The 'This Trip Keeps Getting Longer' Trip: PTR - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I ate at Bluezoo as well and loved it!! . That was a nice addition. And as far as recommendations, the food is delicious there but see what your stomach can handle.

related: i have my 6 month follow up scan four days before this trip begins. i'm thinking of moving it up so that i definitely have my results before WDW. that or moving it back. i can't decide. because if it's good, we can celebrate. but if its not...? thoughts on this? you'd be the one to ask, i suppose.
I think it kind of depends...if you're going to worry excessively about either the results, or the fact that you have to do the scans when you get back (if you delay), and think that worry will impact your trip, I say bump it up.
Will they only give results in person (that's our requirement)? Because another option would be to see if they can call you with results. We will sometimes call with benign results if we know someone was really worried, and isn't coming in for a few days still.
Because as you know, if results are good, you'll have a lot to celebrate, but in the tiny chance of them not being what you want, how would that impact the trip?
Sorry I don't have a clear easy answer for you! As I tell my patients, my job would be a LOT easier if I had both a magic wand and a crystal ball.
Nice snag on Bluezoo ADR. As to results of your scan all I can think of is the sage advice my me mentor once gave me when I received some very upsetting news. "That MAY happen! But it is not happening TODAY. Deal with things you CAN today and wait for tomorrow and deal with what comes then.

my stomach can handle everything and nothing. i've not found a single thing that makes it worse--or better. so i just eat what i want, knowing that it may make me sick. i've had a cracker and been sick. i've had curry and been fine. it's insane. but i guess the silver lining is: i can (currently) eat anything. though i do have some...what's the word? things that i connect with pain. and i also struggle with never being hungry for anything (terrible, right? i believe i wished for that most of my fat life.)

note to self: get colleen a crystal ball.
i will call tomorrow and bump it up. and no, they won't give me results over the phone. but my surgical oncologist (my now primary doc) was always good at fitting me in based on my needs. so i will call and fix the dates. i have other questions for them (like 'why do i get sick every time i eat') so calling is good. thanks.

that is VERY wise advice. i so wish i could live by it. i'm trying.
tiny mini update: we now have an ADR at homecoming in disney springs on our third night. because i'm a huge top chef fan and also because our heather (i keep calling her that as many of you know her) had dinner there the other night and i saw her pics and NEEDED the deviled eggs and fried chicken. also, we are staying at OKW and thus want to take advantage of proximity to DS.
which brings me to my new question: boat or drive to DS from OKW?

When I saw Heather's picture of those deviled eggs, I was ready to book a flight! YUM!
I say boat, only because I the boat ride from OKW or SSR to DS.

i realize that's kind of a silly question, but i'm SO IMPATIENT. like seriously, whatever you are picturing as 'so impatient'--it's worse than that. so i don't want to have to, like, sit there and wait for a boat for forever. i will try it though, as it does sound more relaxing. and i will report back.
Congrats on the ADR as it looks like a great addition to DS!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
so in a different thread--one in the plans for WDW forum--i asked about which special event to add. i was considering MNSSHP, the swolphin food and wine fest, a day at universal, or club villian. i landed on MNSSHP as the thing i wanted to do. and then i found out about the cost of a car rental and was like: never mind. we can't afford to do extra things.
and then i thought about it, and budgeted, and generally did math. and i came up with a guideline: if i managed to get at least 2 additional days of work between now and our trip, i'd splurge on the halloween party.
i decided that last week.
since then, i got two additional days last week, two additional days THIS week, and a super last minute additional day next week. it should be noted that when i'm asked to work, it's not like 'oh can you show up tomorrow at noon?' it's more like 'oh, can you fly to random town in kentucky tomorrow' i was also asked to do work for two other organizations i've worked with in the past, and now have scary deadlines during this same time period.
so basically--i asked the universe for work and the universe was like OH YEAH? IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?!?
so yeah. that happened.
i'm happy because work is good. and because at least i'm working towards something fun, and have a fun-thing on the horizon. i think i've decided that i always need to have a disney trip in the works, so as to have something non-stressful yet joyful to look forward to. but all of that being said: i think i'm not going to splurge on any of those extra experiences. because right now, the idea of spending our last two days just being at AKL? that sounds pretty great to me.
First of all, congrats on the Homecoming ADR. I also saw Heather's Facebook post and decided to check for an ADR but no luck for this Saturday for a party of 6. We'll take the boat from OKW to DS this Saturday evening as it is so calming and pretty, but we'll be trying one of the new counter service places instead.
The more Luke and I got to WDW the more we treasure relaxing and spending time at the resort and AKL is my favorite. So I like your idea of just spoiling yourselves at the resort.
