Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 77 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We were in the back too and it's super bumpy, but fun! Love the animal pics! Giraffes and elephants are some of my favorites! I love how close you seem to get.
Trying to get caught back up! I got way behind! I have finished to PTR part and have just started the TR so I've got a ways to go. I love the pictures on the Magical Express!
Finally getting caught up after vacation! I was happy to have so many updates to read.
We were lucky enough to miss that heat wave you experienced last week as we were up north. They were actually experiencing their own heat wave up in MN, but where we were it reached in the 90s only two days and it felt good compared to the 100 degree weather we left behind!
Love the boys haircuts, Dylan looked quite happy with his spikes. And wow, what a great safari! I am never lucky enough to get up close with the giraffes.
Hope's new obsession is giraffes too. She told me the other day she wants me to take her to the zoo and let her pet one. A giraffe, a penguin and a pig...in that order. Looks like you saw a TON of animals! Very jealous since that didn't happen the last time we rode.
Ok, I'm all caught up! Love the boys haircuts! They are so cute! We have never done the haircut at HB. Never thought about it until this last trip and we just never took the time to do. We might have to do that some time but Asher would want the colored gel and confetti. Love the giraffe pictures! Giraffe are our favorite!

Such a great safari! I love all the giraffes! How awesome to have them walking all around. You didn't mention how the changes of taking out the poaching story made the ride so was it no big deal with that gone and the bumpy bridge?
Great timing with practically a walk-on Safari and so many animals out and right beside the road.
We did luck out on this safari.

Thanks Cheryl! It's crazy what a difference there is between the back and front rows.

I can't wait to go back on KS, our last trip to AK was when I was pregnant and I couldn't ride it
I hope Andre gets to see some giraffes next trip. I didn't ride when I was pg with Lukas, but I did with Dylan as it was mid pregnancy - and I did sit in the front then. I figured if the lady with a neck brace in front of me was going to ride I'd be ok too.

I did turn around to get some pictures so that is a benefit to the back.

I did use the zoom a bit for the elephants, but you still get pretty close.

I need to get this done before we leave again.
I'm jealous you got to escape the heat for a bit. We're thinking of coming to KC in the spring - maybe a MLS game and stay at Great Wolf - I'll keep you posted.
And I hope you get to see the giraffes up close some day. They're beautiful animals.

Do you have pigs at the zoo? We have the others, but no pigs. That's too funny.
You did get awesome shots of the animals you did see though.

I hope you get to do the haircut sometime. And I hear that gel is MESSY! I'm glad he didn't want any plus I doubt AKL would'nt have been happy with it in the pool.

I don't remember really. I read in another TR (I think it was Sharon's) that they say something about a rumor that zebras might be moving in.
I love technology! Last night I had a group skype (video chat) with not only Linny(ad), but Dawn (dsteiny23) and Melissa (honeybee723) too! It was great to finally 'meet' Dawn & Melissa. This was such fun and we again talked for about 2 hours. It was decided I need to move to the East Coast so I'd be closer to all of them.
We decided to head to Dinoland via the long way around past EE. We saw Divine, Baloo, and King Louie going backstage, but it was a nice that we at least got to see them for just a second.
Posing until the last minute.
Right after passing them by we decided to stop for a PP pic as there was no wait – just the family they were currently shooting. We got a good one here and he did several poses with us.
After our mini photo shoot we decided to continue on to Dinoland. As we were passing Nemo they were letting people into the theater with no line/wait so we decided to head on in after parking the stroller down the hill. I didn’t realize we’d have a half hour wait, but it wasn’t bad. We saw the first show of the day at 11am and had our choice of seats. We chose to sit in the upper middle section in the second row. Dylan had to go potty just before the show was to start and I was afraid they wouldn’t make it back, but they did and then the show started. I love this show! And Mike did a nice thing during. The guy in front of us had his wallet fall out of his pocket, which Mike saw and then handed back to him.
After Nemo we finally made it to Dinoland and picked up FPs for Dinosaur. We were also hungry and since Heather gives Restaurantosaurus such good reviews I decided we should eat there and then our FP window would almost be open. We all went in to look at the menu then Mike went outside with the boys while I placed out order. Yes, we sat outside. It was actually a nice day and there was no one out there so I figured the boys could run around a bit if need be. Mike went with the cheeseburger and then I added topping from the toppings bar to it (can’t remember what but they have a pretty good selection), the boys shared a cheeseburger with fries & grapes (which came in a bucket with shovel), and I had the shrimp po boy. The food was excellent. I gave it 2 thumbs up. And a bonus for us was that I could use our TiW card. Also, while checking out we made our first donation to the Conservation Fund in memory of Stefanie. My goal was to donate at every place that we could on the trip. I remember doing it here because I told the CM taking my order that I wanted to donate before she even had the chance to ask me and she commented that that doesn’t happen very often.
After our bellies were full it wasn’t quite time for our Dinosaur FPs so we took a spin on Triceratops Spin.
And then it was time for Dinosaur. Dylan rode this last trip (September 2011) and was fine with it. This trip that wasn’t the case. He didn’t like it at all. Last trip I had put ear plugs in and I didn’t this time, which I think was the key factor. Mike & Lukas were waiting in the gift shop for us after our return. Originally we were going to baby swap so Dylan could ride twice but after the first ride he wasn’t going on. Mike just went and rode by himself because the line wasn’t too long. The boys & I played in the gift shop a little while longer and then I took them outside to run around near the benches. Once Mike got back we decided it was time for a break and headed for the bus stop.
Once back we had our usual afternoon break where Lukas napped, Mike & Dylan went to the pool, and I had a glass of wine.

What a cool PP "meet"! I bet it was easier to have a face to face conversation. You will definitely have to let me know if you make it to KC in the Spring, that way we can meet before you move off to the East coast. The boys will love GWL and you will love the shopping at Legend's.
Nice time so far in AK! Can't believe you got into Nemo without a wait or long line! for donating again in memory of Stefanie! She never liked Dinosaur either and I'm pretty sure Morgan thought it wasn't too good either.
