No kids on your trip? Just couples? - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

For me, the true beauty and wonder of Walt Disney World lies in its versatility when it comes to vacation style. Many years ago we took trips with the kids while they were young. Now that they're all grown-up, they've accompanied us on some of our trips and some of them we've done just the two of us. We've celebrated everything from birthdays to anniversaries at WDW and each celebration is always magical in its own unique way. Most recently, WDW was the site of a surprise proposal for my daughter when her then boyfriend, now fiance flew down and surprised her in a spectactular fashion (with a wee bit of help from us) in the middle of our family vacation. We have so many special family moments like this that WDW is a huge part of and it's difficult for me to even envision a life with no Disney vacations in it. That's probably one of the main reasons why we joined the Disney Vacation Club. No matter what your family situation or marital status, Disney World has something to offer everyone from every walk of life.
Joy

My fiance and I are heading down the Disney this August. We don't have children. When others hear of our plans they often ask, "What are you two going to do down there? Eat with Mickey?" to which we answer "ABSOLUTELY!". And no, we aren't kidding, we have some character meals planned! The two of us are so swamped with school (we're both in grad school) that a fantasy get-away is something we both need to complete our final year . I'm glad others here feel the same way we do about an "adult only" trip. After stocking up on books (I work in a bookstore and my boss can not get over my enthusiasm) we are more excited than ever! Thanks for reaffirming that Disney can be fun for all ages! I knew we weren't the only two out there .

We have no Kids and we LOVE IT!
we went once with our nieces and another time with a group of kids it was nice but when we go alone we love it. We ARE the kids! we do as we please, we rest when we want, we do kids stuff if we feel like it and adult if we feel like it. It is AWESOME! I think you are going to have a great time!
DH and I bought DVC just for us. We love taking our grandkids, but it's really nice to go alone and just act like kids again. Plus you get to stay up as late as you want to!
Disney is SO fun for every age. On our last trip, the second most exciting part of the trip was our character breakfast with Pooh and Friends! The first was when my fiance proposed to me! Yeah!! :-)

Last Trip: AS Sports for our 1st anniversary
Next trip: our 1st DVC stay @ BLT for our 2nd anniversary!!
My dd's are older, & I love going with them. It's so much fun being a kid again!! And you don't have the constraints of going with young children, way easier. My hat is off to those of you that go with young children. I don't know if I could do it!! The strollers, the gear, the melt-downs!
DH and I went to WDW together for the first time sans kids 17 years ago! DS #1 was just a 8 months old and stayed with DH's Aunt in West Palm. We have been there 3 times since without kids. The last time was this past January. DS15 went to WI to my sisters and DS17 went to my parents in Ohio.
These trips are wonderful. We act like kids and are great relationship rejuvenators. We do kid things and the adult stuff like Pleasure Island.
Real soon there will be no kids in the house and we will keep on going!
YES!!! DH and I have gone to Disney every year for 10 years now. Luckily the last four have been courtesy of the Free dining plan and that has saved us so much money. Lately we've been staying for 9 nights/10 days and you would really think with all that time and no kids we could see and do it all, well guess what? You can't! We make ourselves take a day off to go to Universal, which always makes us appreciate Disney all the more. DH loves the big roller coasters over at IOA. We love taking the time to do both waterparks and we are pretty much all about commando style touring, we are there before the gate opens, every park every time, then we take a mid day break for nap/pool time, then back out for dinner and evenings in the parks.
I get the same questions you do, but anyone looking at our photos can tell by the huge smiles on our faces what a great time we had on each of our trips. It's one of the last places left that I leave the laptop and blackberry behind and immerse myself in a fantasy world where dreams come true. We have a fabulous time together. We are all just big kids ourselves, aren't we?!
We discovered DCL last year, took our first 3 day cruise (way way too short, you were hardly on before you had to get off) then took a 7 night cruise and adored it. We will do DCL again next year. ENJOY!
This year, it's just my boyfriend and I, no children yet.
Next year, my brother wants to go with us - he'll be 16 next year so it isn't quite a child, but not quite NOT a child either.
I have a feeling it'll be the most fun this first time, if only for selfish reasons. Once we have kids, no more going on whatever rides WE want to go on, eat where we want to eat, etc. It'll be totally changed. Of course, we'll take the kids there (when we have them) and it'll be a very different kind of fun, but I still think this just-couples trip will be the best.
But this year, we're still doing character dining, and I already told him that I intend on getting autographs and pictures taken!
We are a child-free couple by choice and we LOVE going to WDW! We are really looking forward to our next visit as we will be going with my best friend and her DH. We have a great time all by ourselves, but every once in a while we invite another couple to come along.
As others have said about themselves, we are like big kids when we arrive at WDW. Especially when seeing the castle for the first each visit!

My DH and I have no children yet and we love to go to Disney. It's our favorite vacation spot. We even had our honeymoon in Disney for 12 days. We get tons of pictures with the characters and do character meals....4 of them on our upcoming trip. Most of our friends think we are a little crazy. They just don't get it.
Life is difficult and when your at Disney.....it's not. It's like getting to be a kid again with no worries.

DH and I will be going on 3rd trip to WDW w/o the kiddies. It is like an additional honeymoon! Do I feel guilty? Nope! It keeps us sane!
Last January, DH and I rode our bicycles from OKW to SS to DTD to fantasia gardens to BW and then back to OKW. Did you know the sidewalks end by DTD and that St. Augustine grass is like quick sand to bike tires? The 7 mile round trip experience was exhausting. Moral: it's fun without kids as well if you don't kill yourself while doing it!
