Cheaper by the Dozen – Lukas’ 1st Birthday Extravaganza! - Page 77 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So sorry your day didn't go as planned. Sometimes we try to have these perfect moments but it's really out of our hands. But at least Lukas looks happy and that's what counts.
Oh sorry sorry your day didn't go well Kelly. Thankfully Lukas won't remember it. I can't believe no one offered you a seat on the bus - seriously what is wrong with people.
Oh so sorry you felt the stress. When I have planned trips for our parents I know I get stressed and feel pressure. It's no fun. So sorry it all got to you.
I hate when people don't give up their bus seats. What is wrong with people?
I did like the cake. Really, really cute. Did it taste as good as it looked?
Just caught up again.. Sorry that the day did not go so well for you. I know you were looking forward to a Special day for Lukas. Love the pictures of the boys and Lukas does look like he wanted no part of the characters. I chuckled at the looks he was giving them. But he sure did look like he was ready to cozy up to his birthday cake. I love chocolate smiles Hope there were better days ahead and more fun thanever to be had
Oh yea, Lukas loves his food!

You're absolutely right. He had fun and that is all that matters.

The cake was delicious! We wnjoyed it over the next few days. It says it will feed 12 - we had 12 eating that cake and still had half leftover.
I got up at 6:30am to wake Dylan up and get him dressed so he could go with my parents and brother on the Sunrise Safari. They had to meet at 7am and the bus was leaving promptly at 7:30am. They had some snacks in the lounge. I’m not sure if they had stuff out already or we had extras, but I know they ate something as evidenced here:
They didn’t share too much with me about the safari but I’m assuming they enjoyed it. I mean how could you not? Mike, Becki, Dylan & I had done it in June 2009 (which is why we didn’t go this time) and it was amazing! Here are pictures Kevin took of the safari:
I this one. I got it as an 8x10 ans is in our AK themed bedroom.
Meanwhile…I went back to bed for about an hour once the Sunrise crew left. One awake I did some laundry and started packing up stuff we didn’t need anymore. Isn’t that sad?! L I left about 8:45am for my massage and Mike took Lukas to see his parents. I’m not sure what Becki did??? Maybe she slept in. Originally I had scheduled my massage for Tuesday but they were doing some construction to the fitness area so I was moved to Thursday. I had to go in the ‘back entrance’ but it was easy to find. I was greeted by Piper (a woman) who would be doing my massage. She took me to the room, gave me some information and then left me to undress and then cover up. This was my first massage and I really enjoyed it. It was very relaxing – just what I needed after the past few days. I didn’t have to attend to anyone and it was silent. Ah! Bliss! All too soon it was over. L But I was nice & refreshed. I was given some water and told me keep hydrated to ward off headaches today. I paid, got my DVC discount and went back to the room for more laundry, packing, and getting ready for the day.
The Sunrise Safari crew came back around 10:30am and we all got our things and headed out to Downtown Disney. First up – lunch! We were starving! Well those of us that didn’t get to enjoy the breakfast buffet after the safari. We finally tired Earl of Sandwich. So good! We will be back here! After lunch, Kevin & Becki wandered off on their own. Dylan rode the little carousel while we sat nearby finishing up. Then we went to Once Upon a Toy where it took some dragging to get Dylan out. Then we walked all the way to D-Street so Mike could check out the Vinylmations. It was a really neat store. He ended up getting the Lighnting McQueen & Mater set, which Dylan claimed LM as his. The CM working gave Dylan a blank vinlymation (paper) to color and I did one too. This was a nice thing to have in the store for the kids. But again (Melissa) it was Sharpies they colored with. While we were in the store Mom & Dad decided to head back to the room and they took Lukas with them. We kept the stroller & Dylan. Next up the boys (Mike, Dylan & FiL) checked out the lego store while my MiL & I went in Basin. I ended up getting a few things for my cousin who was house and dog sitting for us plus the spot remover bar for myself. I asked about a discount and they said: AAA, AP, DVC. I said I have all those, which is the best? And now I can’t remember which was the best. And to end this to DtD trip of course we had to visit the World of Disney. I don’t think we got much in here. I know I got a 2011 scrapbook and an ornament. I had the 40th anniversary ears too but my in-laws took those from me and paid for them.
Dylan had to stop at every photo opportunity while in DtD.
I think he's 'flying' his sunglasses here.
And shaking Woody's hand.
Oh yes, something else we got - that HUGE sucker!
It was nearing our 4:35pm ADR time at DHS so we headed to the buses. It had started to rain so we got out the ponchos before leaving WoD and decided to head to the Swan and then walk to DHS from there – it was actually pretty fast.
Up next…50s PTC doesn’t disappoint and we’re at DHS so of course it’s going to rain!

Now, THAT's the way to start the day... a nice, relaxing, quiet massage. The rest of the day so far sounds wonderful. Kevin got some amazing photos on the safari! That giraffe close-up is fantastic, and he even got the new baby mandrill, who is very hard to spot.

How nice you got to sleep in! The pictures are amazing. Nothing like that early morning sunlight. Looks like the animals were active. Do you have pictures to share of your AK themed bedroom?? Would love to see!
Was that your first time at EoS? It is very good, isn't it? What did you order?
First of all, you know I that giraffe picture, too. I bet it looks terrific in your AK room! Just precious! Glad the massage was so good, too. I've never had one, but I'm always tempted to when we stay at WDW. Great pictures at DTD!
This is sounding like a pretty perfect day
So glad the massage went well. Bad thing now is you are always going to want one......well wait, that's not really a bad thing as I see it!!
I love kicking around Downtown Disney, I think just really because I LOVE EoS!! But I really do need to explore more of the shops. I have never been in Once Upon a Toy. Must fix that this Sept!
I'm gonna have to remember about using the AAA for discounts there. Good info
