Living the dream and remembering the Bagman COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I always enjoy seeing your pictures when you travel first class as it's just such a luxury The drinks were a great way to kick off the trip and the food looked wonderful! Watching a movie does make the time go so much quicker on a plane but flying first class would make me want to slow down the experience some what!!!
My gosh! What a meal! That's a far cry from the pretzels and soda I'm used to. Of course, on our overseas flights we've had a bit better, but nothing like what you got.

This is just fantastic. I'm loving all the details! Definitely the way to travel for long distances. Good for you - I'm glad you're taking advantage of the drinks! That's what it's there for. Bummer you didn't have much to see with all the cloud cover, but you're being well taken care of so I guess that doesn't matter too much anyway.

That's why I always recommend Virgin Atlantic. Ok, so you don't get quite that food in economy, but it's still good (so I hear ) compared to many other airlines.
That sure looks like the way to travel! Where did the flight attendant find you the mozzarella salad after saying it was off the menu?
She found another passenger willing to give it up - apparently as they were higher ranked than us on points, they got the option of taking the points for no salad being available before we did. Boo....

What a pleasant meal - especially considering you're on a plane!! Too bad about the miles, though. Heck, I'd give up the whole meal if the number was right!

Saturday 10 September – part four: I never sleep properly on a plane…
After we were done with lunch, we both asked for our seats to be turned into beds – go to love this! I am so sorry I didn’t get a photo of the seat as a bed, I had put the camera underneath to allow her to do it, and if I’m honest, I was desperate to get some sleep. I went to sleep at 11:45am EST, thinking “I’ll just doze at best”, as despite having a bed, I never properly sleep. Wow, I was wrong this trip!
I slept properly, and I know this, because the irritating problem with numbness in my hands recurred, first in the left, so I moved, then shortly later in the right. Ugh! On both occasions, I had to wake myself up (I can feel it happening and it does wake me up) and move to stop it. I ended up asking our stewardess if it could be noted for our return trip that I require an extra pillow, as I figured that might do the trick.
We also had two bouts of turbulence during that time. During the first, I just went straight back to sleep again, but during the second – ugh! When the announcement first came that the captain had put the seatbelt sign on, I was a bit like “what?” and I heard someone else ask the crew why, as it was calm as anything. However, he knew what he was doing, as about three or four minutes later, we did hit turbulence. I knew I wasn’t going to go back to sleep after that, and I put my glasses back on, and ended up lying there, wondering if we’d ever be able to get the beds back to seats. At one point, I saw a crew member walking up the cabin, clinging on to the overhead lockers, so as not to fall, that’s how severe it was.
Thankfully, it did subside, maybe 10-15 minutes, but the seatbelt light stayed on. By now, we were both desperate for a restroom visit, so we spoke to the stewardess about it, and of course got the typical line that she couldn’t tell us we could get up and about. About a minute later, the sign finally went off, and you can guess where we went…
We were then served afternoon tea…
… although I had a close call. I said I didn’t eat meat, and I ended up with salmon, which I took a bite of, but thankfully looked at the other one and realised it was meat before I bit into it. I very quickly had some veggie options appear. However, it was definitely a case of “eyes bigger than belly”, as there was no way I could eat all of this. I was absolutely stuffed. Far too much food!
By now, we were flying over Canada, and I managed to get a couple of shots of the view below…
I also managed to get some shots over Maine, including the coastline, although it was still quite cloudy…
Unfortunately then we were back into the clouds, and we saw nothing again until we were close to Boston, which was a shame…
We had been told that the Boston skyline would be clearly visible before we came into land on the right hand side of the plane. Can you guess which side of the plane we were on? Yup, you got it… left! However, I didn’t do badly just as we literally came into land…
There were even two cruise ships in port…
It was quite funny, as Mark pointed them out to me later in the taxi, and I was like “yep, I know – I took a photo of them from the plane!”
Finally we were on the ground, although we taxied for some time, as you do at all major airports these days, so I took the opportunity to get some more shots…
Awesome that you were able to sleep! I know you struggle with that. (me too, mind you I've yet to try it in first class.... )
I love that you got afternoon tea!! That's so cool. Looked delicious too!
Great shots of Boston - with that nap on the plane, I'm thinking you weren't too tired yet?
