10 Nights of Magic in The Orlando Trifecta-TR - COMPLETE!! 12/10 - Page 78 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! I Should Have Made These for The Afternoon Instead!
Thursday, October 12th (Part I) After, such a long day yesterday and today (I returned to the Dolphin at 2:45 am), knowing that I’d be sleeping in. I knew I’d need the sleep and I did. I got up around 10 am and got ready for my day. It would be another hot and humid day and sunny and no rain was in the forecast!
Unfortunately, by sleeping in I’d miss my first two Fastpass+ reservations for the day. They were for Soarin’ and Spaceship Earth. Soarin’ I’m sorry I missed as one of my favorite WDW attractions, but glad I got to go on it a few days ago. Spaceship Earth is not a big deal as I do enjoy it but isn’t one of my favorites. I still have one for Mission Space in the afternoon and we’ll see if I do this one as I’ll be at the Food & Wine Festival during this time. I should have made these for the afternoon instead! But then again, I’d be at the Festival, so a bit of a conflict.
I went down to Fuel in the Dolphin for a bit of breakfast with a coffee and croissant. Just enough to get me going and would be having lunch in not too long. I returned to my room for a bit before heading to Epcot and make sure I was ready to go to Epcot. I left my room at 11:15 am and began the short walk to Epcot via the International Gateway.
Of course, I got several photos during my walk to Epcot. As you’ll see it’s a very beautiful day.
Yacht Club Resort
Beach Club Villas
Friendship Boat below the bridge just before the gates at Epcot
I arrived at the International Gateway and there were several guests entering Epcot but the line wasn’t too bad. After going through security, I scanned my MagicBand and I was now back in Epcot. The plan was to make the ten-minute walk or so to the Festival Center as I had to pick up my ticket for the Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It culinary experience I was taking at 12:15 pm.
Not too crowded yet, but only about 11:30 am now and probably more so on the other side of the lagoon.
Always enjoy these in the United Kingdom!
In just a few minutes, I was in Future World and I only had a few more minutes to walk to the Festival Center.
I can never keep walking when the fountains are putting on a show!
Not as great as at night but still a good show with the Illuminations!
Shortly, I arrived at the Festival Center to check in for my Festival special event.
I got in line for my event which was Mix It, Make It, Celebrate it. It’s a hands-on experience and involves putting together a culinary dish. This one is Patagonia Verlazzo Salmon with chef Jennifer Bushman. In just a few minutes, we were let in to the seating area in which many tables were set up. I chose one of the front tables. I was looking forward to this as I am a big fan of salmon and wondering what kind of salmon creation we would be making.
Once, I sat down I met my tablemates. Throughout the seminar, I’d enjoy their company. Slowly, the place began to fill up and it looked like a full house. Below you’ll see all the ingredients of the Verlazzo Salmon dish, which would be a salad.
The salmon looks good and can’t wait to indulge!
The one on the top left is sea salt and ground pepper combo
Precooked Couscous
Arugula for the salmon salad
Quite a lot and variety of ingredients
Glass of Champagne with lots of condensation on the glass
Shortly, our host came to the stage and introduced Jennifer Bushman to us. This is the same host I had last year for my Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It seminar. She gave some background on Jennifer before we got into the food portion of the seminar. She is an accomplished chef with several cookbooks to her name and has many awards and culinary achievements.

What we’d be creating, although some of it is precooked
Cooking stage in Festival Center
Cooking the Couscous in vegetable stock
Over the course of the next 30 minutes we were given instructions step by step on how to make this dish. We were also given a lot of background about this dish and other culinary terms and cuisine from the Patagonia region of Argentina. Jennifer was very good and made the experience interesting with a lot of knowledge and sharing her experiences in the culinary world. I enjoyed her and this experience so much as our creation came together.
Over the next few minutes our dishes came together and were also enjoying the Champagne as well. Below is the finished product! See what you think.
Grilled Verlazzo Salmon Salad with Roasted Red Peppers, Couscous and Arugula
What’s left of the dressing in the mason jar we made. Not much left, but didn’t feel there was too much dressing in the salad and just right to my liking.
Overall, the salad was excellent and packed a lot of flavor. All the ingredients complimented each other so well. It was a good size portion and felt like a full lunch and I was satisfied and perhaps a bit full after this.
Some of my tablemates enjoying their salads
While, we were finishing up our salads Jennifer entertained questions from the audience. I asked one. One thing I see in many markets is fish advertised as being organic. I’ve always been skeptical about this. Jennifer said there isn’t such a thing as fully organic raised fish as it’s nearly impossible to regulate and control all the elements in the environment where a certain fish exists in. Even though they are raised much better than most.
Jennifer also went into elements of farm to table food from fish, meats and vegetables and how she is very involved with this. It’s about making all our food more sustainable. I think it’s for the best as the quality is so much better. She also mentioned about not depleting fish populations to the extent where they become endangered and how this can be accomplished.
Our seminar was now over and upon exiting the room we were all given a gift bag. In it were a white ceramic tea trinket decorated with the Food & Wine Festival emblem, a Verlazzo Salmon chef’s apron, a copy of our menu and a small book of Jennifer Bushman’s on sea sustainability with various salmon dishes. Quite nice and more than I was expecting to take home. Last year I just received a small wooden Epcot Food & Wine Festival cutting board, which I love and use it regularly.
I thought about visiting the Festival Center Store and looking around and perhaps buying something from the Food & Wine Festival, but I decided to wait on this and will return later before going back to the Dolphin. I was already carrying around my gift bag from the seminar and didn’t want to add any more to it.
I headed out of the Festival Center and sought to hopefully get some attractions in before going to the World Showcase for the Food & Wine Festival. I was full from our meal at the seminar, so I wasn’t quite ready to begin indulging at the booths just yet!

Looks like a great seminar. I wanted to sign up for that one for our upcoming trip but they were sold out on the date we needed. Your finished product looks delicious.

That sounds like a wonderful seminar. I enjoy doing those types of things and am most excited on our upcoming cruise to cook with some chefs from Palos! Your meal looked quite good!

It was quite enjoyable and Jennifer provided a lot of great information! That should be quite an experience when cooking with the Palo chefs as the cuisine is so good there.

What an awesome and delicious seminar! That goodie bag at the end was really a treat, too!
It was a great experience overall and the end result of the salmon salad was just so good as overwhelmed me with such a variety of flavors! I could eat this any day for lunch! I couldn't believe the goodie bag as I was expecting something simple like one item in October, 2016 and a small wooden cutting board, but I got so much more! No complaints from me with this.
I have gotten so much use out of the cutting board. It's small....but absolutely perfect! I don't drink a lot of tea but the trinket I got in October, 2017 looks so colorful to match everything on my hutch!
