As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Wow, quite the bedrooms! Although I will never understand how the killing of an animal and then showing off it's dead body in one's house is a "cool" thing to do.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing that beautiful mansion!!! The furnishings in the bedrooms were so beautiful and the bathrooms were just incredible. What a view you had from the top of the tower. Were there a lot of stairs to climb to get up there?

I don't remember how many, but it was way too many for us to consider climbing the other tower... let's put it that way.

I'm pretty sure I would have jump in fright seeing that tiger skin rug on the floor. Other than that, the bedrooms and the bathrooms were really something awesome!
The first thing I thought when I saw the rug was that knowing me I'd probably trip over the head when I got up in the middle of the night. Both bathrooms are quite impressive as are the views from the tower.
The last time I visited I was helping to chaperon my daughter's school class, so the rug wasn't on the floor. I had forgotten about it. So my guess was wrong. My guess was about his shower, an extremely modern convenience for the time in which it was built.
I love her suite of rooms. If someone brought my meals, I would never have to leave just those rooms other than to go outside.

What's with all the canons? There's one in his bedroom (maybe THAT'S how the tiger rug got there!) AND downstairs?! Was he expecting invaders? Sacre bleu, invaders in the castle?!

Yay, finally I can post - sorry for the lateness, but the boards have been down for the last nine hours... it's been driving me insane!
Sunday 18 September – part five: oh wow, this is amazing!
We made our way out of Casa Loma, with the intention of going to the Royal Ontario Museum. I’d rather pass over the next half hour or so, but it basically consisted of us going round in circles, and getting ever more frustrated at roads being closed for a community event, and a complete lack of parking, then getting lost thanks to not being able to turn where the GPS said we could. Suffice to say it all got a bit heated…
Finally we did find parking in the University of Toronto complex. It started with a Royal charter granted back in 1827 by King George IV and it’s grown to become one of Canada’s most prestigious universities. It’s a wonderfully historic place, and one of those where everywhere you look, you see beautiful buildings.
We made our way over to the museum via the Philosophers’ Walk. Isn’t it pretty?
On the way, we found some more black squirrels. I am really fascinated by these things, as I have no idea why they’re black. I mean, it’s snow in the winter here, and black is hardly camouflage is it?
We found our way to the main entrance of the museum, because of course that’s not where Google Maps brought us out. I’m not having much luck with them today.
We went in and paid for the museum and the Chihuly exhibition, as that was one of the main reasons I wanted to come today. The museum was founded in 1912, and its collection is very wide ranging, as you’ll see from some of the parts we visited. We only scratched the surface of this place, as is the case with so many museums like this. It’s home to dinosaurs, Asian arts, a collection about the First Peoples of Canada, a bat cave (so not my sort of thing!) and European galleries. You get the idea…
We were told to head straight down to the Chihuly exhibition, so we did. Oh wow, we were not to be disappointed!
This is the first piece you come to, and try as I might, I couldn’t find any information about it. All the others do have the information to go with them.
This was next….
… but to me, this was the amazing piece in the whole exhibition. I could’ve sat there for hours just staring at it. I personally kept forgetting it was made out of glass, as it just didn’t look like it, and of course if you forget it’s glass, you forget how much work, and how many hours goes into this. When you start thinking about that, honestly it’s mind blowing.
Mark actually found the sea creatures in it, only after we’d been looking at it for a while. After that, I felt these were a bit of a disappointment, as you just couldn’t compete with what you’d just seen.
More great photos from Casa Loma and I really enjoyed all the rooms and especially those large baths! Not sure if I like that tiger spread out on the floor! The museum looks quite nice and the exhibitions are so unique, colorful and diverse! I can imagine staring at them for hours, but then I'd need a nap after doing so!
