As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I typed this update yesterday and only just realized that I'd never posted it.
Countdown to Zero: 16 Days Until Disney Time
On this day in 1991, the Disney/Henson television series Dinosaurs debuted on ABC. Based on an idea by Jim Henson, the show featured the live-action combination of Audio-Animatronics and puppets (only the second show to feature this technique). About a family of anthropomorphic prehistoric creatures, Dinosaurs is produced by Michael Jacobs Productions and Jim Henson Productions in association with Walt Disney Television. Stefanie loved this show, and would often look at Luke, saying, “Not the Momma, Not the Momma,” just like the baby dinosaur.
A few updates back, I mentioned two projects that we wanted to tackle or least get started on before we leave in mid-May. The first was work on our yard since we no longer have a lawn care service. Luke has been checking off various lawn treatments on Tuesday when he mows. But this past Tuesday proved to be too much for his allergies, and he has been battling a sore throat and horrible cough since then. Today, he woke up with his voice sounding a smidge better, but now all the problems seem to be in his nose and sinuses. He told me a little while ago that he didn’t know what was worse the constant blowing of his nose or the headache from stuffy sinuses. Poor boy! So send that he is well by Disney Time. He is still hoping we’ll be able to get more yard work done over the next two weeks. We’ll see!
The second project was to clean out the garage in preparation for a family yard sale. We had wonderful weather today with sunny to partly cloudy skies and a high in the lower 80s. Knowing this was the forecast, I decided last night that I was going to begin the work. Over the winter, I’ve joked that our garage looked like a couple of hoarders had moved in. I had managed back in the fall to sort through all the paraphernalia that I brought home when I retired from work, but we’ve not been through all 10 of the boxes and bags that Luke drug home at the end of October. In addition, for months we’ve just taken unwanted items and plopped them on the piles until some of it was quite precarious. I informed Luke that I could handle this by myself and that I would quit before I wore myself out. Truthfully, the task was not as difficult as I had originally thought, though it did take me 3 hours to sweep, sort, price, and then restore some sense of order. I’ll be quite happy when we get all the yard sale stuff out as then we’ll just have 8 boxes and bags from Luke’s work. (I did manage to go through 2 big boxes from his work as everything in them was some kind of seasonal decoration that he no longer wanted.) Luke hopes that once we work on Mamaw’s garage that we can move our stuff over there as it will take a couple of trips to transfer it all. We still have a lot of stuff stowed away, but it is an ordered hoard now and I clearly know what is for the sale and what is for Luke to go through. One of the bonuses of the cleaning and sorting is that our suitcases are now handy and cleared of stuff stored in them, so we can begin packing them soon. I’ll just need to haul them into the house.
Neither project is complete, but we have made headway on both.

That is a good start on the garage. We also need to do the same. Judy's brother has moved back in with us after a short trial move into a campground. A lot of his stuff is still kind of thrown into the garage. When Judy finished cleaning out her Dad's house getting it ready to sell, a lot of his stuff also ended up in our garage. Hopefully we will be able to get most of it done before the end of the year. We just don't seem to be able to get started. Glad you were able to get your suitcases out where you could get packing. NOT much longer.
Sorry about Luke's allergies. This has been a horrible season for allergy sufferers. Congrats on getting started on the garage sale stuff. It's a good feeling to get a start on projects.

I say every fall when we straighten it up one last time for winter that we are not going to use it as a dumping ground all winter, but then it happens all over again.

I've found it is always easier to collect stuff and not so easy to go through and weed out.

I checked the pollen count here again today and it is still high. Not good news for him. I do love that feeling when a project gets started.

I am anxious to hear how the sandals work out for you. Not sure about the flip-flop style for myself. They are very cute though. With Luke's allergies, he should probably let the lawn service do the rest so he will not be sick for the vacation. Loving the daily trivia - DD and I discussed the Sabrina episode and we don't remember it either. We still a stuffed Baby Dinosaur somewhere around the house. Our favorite saying was "I'm the baby, gotta love me!".

We've cancelled the lawn service, so that's not an option now. I had forgotten the "gotta love me" line.
On this day in 2008, a massive crowd of teens turned out in Long Beach, California, for the first open casting call for ABC's new summer reality TV series (tentatively titled), Disney's "High School Musical: Summer Session." I have no idea how many times this movie has been watched at our house.
Luke has felt slightly better today, but the pollen count here is still high, and that does not help.
Sorry about the allergies. I think the long winter is making for a more intense allergy season.
Our garage seriously needs some cleanup! Congrats on making progress on yours!
Sorry about Luke's allergies.....Em & I have been suffering somewhat, but luckily I started us on our meds a bit early per dr recommendation, and we have been doing fairly well for the most part.
