As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ouch - that toe sounds painful! Another great update - you've certainly prepared me for Goofy's Kitchen. At least now I know what to expect. It looks like there are loads of characters there - I'm not surprised you didn't get to see them all.

Excellent update, Dawn! Sorry you had a bad spot at Goofy's Kitchen, but it seems like you still had a lot of characters come by. Sorry about your toe! Hope it doesn't keep you from enjoying the parks!

Re: Heading West to the \"Original\": Day 4, Part 1: Will The Gimp Survive???
Day 4, Part 1: Will the gimp survive?
We wake up before the alarm again, and my first bit of business is to check out the toe. All I have is one question: How much blood can one pinky toe let go of? We carefully take off the bandage and examine the injury. Chuck does his best to clean it up but it is hard as I have extremely ticklish feet. He gives up and hands me all the bandages. I come up with a new approach to the whole process that I think would benefit me throughout the day. I finish getting dressed and now have the painful task of putting on my tennis shoe. I get it on without too much effort but let me tell you, my foot looks about three sizes bigger.
Judy and Allan are waiting for us, and we make our way to the park. I am not limping so I am feeling pretty good. We decide to go to DL first since we want to ride the Matterhorn first. The line was outrageous on Wednesday so we plan to make our way there immediately. As we entered Main Street, Judy sees Mary Poppins and Bert and goes running. She loves Mary Poppins so she is really excited about this meet.
I also grab some pictures of Main Street while we are waiting. I am disappointed though that I do not get a picture of the fire station as that was on of my must have shots. (See how I am coming up with a list of excuses to go back.) I do get City Hall and the Opera House.
After our little character stop, we make our way down Main Street and head straight for the Matterhorn. The line isn’t too bad and since it is a DL exclusive, we really wanted to ride it. We are not in the line for more than 10 minutes and we are ushered into our bobsled. Each couple gets their own bobsled, and off we go. I really enjoy the ride. I do not get my seatbelt tight enough though. I am sliding all over the bobsled. After barely escaping the DL “Yeti”, we try and decide our next course of action. Allan wants to ride the train for the whole circuit, so we go ahead and catch it at the Toontown station. I grab some pictures of the area and the train. Allan gets a group shot of us.
Allan really enjoys trains as he is taking pictures by the second and is smiling the whole time. Hey, if it makes him happy, we are all happy. We do get off at New Orleans Square instead of going back to Toontown as Splash Mountain is calling our name. We grab some fast passes and then stop for some churros and water. I grab some pictures of the area while I am waiting for everyone to return.
We all enjoy our churros but Chuck is refusing to drink water. I do not know why. He just decides to not drink anything. (Remember this for later). Our fast pass window is an hour and a half off, so we head over to Frontierland to check out Big Thunder. We make our way over and decide to go stand-by as it is only listed at 25 minutes. Allan is a little hesitant, but chuck and I reassure him that this is a pretty easy coaster and he will do fine.
I really like the queue for this ride as you can tell by the pictures. We finally get up to board and we are off on the wildest ride in the wilderness. Chuck and I go hands up for the ride while Judy and Allan look at us like we are nuts. Who cares!! We get thumbs up from everyone, including Allan as we get off the ride, and now, it’s time to backtrack back over to Critter Country for our FP for Splash.
Allan is not too keen on getting wet, so we already decided that he would be in the back. We get our seating order figured out and wait less than 5 minutes to get in our log. A mother/daughter combo are sitting in the first two seats, with Chuck and I following, and Allan and Judy bringing up the rear. I am just singing along and have a good ‘ole time. We hit the drop and the mother/daughter combo in front us get completely soaked. My shoes get wet which means we are going to have to make a stop to check out the toe. Just about as we are getting ready to enter the final scene our boat stops. I grab some shots of the area as we are stopped for about 5 minutes.
Nothing to interesting but hey, we were stopped and I needed something to occupy my time. We finish up and go take a look at our picture. I am really hoping it’s a good one as I have a great scrapbook layout I want to use. We are watching, and we see the boat that was in front of us, then the “You’re Photo’s Been Washed Away” and then the boat behind us. As a joke, we blamed Allan for flipping off the camera. We have no idea why, but our picture was gone. L At this point, we are all a little hungry and decide to head to the Hungry Bear Restaurant there in Critter Country by the Rivers of America. Of course, we hit the main eating time around 12:30 so I go in search of a table while everyone else gets food. I hand money to Chuck and off I go. I get a nicely secluded table overlooking the river. I wait, and I wait, and I wait. About 20 minutes later, Chuck turns the corner with a very disgusted look on his face. He sits down and states that he hates counter service. I take it as him being grouchy due to being hungry and we begin to eat. Judy and Allan join us in a few. We just enjoy the scenery and the burgers and fries. Chuck complains of being dehydrated and I tell him he needs to drink more fluids but he refuses. (The result of him not drinking is coming!) After we finish up eating, the rest of the group heads for the smoking area and I head to the bathroom so I can check out the toe situation.
Toe check goes okay. I put some fresh bandages on it and off I go. I’m not going to lie to you. The pain is beginning to be a little powerful but I absolutely REFUSE to let it stop me. There is so much more to see. I meet up with everyone else and we decide to just take a leisurely walk through DL. We have hit the major attractions and we just want to enjoy the surroundings. As we make our way through Frontierland again, Brer Bear literally attacks the in-laws. He scares them to death and you can tell they are laughing pretty hard in the picture. We also run into Pocahontas along the way. Another first for me!!
Now all of the sudden I see Judy taking off in a hurry. I have no idea what is going on. Allan and Chuck run to catch up as I maneuver myself up that way in a not so quick mosey. Apparently, Judy had seen Woody and was bound a determined to catch up with him before he went away. I have a good laugh over that one. I now have my mother-in-law chasing after characters. She says it is because I am injured but I think she is really getting into the experience myself. Unfortunately she does not catch him, but she wants to wait a couple of minutes to see if he returns.
I decide since we are sitting here waiting that I might as well get a drink. I get a bottle of water and come back and offer it to my disgruntled looking husband. I finally ask him what his problem is. He tells me he is dehydrated and is cramping really bad. Well, I figured that one out about 4 hours ago. I go get another bottle of water and he downs it in about 3 minutes. I let him finish off mine as well. I know a bathroom stop is inevitable but hopefully it will help!
After waiting about 10 minutes, we decide to make our way through Fantasyland. I tell the group that I want to stake out a seat for the 3:15 parade around 2:15-2:30 and they think I am insane. I tell them I will sit in the spot and they can go wandering around some more but they try to convince me that we can just go sit down about 10 minutes before the parade. I stick to my guns and Chuck says he will talk to them.

I'm thinking that was subliminally intentional, Dawn

I'm glad your toe didn't stop you from exploring Disneyland - but it sounds like Chuck nearly ended up in real problems through not drinking.
Sorry about your Splash Mountain photo - that's so annoying, especially when you know that you could do a great scrapbooking layout with it.
