As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

How great that you all were able to enter a low crowd day at MK on Easter! I'm not sure this is a factor, but Easter fell at the end of many school spring breaks this year. So folks would have had to head home for kids to start school on Monday.

Sunday 24 April – part five: so that’s how it stretches!
As we rounded the corner into Fantasyland proper, who do we see but Pooh and Eeyore? There was a long, long line for them (about the longest we’d seen so far actually...) and there was no way I was going to better what had happened earlier, so we didn’t bother getting in line for them.
Instead, we headed on to the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. This was showing a 30 minute wait, so it was busy, but not crazy busy. :
Once we’d been on a spin around the Hundred Acre Wood, we wandered through more of Fantasyland and made it to Mickey’s PhilharMagic, just as one show was seating. My goodness, we were lucky to get in there though, as the people in front of us did not exactly shake a leg to get in there! We hadn’t seen this all trip and I’m glad we did, as it’s so much fun. I’m just amazed that it doesn’t get more lines. I hope that’s not a sign that it will change in the future, but I doubt it, considering it’s now in Hong Kong Disneyland and is being introduced into Tokyo Disney as well.
We finally made it into Liberty Square, seeing that the wait time for Peter Pan’s Flight was 55 minutes. Again, busy, but not stupid, as on most days it seems to be between 30 and 45 minutes.
We headed for the Haunted Mansion, as we’d enjoyed it so much and walked through the new interactive queue. I’m sure in time we’ll bypass it, but right now, it’s new and fun and there to be enjoyed!
We had the weirdest experience in the stretching room. The doors into the room did not close until we were almost there, so we now know which way it stretches... It was very strange and I suspect that stretching room got taken out of service straight after we’d been in it, as we heard a Cast Member tell another Cast Member that it had just broken down.
The rest of our tour around the 999 happy haunts went fine and we loved the hitch-hiking ghosts just as much as the first time we saw them. They are such a good addition.
We walked slowly out of the Magic Kingdom, almost falling over Photopass photographers everywhere we went and getting more and more photos. I’d hate to be them today, as they must’ve been pretty bored, with very little custom.
We also took various shots of the park as we headed out.
When we got to Town Square, we saw that the wait to see Mickey and friends was just five minutes Well we couldn’t pass that up : so in we went.
We probably waited a little bit longer, as Mickey obviously needed a cheese break, but once we were in, we saw him and Minnie. Minnie saw my DVC member card and gave me the thumbs up.
Once we’d seen them, we headed out of the park. We couldn’t believe our luck and how quiet it had been in there. :
Sounds like a great day. We went to the MK one year on Easter and while it was fine in the morning, it got insane by 1 PM and we left.
I remember reading when Philharmagic first opened that it was designed to be a large capacity, little wait attraction to ease some of the waits and crowding in Fantasy Land. I suspect that's why I always get a "bonus fastpass" for it.
Caught up again. Can't believe the lack of people, but it sure was a stroke of luck for the two of you!

If you did not have the pictures to prove it, I would never have believed how uncrowded MK was on Easter weekend! So happy that you had such low crowds!

Interesting on both points. Sounds like Easter Day is quite often quiet until lunchtime.

I'm so happy for you that you got a few more hours in at the MK with low crowds!!! I've been there Easter week and I swore I'd never go back that week because the crowd level was so crazy. What a nice way to end your trip with Minnie and Mickey too!!! I'm sad your TR is coming to a close but I know you're going to be leaving for your next trip soon!
