As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thank you for the Snack Bag Idea. When we went in Sept., I did pack individual bags of pretzels, gold fish, and fruit snacks which came on the plane for DS and I down to Florida (maybe a few other snacks I like too, I can't remember what though), and my mom went to the Dollar Store and Stocked up on snacks and packed a basket full of the snacks, which we would keep some in the room, and everything else in the car and would grab some to bring into the parks with us too. I think she got Sugar Wafer Cookies, Keebler Mini Chips Cookies, Cheetos, we did pack some nuts for us too (I love Cashews, Pistashios, and Almonds, so we had a stash of those), raisins, dried fruit, Homemade Banana Nut Muffins (which were our breakfast for our first few days and snacks too if we needed a pick me up). We did also bring a cooler with some cold water, yogurt for our drive (we'd each eat one with a muffin during our Reststop an hour away to hopefully tie us over until lunch), we also packed whole fruit (Apples, Bananas, and Oranges), and brought a case of bottled water (with propel and lemonade or tea mix) and some Mot's for Tots apple juice boxes for DS. I did also bring with some small snack size M & Ms for DS (as they worked when needing to shift his attention or keep him happy on the plane), we did also have Animal Crackers, and I did bring some small lollipops too for him (he doesn't get candy often so these were mostly for good behavior or to keep him content on the plane).
We had plenty to choose from although I do feel a tad bit foolish not knowing we could have bought a box of popcorn and popped it in the Food Court at our resort instead of using a snack credit on popcorn (although Disney does have great popcorn), and a few other snacks that I did use them on. Some of the snacks were great to have on hand as we had plenty left over that my mom did bring a lot of what she bought back home with her (she did leave us some in the room), and we had snacks for the plane ride too. I was happy though that we saved snack credits for a Mickey Bar, a few Mickey Rice Krispy Treats, Nachos which were craved once. The muffins were a smart decision to bring with as we tried to make it for RD that we could take breakfast to go.
The only snack I don't think we thought to bring with was a bag of Chips and a jar of salsa for the room (or even smaller containers to bring with us to snack on in the parks), but that's ok, we had plenty. We did also often take our Dessert to go from our QS meals, and if DS didn't finish his carrots or grapes that came with his kids meals, or PB&J, we took them with us we had the food and snacks with us and the rest of his meal to let him enjoy while waiting or watching the Parade and Fireworks. This idea is certainly a lifesaver though when traveling with little ones, or just being able to find a place to sit down and refuel without having to wait in a long line for a snack and not missing out on too much of your park time. I will certainly do this again the next time we go, or even for another Theme Park Trip (maybe go for the basket idea and give us choices, but pack things we know our little boy likes). I also did remember to purchase gum and mints for my mom and I beforehand.
To the OP, one man's nerdy is another woman's OCD! I prefer to call it ATD: attention to detail.
For our Disney trips, I'll start picking up snacks that I usually don't pick up, but the kids are dying to have, like Yogo's, fruit roll-ups, pop-tarts, etc. I stash them into a shoebox container. Mostly I just make sure they are things that aren't going to melt. I'll add some small candies, portion out trail mix and dried fruits, protein bars (Luna Protein are our faves!) Each day of our trip, they pack some things into their backpack or waist pack, and they can graze throughout the day at their leisure. Whatever we take, I try not to take much, because part of the fun is eating snacks there, but it never fails, as soon as we are in line, someone is STARVING!!! I also buy a reusable water bottle or mug or two, as a souvenir and use it for ice water and bring crystal light powders...LOVE them! It helps cut down on the soda consumption and increases the water consumption.
When the snacks and any morning treats are gone, there is extra room for souvenirs and things in the luggage!
Just found this thread, and I think it's great! I thought it was challenging with 3 kids, but you guys have me beat!
I think the snack bags sound great. Not sure whether I will actually get around to putting them together before our upcoming trip, but it would be nice . . .
I only have three kids so not as hard as 6 to pack snacks for, but I have been doing that same thing for years. I pack each their own bag with their own snacks so there isn't any issues. Works out very well for us. I still do it years later.
Fantastic idea!! You save so much time and "thats not fair" discussions. Not to mentions the money you save. I'd like one of those bags for myself at the park. Love it!
