the Swiss Family Treehouse. Well, after the boys had explored, my punky (and not in the cute Chunky Chips Ahoy way either, “Oy! Oy! Oy!”) pre-teen put a damper on things by declaring it “lame.” Eileen and I secretly think that Calder liked it, but couldn’t admit it in front of Zack. So, I was determined to let Calder explore Tarzan’s Treehouse unimpeded, by letting him know I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I climbed the steps and went hog wild over everything. My son was SOOOO on to me.
Can’t you see it in this picture? Can’t you? He’s all, “I’m sooo on to you, dorkus maximus mother of mine.” But then, something magical happened on the descent down the stairs. Zack actually started to get into it all. Check him out, all rapping with bonesy here…
And, then jamming on the xylophone…
And Calder seemed to have a good time too…
The boys didn’t seem that interested in the Haunted Mansion, so with Pirates of the Caribbean closed, New Orleans Square was a walk-by. We grabbed a Fastpass for Splash, rode on Pooh, almost got poor Tigger fired for inducing a child to commit indecent exposure, and experienced the acting (posing) skills of my boy Zack. And, we did it all on schedule too! Not much to add to Eileen’s report, but a couple of pictures.
Zack was totally cracking up because Tigger was “attacking” me from behind as I took the shot.
Who says Zack never gets embarrassed? Check out the look on his face (and the hand carefully protecting his zipper) in this shot! Eileen, back to you!

Ya know... I think that's exactly what I said on the Matterhorn. 'Cause it's what I say on every ride!! Between maniacal laughter and plenty of "woo hoos," I have to absorb the shock to my system. Karen heard it first-hand on BTMRR in WDW
I *was* waiting for Miss K to update, but now I'm in total gardening mode because the weather in Pennsylvania is just fabu today. I hope to post an update again soon....
