Shhhh ... A Very Merry Surprise! ~ PTR for 11/4 - 11/12 2011 - Page 8 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I agree...the trip will be here soon enough and we want to enjoy our summer as well.
I did t-shirts a couple of trips ago and also jammies. We still wear them.
Jammies, that's a great idea! I might have to steal that idea

LOVE to see all the cute t-shirts people come up with to wear to WDW! I have enjoyed reading your PTR and I'd love to be able & pull off a surprise like you're doing, hang in there! We love MVMCP & the Osborne Lights, they are so much fun, especially the parade! One of my favorite MK memories is riding Dumbo in the rain with the kids during MVMCP, we have found that the lines for some of the more popular rides are much shorter during the first parade.

Jenn - just found this, and I'm so excited for you! We're also planning a surprise trip (couldn't put the real countdown on my sig in case the kids saw it), and I'm having such a tough time not talking about it. We love to plan together as a family, but we did two trips (2008 & 2009), so the kids know what to expect. But that doesn't help me when I want to chatter about everything, and have the kids start saving spending money, and make ADRs, and, and, and... DH doesn't have the stamina to discuss it all with me - and he doesn't think I'll keep the secret. That just gives me more strength. Secret Sisters Unite!
We're also looking forward to our first time with the MVCP and Osborne Lights - it's gonna be great!
Jenn, just wanted to tell you - WOW! WAS IT HOT IN EDISON!!!! Add to that an un-air conditioned storage unit on the second floor - it was madness. Hope the heat lets up soon.
ps, we ate at Pasquale's on Oak Tree Road and it was amazing!! If you haven't been, make a trip over there. Our server was Sasha (owner's daughter) and she was great. Tell her the folks from SC say hi!!

Thanks for reading along! I am really looking forward to all of the Christmas festivities at the parks, I can't wait! I'll definitely post some pics of the tshirts when I'm done with them, but I can't take credit for the designs. Someone else from the boards is helping me with them!

Good luck with keeping your surprise! It is so hard, but being able to talk about it on the message boards has helped a lot!! I get to vent my excitement with out yacking away to my friends or family who don't always get my disney "obsession"

Finally, we've gotten a break from the heat, it was brutal this weekend! I was thinking of you on Saturday, hoping that you weren't melting away while you were at the storage unit I have not heard of Pasquale's, I'm not usually in the area of Oak Tree Road. Sounds like I might have to make a trip up there one of these days
I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a way to reveal the surprise to my DDs. I knew that I wanted to do it either the morning of our departure, or sometime that day during the drive, and have decided to do it that morning before we leave. We've taken many road trips, but really the only ones of long distance where the car has been packed full were our previous Disney trips, so I know they will probably be thinking Disney when they see the car and roof rack full of stuff. Plus, I've mentioned it before, but we walk to school in the morning, so they will be really thrown for a loop when we hop into the car I found a mickey waffle maker on sale, so I got it and plan on making them for breakfast that morning, and I'll serve it on some Disney plates that we have, making a nice theme. After they are done, I'll give them some goodie bags, filled with some Disney items, as well as one of the Tshirts that I'm making up for each of them. I've asked Shadowryter to help me with the designs, she has some awesome ones! One of the designs I chose is a Mickey Bubble that has the Fab Five inside of it, and above it will say "I'm going to Disney World". (I'll post pics once I've got them done, I promise!) Hopefully, after seeing the shirts, there will be some screams of excitement from the girls, and we'll pack into the car and be on our way!

Steal away!! I didn't tell anyone, including DH and I just got simple white t-shirts and light gray cotton boxers and put a Mickey on the front of the t-shirt (logo area) and on the bottom of one leg of the boxers and packed them in my carry-on. For the girls, you could get cute shorts pj's.
I LOVE the Mickey waffle idea for breakfast. I'm envious of the surprise trip and the reactions you're going to get. I just can't not talk about it with my boys though. Maybe a SECOND trip in a year will be the only way I can surprise them...now...convincing Craig

Sounds so cute! I'd love a pair of Mickey PJs And, I can't say that we don't talk Disney at all with the girls, that would be pure torture We do talk about things they would like to do on our next trip, and we watch you tube videos, etc. They know we will make a trip eventually, they just don't realize it's this year
So, thanks to Shadowryter and her great design ability, I'm now one step closer to getting my shirts done! I've just got to get the transfer paper, and I'll be set. Here are the images that I will be using: (sorry, but I'm still getting the hang of inserting the images into my posts, apparently I still can't do it Not sure what I'm doing wrong )

I can see them - I love it!! They look great!! How did you add them on your post? I have been trying to figure out how too!!
