Cheaper by the Dozen – Lukas’ 1st Birthday Extravaganza! - Page 78 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Those safari photos put mine to shame!!! Was he using a special lens? That giraffe picture turned out great!
Sharpies again??? How weird would it be for me to whip out a pack of Crayola washable markers the next time we go? Do you think I'd get a few stares? Anyway, the massage sounded great, maybe that's what I needed too on this past trip. I haven't had one in so long that maybe it's time to treat myself.
Sounds like it was a wonderful morning. Much better than the other day. A quiet morning and a massage are so heavenly when you've got little kids. A nice momentary escape from the insanity.

That massage sounded great, just what you needed! I hate that Disney uses those Sharpies too, but I think they are a sponsor (of atleast the Kidcot stations) unfortunately. Maybe we can petition them to get Crayola to be a sponsor, wouldn't it be nice to have those washable markers instead??
Well this morning sounded MUCH better! I have never had a massage before, and it sounds wonderful.
I love going to DtD for Earl and shopping, it sounds like you guys had a good time.
It was a much better morning indeed! It was my first massage and I was a bit apprehensive, but I wouldn't hesitate next time.

Can't wait to hear about 50's PTC, it's on the list for next trip. DH actually agreed to skip Sci Fi to give it a try.
It was awesome!
No Sci-Fi!? The horror! I'm sure you'll enjoy 50s just as much. I don't think we can ever go to Disney and not eat at Sci-Fi though. It's our one must do.

After reading someone else's TR and you commenting about the baby mandrill I knew you'd like that picture.

How nice you got to sleep in! The pictures are amazing. Nothing like that early morning sunlight. Looks like the animals were active. Do you have pictures to share of your AK themed bedroom?? Would love to see!
Was that your first time at EoS? It is very good, isn't it? What did you order?
I'll have to see about taking some pics of our bedroom. Basically we have dark furniture, a giraffe print duvet, giraffe pictures that I got at AK a few years ago (they're made from banana leaves I believe). Do you notice a theme here?
And it was our first time eating at EoS. ANd it was delicious! I think I had the club but I'm not positive. I stayed outside with the boys and let others handle the ordering.

I knew you'd love that giraffe picture Cam!
You should try one out. I got a DVC discount for it too!

So glad the massage went well. Bad thing now is you are always going to want one......well wait, that's not really a bad thing as I see it!!
I love kicking around Downtown Disney, I think just really because I LOVE EoS!! But I really do need to explore more of the shops. I have never been in Once Upon a Toy. Must fix that this Sept!
I'm gonna have to remember about using the AAA for discounts there. Good info
EoS also has a AAA discount if I'm not mistaken as does World of Disney. I just wish you could combine them all.

I have no idea! It's a good thing Dylan is a little older and he's pretty serious when it comes to coloring.
Great safari pics! I love the close up picture of the giraffe!
Thanks! It's my favorite too!

It did help. I felt much better the next few days. Or I didn't let things bother me as much.

I'm pretty sure he did take a different lens for the safari. He didn't have a little one to worry about either plus the animal are pretty active in the morning when they're first released.
You're more likely to get a 'great idea' on those markers.
Treat yourself Melissa! You deserve it. Get one on next trip. Like I told Cam I got a DVC discount too.

Sponsorship would explain it.

We met up with everyone outside 50s Prime Time Café. Apparently Lukas had spit up on Kevin on the bus ride over and had gotten it on both of their shirts. Good thing I had an extra pair of clothes with me. I changed Lukas’ shirt and then checked in for our ADR. Meanwhile Kevin went to a gift shop as he couldn’t handle the smell especially since we’d be eating shortly. I kept smelling it on Lukas and ended up finding some on his shorts so I pulled the clean pair of those out and changed them as well.
Before the spit up happened.
I think Kevin smells it.
Soon we were seated. I think we were in the front room on the right – like you could look out the front window and see the park. We had a fantastic waiter, Joey. He was from Tennessee and really accentuated his accent. My FiL’s family is from TN so he played it up too. I’m not sure what everyone had but I know I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and greens. Mike had meatloaf. The boys ate off our plates. OMG! Best fried chicken ever! And I love fried chicken so this is definitely saying something. The boys loved that meatloaf too! I didn’t try it. I hate meatloaf. Meatloaf, beatloaf, I hate meatloaf. Anyway. I think when our drinks came Joey just threw the straws at us and Dylan at one point just started throwing them on the ground. Dylan kept telling our waiter he was silly too. Then Dylan was up from his seat (we were seated at 2 tables) and went up to Joey and took every single straw out of his apron pocket and threw them on the ground. Laughing the entire time. So of course he had to clean them up. But Joey told him if he did then he’d get a surprise. Also, I ordered the s’mores for dessert. AMAXING! I love nothing better than a toasted marshmallow. This was awesome and the marshmallows were perfect. (Not like LeCellier where they’re s’mores are just marshmallows on a stick. L) So Dylan cleaned up the straws and then he was given a light up Buzz Lightyear (the ones that come on the cups). Joey was fantastic, the food was scrumptious. We will definitely return to 50s PTC!
Dylan cleaning up his mess.
Of course it was raining pretty hard when we left. So we donned our ponchos, rain coats, and covered the stroller and moved on a little. My family wanted a funnel cake for dessert so they got one near Indiana Jones and huddled under an umbrella to eat it. We saw Little Mermaid next. We waited through several shows but there wasn’t much else to do in the rain anyway. Lukas again LOVED this show. Pointing and laughing. He just was so happy to see it.
Most of us were ready to get out of the rain and head back. Mike and his parents took Dylan to see Sorcerer Mickey, but it was already closed so they did Star Tours instead and then headed home. The second the rest of us got back and put the key in the door the fire alarm sounded. I should mention I was carrying a sleeping Lukas at this point. The kid didn’t even flinch at those sirens. We had to evacuate the building – they came around to make sure you did. So we head to the right of our door and down the staircase in the back. It led us right outside the big glass doors at the back of the resort. It was still raining so we ducked around the cover in this maintenance alcove and waited it out. My arms were burning from holding the dead weight sleeping 1 year old. Finally we were given the go ahead that all was clear and we could go back in. So we went up those stairs we came down only to find we couldn’t get back in. I really didn’t want to carry Lukas all over creation. I think someone in our party finally just went down and around up the elevator to let us in. We did try knocking/banging on the window but no one could hear us. We later received a message that a child had triggered the alarm and they were handling the situation.
I packed some more things up and then headed to bed at 10:15pm.

Up next…Mike & I go from Marceline to Magic Kingdom
You win "Mommy of the year" for not only having extra clothes with you............but extra shoes too!!!
50's PTC seemed like an excellent time. I have to add that one back onto our list I think. Meatloaf......whatcha you afriad of girl?? I promise you would LOVE mine. Come over, I'll make it for ya
Sorry about the rain and hello......firedrill?? Geez I'd say AKLV is pretty safe since now you have witnessed a lifeguard drill AND firedrill!! But I am sorry about you having to carry Lukas all that time...........I know that's no fun.
