Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Even with the distance between you and the castle, you still were able to get some great photos of the fireworks. I thought I would miss Wishes too Dave but this new show was really tremendous and when you watch it in front of the castle, the images they put up will take your breath away!

Glad you enjoyed them! It didn't quite yet as a bit of a hint in my next teaser! So many would be staying for EMHs. Just hoping it works out for me later!

I think my location worked out well for me for a good view of the show and photos! Couldn't see the castle well, but that was the trade off not being in with a big crowd! Hoping to see the castle closer next time and find a good location that isn't too crowded for a decent view.

Perhaps, The Perfect Way to Beat the Crowds!

Wednesday, October 11th (Part VIII)
After experiencing the HEA Fireworks show for the first time, I began to leave Frontierland and headed towards Fantasyland.

When I arrived in Fantasyland, I saw that Peter Pan had a 60 minute wait. It wasn’t as bad as this afternoon but longer than I’d wait. It’s an enjoyable ride but not one I’d wait more than 20 minutes for as not one of my favorites.

One ride I had never been on and decided to give it a go was the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. Although, mostly for young kids, I decided, why not! The wait wasn’t that long either. I think I waited ten minutes at most.

View on the ride from my horse

My horse

It was an enjoyable ride and I can’t tell you the last time I was on a carrousel ride. It’s been many years. Now it was on to one more attraction before going to Tomorrowland and Space Mountain.

This was another attraction I’d never experienced in my many trips to WDW. The wait time was only 15 minutes and I was fine with that. The ride was fine, although nothing exceptional but enjoyable. It reminds me of the Cat in the Hat attraction at Universal. Just in a spinning car and going through the various rooms with lots of Pooh theming and elements in there.

I began to head towards Tomorrowland after the attraction. First I got a few photos of the castle all lit up from the rear as it’s usually the front side I take photos of as usually more convenient.

So, beautiful, whether from the front or back!

Walking through the castle tunnel with Main Street USA in view on the other side

Once, I exited the castle I walked towards Tomorrowland in the hopes the standby times wouldn’t be too long. I had a feeling they just might be with EMHs just beginning and the long wait there was for Peter Pan. When I arrived at Space Mountain, the wait was 80 minutes! Too long for me to wait and I’d just return later before the Magic Kingdom closes, which isn’t until 2 am. It was now around 10:15 pm or so. There was plenty of time to experience more.

Most of the popular attractions had long waits and then I thought of something to do. It was perhaps, the perfect way to beat the crowds! I left Tomorrowland and headed in the direction of Main Street USA and soon after, the park exit.

The solution was two-fold. First a ride on the monorail and to the Grand Floridian with some time at Mizner’s Lounge which I enjoy so much! It would be a good way to get away from the crowds as well as relax in an air-conditioned room. It was a no loss situation!

I walked up to the resort monorail station and there were many people waiting for the monorail. But, it wasn’t a huge line and I was able to get on the first monorail. It was a relaxing ride and most of the guests got off at the Ticket and Transportation Center, which I figured would be the case. Shortly, I arrived at the Grand Floridian around 10:45 pm and walked through the upper floor of the hotel to Mizner’s.

It wasn’t that crowded here, but there were several people sitting up at the bar. Sheila was working tonight and remembered me from a few nights ago. Last Friday to be exact. I ordered a sauvignon blanc and just relaxed for a while. I talked with a guy who is a CM over at the Poly. I think he is a head server at Kona Café as he mentioned he was a supervisor of several CMs. We talked about Disney and a lot of the eateries throughout WDW and mentioned a lot of his favorites. I inquired mostly about many of the new eateries in Disney Springs I have yet to try. He has enjoyed Morimoto, Frontera Cocina and The Boathouse. Those are his favorites so far. I have dined at the first two on my last trip (which I enjoyed very much) and will try the Boathouse eventually.

It was quite nice in Mizner’s as I got away from the crowds for a while. The air-conditioned lounge was quite a welcomed feeling as even though it was late in the evening, it was still quite muggy out. Kind of expected the first couple of weeks or so in October.

Once, I settled my bill with Sheila I headed for the monorail with a return to the MK for the remaining EMHs. I was the only one waiting for the monorail and one arrived in just a couple of minutes. In no time, I arrived back at the MK and when I departed the monorail, it was quite crowded in the station as many were leaving the MK on the resort line. I then took the walkway down to enter the MK and hoping I’d have better luck with the attractions with minimal waits.

It doesn’t look overly crowded but I will find out shortly for sure!

Unfortunately, the above would be my last photo as my phone ran out of gas! It was 95% charged when I arrived at the MK in the afternoon, but the HEA fireworks show took its’ toll on it with so many photos as you saw in the last couple of updates. I deleted quite a few, so you have an idea of how many I took.

The lines were short or almost non-existent entering the MK and so different than a few hours ago. Walking down Main Street USA was much easier without the crowds and I headed towards Tomorrowland and Space Mountain, in the hopes the standby times would not be too bad.

I arrived in Tomorrowland and made the walk over to Space Mountain. I checked the standby wait time and it was at 40 minutes. Not what I was hoping, but also guessing it would probably be much less as the time passed and got closer to park closing. You need to consider when it was last updated as it may have been a while.

I entered the queue area and I walked freely almost to the top of the attraction. The line moved well and I was in my space vehicle within 15 minutes. So, not exactly a 40 minute wait. Another good ride as always. After this, I immediately reentered the attraction for another ride. The lines got shorter and many times I was on the attraction within ten minutes or less. There were still many riding this so late at night. Why not, when the lines are this short! Eventually they closed the right side queue and just used the left side.

This process kept repeating for me over the next two hours until park closing. I did take a couple of short breaks but otherwise I was just enjoying this attraction as many times as possible! I probably got 8-10 rides in. No complaints on my end! I never tire of this attraction! I even closed it down as I was on the last ride for the night!!!

Once they closed Space Mountain, I headed towards the park exit via Main Street USA. I watched the closing ceremony from here with some great music and saw the lighting on the castle dim to darkness! I wish I could have gotten a few photos of this, but what are you going to do! There were several people watching this but for the most part, there weren’t a lot of guests in the area. Very strange to see Main Street USA so empty.

I then exited the park and walked to the bus depot with a return to the Dolphin. I was quite happy that there was a bus waiting. We waited about 5 minutes for other guests to board and then we began the trip back to the resort. There were about 20 of us on the bus. I was very tired as it was after 2 am and I almost fell asleep but didn’t as I didn’t want to miss my stop. We stopped at the Beach and Yacht Club resorts and then the Swan before arriving at the Dolphin around 2:45 am.

I was so exhausted and couldn’t wait to go to bed. I got some things ready for the morning and did other things before calling it a night. It was a long and active day, but a great one that I enjoyed so much!

What a great evening! How fun that you rode the carousel. Great idea about leaving the park and taking the monorail to GF for a glass of wine.

Smart move to take a break at Mizner's and then return to the MK. You definitely got to enjoy Space Mountain on your return.
