Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I like the overnight bag, too. But I have a whole line of the travel bags in Baroque, so I hate to start another set, except that Plum's Up has Mickey and Minnie.

As usual - I love your shopping! And ice cream for lunch is just fine - in Disney. Chuck and I hit Ghirrardelli's once for breakfast! I'm with you too on the cell phone stance. I don't get it. You are at DISNEYWORLD! What could be so much more interesting on your cell phone?

Enjoying this so far, and glad your internal workings sorted themselves out! I suffer from IBS and sometimes if I pick up a viral infection, it can take weeks to sort itself out. Ugh.

Wow on the Pandora clasp opener - I didn't know that existed! The number of fingernails I have broken trying to pry open my clasp without damaging it! I managed to find a UK supplier and have just ordered one, phew. It's so pretty! Thank you for drawing our attention to it.

I love that you drive to WDW, it makes for a more interesting trip report, although the price it costs you to fill up your car is incredible - if you were in the UK, that would have cost you around $73 each time!

Love your report so far...

Glad your tummy issues then and other issues now are tapering off.

I have never heard of the daisy tool. My DD and I both have Pandora Bracelets and are in need of that! Don't want to ruin my nails/manicure either!

Can't wait to read the rest.

Thank you for posting your reports. Makes my wait to go back easier.

Ghirardelli's sounds perfect for breakfast to this chocolate-loving girl.

I'll admit I was checking the side mirror for any crazy fast trucks in case Luke needed warning.

My DSiL who also has a Pandora bracelet mentioned to me before the trip that she has bought so many charms from a local jeweler that he recently gave her the Daisy. So I decided I needed one, too, as I hate messing up my nails.

Day #2 – Monday, May 9, 2016 Part 2

Finishing up at Uptown Jewelers, we were nearing the groovy time for our first FastPass+ for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We knew the passes would be ready right about the time we made it back to Frontierland, so we headed off in that direction. From the FastPass+ line, this a nearly a walk on as we didn’t slow down until we reached the downward ramp, but we never actually stopped until we were waiting our turn at the gate. I strapped the camera around my neck and then just randomly shot photos for the first portion of the ride. I wanted some photos to use for a scrapbook spread that will use a border from the border swap. I couldn’t keep it up because this ride really does sling me all over the seat.

Afterwards, we both were feeling rather warm and I could tell Luke needed a break. He was doing quite well after his appendectomy, but we had been going much longer and harder than he had been doing over the past week and a half. Down time would be groovy right about now. Once off BTMMR, we made our way to Pecos Bill’s for some liquid refreshment and a seat in the air conditioning. Luke got a large Diet Coke and I had a regular lemonade. I lemonade all year, but it is especially refreshing in the summer. I used to be teased because as a southern girl I prefer lemonade over ice tea. Actually, I can’t stand ice tea. But I digress. I’m pretty sure, we sat for a good 20 minutes, which seemed to revive us both. We also took advantage of the restrooms near Pecos Bill’s before making our way to the next attraction, Pirates of the Caribbean.

Who knew Pecos Bill's was so well themed? We'd never sat in this area. Our little table was right next to the fountain. Very calming and peaceful at this time in the afternoon.

We didn’t have FastPasses for Pirates, but the standby time was posted at 15 minutes. But I don’t think it took nearly that long as we walked and walked before stopping right before the boat boarding area. While trekking through the queue, I received a text that our room was ready. We talked about whether to go back or not. Ultimately, we decided that it was close to our second FastPass+ and our dinner reservation, so for now we’d stay at the park. We had the sweetest family who boarded in the two seats in front of us. Their two cute little boys were right in front of Luke and me. They stuck close to their dad in anticipation of the ride. They really made it so much more exciting as they marveled at everything. At the end of the ride when our boat was stopped in front of Jack Sparrow and all the treasure, one of them kept exclaiming, “He is real, isn’t he?”

From PotC, we continued in Adventureland to Jungle Cruise. The standby time was 30 minutes, but Luke felt that was doable. We hadn’t been in line long when an announcement was made that the wait had increased to “indefinitely” as there was some kind of problem. Guests were invited to leave if they felt they couldn’t wait. After that the line shortened drastically, moving us fairly close to the front of the line. Only 10 – 15 minutes later the ride was up and running again, and we were off to explore the rivers and jungles of the world.

Afterwards, it was time for another bathroom break at the big ones in Adventureland. Then we browsed the Sunglass Hut as Luke has been looking for a new pair and wanted to see what different ones looked like on him. He found a couple he liked, but no purchase. This will actually be the first of quite a few sunglass shops we browse.

Since we were nearby, I wanted to take a few photos of the exterior of Skipper Canteen because at the moment there weren’t many people milling about in front of it. One of the CMs at the podium kept waving as I took photos, but unbeknownst to her, she was in the dark and not really visible in my photos. I did wave back at her though.

Finished with those photos, Luke noted that right behind us was the Swiss Family Tree House, and he suggested we make the climb. My health insurance incentive program gives me credits for climbing stairs. So guess what I groovy thing I did? I took a photo of the stairs I was now climbing and posted it on the app to the program. Some of the coolest stairs I’ve climbed.

Love the castle from the treehouse view.

We were now entering our FastPass+ time for the Haunted Mansion, so we took the walkway between Adventureland to the area in front of Country Bear Jamboree. I glanced to the right, noticing the Frontier pin trading shop that carries the exclusives and limited edition pins. We looked around for a few minutes, covering the entire store, but didn’t find anything we really liked or needed. Over the years, we have gotten more and more selected in what pins we are willing to buy. Besides that we are still working out how to display all of our more recent purchases. So off to the Haunted Mansion we go. With our FastPass+, we soon found our way right in front of the doors, stopping only long enough to take a selfie.

A cool new addition to the end of this attraction is in the area with the hitchhiking ghosts that now includes your names. Outside we stopped where a new PhotoPass Photograph seems to be stationed now.

Next was Memento Mori where Luke wanted to pick up something we failed to get last May, the Haunted Mansion die cast metal hearse. He plans to add this to his train layout.

Nearly supper time, we stopped off first at the Adventureland restrooms before heading to Skipper Canteen. The theming here is incredible, and initially, I couldn’t get photos as we were ushered very quickly to our table in a cozy fireplace room. Our server Lisa R (she let us know she was one of three Lisas working at this restaurant) was a master at puns and corny jokes, quite entertaining and probably the best part of this restaurant for the two of us. We quickly chose an appetizer -- Falls Family Falafel listed as a secret recipe of chick peas, garlic, onions, lemon juice, and herbs served with white bean dip and tomato-cucumber salad. This part of dinner was quite delicious. We also got a lemonade for me and a root beer for Luke. I had figured out earlier what I wanted for my entrée when we had looked over the menu outside -- Char Siu Pork, a marinated grilled pork tenderloin medallions served with Chinese broccoli and five-grain rice. My opinion, the pork was just mediocre. I know charring makes it black, but this meat was quite tough, and it didn’t take too many bites before I was tired of the flavoring as well. The broccoli and rice were good, but nothing awesome or noteworthy. Lisa really razzed Luke has he took quite a while deciding on his entrée, finally selecting the Rice Noodle Bowl with Chicken, a Pho Broth served with jalapeños and a mix of fresh herbs. She was stunned that was what he picked after all that thinking as she deemed it not exotic enough. He was hoping it would be spicy with the addition of the jalapenos, but in the end, he found it not to be spicy nor really flavorful at all. Overall, we were not impressed with the food here, but the exotic atmosphere and punning server made it somewhat enjoyable in spite of that. Right now, we don’t have plans to return, but Luke has read that the menu here will be changing. Afraid, we can’t give it the groovy seal of approval. But different tastes for different folks. If that happens, we may give it a second chance. Also a note, Tables in Wonderland is not accepted here. Lisa claimed that was because they were too new to deal with it.

Now for lots of photos of Skipper Canteen.

These are the coolest light fixtures. Loved them!

This is our table in the room where we dined.

Our room again and you can see Luke at our table.

I checked out the restrooms at Skipper Canteen Prior to leaving, and even shot a couple of photos as this is a lovely restroom.

We again talked about leaving to check out our room, but by now we were actually afraid we’d not make it back for the Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party that we’d already paid for. So we decided spending some time shopping before our next and final FastPass. Starting at the Emporium, I found a Dopey t-shirt and a Mickey athletic top while Luke picked out a steam train t-shirt in the Twenty & Main line for men.

Then we crossed back over to Uptown Jewelers in order to buy the Vera Bradley purse and wallet for Mother’s Day. I will admit I’m spoiled. While I paid for these, Luke went to the restroom. When he returned he let me know he was in some pain. I checked to be sure he wanted to stay at the park, and he did.

A new addition to my TRs will be a little puzzle in some of the updates. Your task will be to figure out where a particular photograph was taken. The photo will have been taken somewhere during the time covered in the update so that might help you narrow it down to the specific location. Today’s photo is below. Where is this?
