A Christmas Ship Comes Sailing In (A Cam and Luke TR) Completed 2/18 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

At 5:30 we were on our way to Lumiere’s for our first dinner aboard the Magic. We were introduced to our wait staff: Server, Agus and Assistant Server, Servet. They took great care of this evening and would do so every single night of the cruise. I grew quite attached to both. For our first night we were seated with two other couples (Mike and Penny; Paul and Connie). Our table had two empty seats, so we thought we might be joined later in the cruise by another couple tomorrow night. That proved to be true as this couple was dining at Palo tonight.
I know you all would have appreciated food photos, but I honestly did not want to be distracted from the dining experience. Beside my food photos are always disappointing. But I can tell you what we had. Bread was delivered almost immediately with tonight’s being Warm French Country Bread. Luke chose a Farmhouse Salad, Slow roasted chicken with garden vegetables (carrots, broccoli, and squash) and a baked potato. He chose a Coke Zero as his beverage, and Servet would be sure one was ready for him every night afterwards. I picked the Breaded and Deep Fried Brie with an orange and cranberry chutney as my appetizer. I chose a lemonade as my beverage, hoping to sleep better tonight without caffeine. I thought a few nights of changing to something else. But Servet had my lemonade ready each evening, so Servet, unknowingly, kept me from sabotaging my sleep while aboard. My entrée was Chateau-Briand Roasted Filet Steak with crushed new potatoes and buttered green beans. The steak was also served with Red Wine Jus and Béarnaise Sauce. Both of us were very pleased with our choices. I especially loved my steak, which is one of the best I’ve ever had.
For dessert, we both chose the Peanut Butter Mousse. I also purchased a glass of Iced Applewine that was so sweet and smooth. Just like I like it. I even allowed Luke a couple of sips.
Great conversation with our tablemates, caring wait staff, and very delicious food choices made this a great evening. When we were done with dinner we headed to the atrium for the Tree Lighting, both fun and beautiful.
I talked Luke into visiting the shops before the second show as we still had about hour before show time. I found some Chamilia and Pandora charms I loved, but I did not purchase, at least not yet. We crossed over to the other store where I did make a purchase: a cruise pin, scrapbook, and a long sleeve Merry Time Christmas t-shirt for me. As soon as I had paid, we made our way to the Walt Disney Theater to see All Aboard.
During dinner we had all commented how we could feel the motion of the ship. The movement was not extreme, but it was messing with my head. Then after I had the wine, it seemed to impact me even more. So as we entered the theater, a part of me wondered if I would make it through the entire show. Gradually, I felt a bit better. The show was dived into two segments about setting sail and Be Our Guest. Then Lynn Tefzger, a ventriloquist and comedienne, came out. She was very good at getting all of us to laugh, and I even forgot about my dizzy head temporarily.
Once the show was over we headed back to our stateroom. We found on our bed along with the Personal Navigator a card from DVC. Of course, a towel animal adorned the bed as well.
If we took the token in it to the DVC desk, we would get a complimentary gift. So rather than retiring for the night, we returned to the DVC desk to claim our gifts. We each got a cool DVC sailing pin. One more task before returning to our stateroom, Deck 9 for soft drinks at the refill station.
Now it really was time to settle in for a restful night. Before bed we relaxed on the verandah. The ocean is so vast and beautiful by moonlight, and the moon was full tonight.

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Looks like a great dinner and real DCL-style friendly serving team. The Atrium looks beautiful all decorated for Christmas. I always feel the motion on the first night as the ship pulls out into open ocean. I'm glad the uncomfortable feeling didn't last too long. A little shopping therapy and some laughter always helps. That view of the moonlight over the water never fails to inspire!
So glad you had a wonderful dinner and tablemates! That tree is gorgeous! Wasn't it exciting to get something from DVC every night?!
On our first cruise in 2006 with Stefanie, we were seated at a table for four and so we didn't really get to know any other guests like you do when you eat with them. This was one of the nice parts of this cruise!

Glad you had great servers and table mates.
I'm a fiend for freebies, but I do think I missed at least one night. It helped that we typically walked past the DVC desk on our way to the midship elevators each evening.
WOW the ship sure looks pretty all dressed for the holidays! Glad dinner was yummy and nice tablemates as well. I always feel the ship moving quite fast on the first night too, Glad it wasn't a huge issue for you.
I don't think we ever saw the tree lighting ceremony on our Christmas cruise a couple of years ago, looks like we missed out on something fun. Oh well, just a reason to do another holiday cruise one day.
I wonder if you had the same Captain we did in March. I heard some don't like to use the stablizers and I am pretty sure the one we had didn't use them as it was really rocky.
I'm glad the motion didn't bother you too much! The cruise I went on last year ran into a bad storm and the last 3 days of my 7 day cruise were extremely rocky and I'm very prone to vertigo so that was a really interesting experience. Our ship drained pools, tied doors open and everything it was so bad. The stabilizers didn't completely help either
Glad you had a great dinner! Love all the Christmas decorations on the ship! Sorry you were feeling some motion sickness, but glad it passed! A great day overall!

We had the seen the tree as we boarded, but when all the lights turned on it was stunning.

Sounds like an excellent reason for another holiday sailing.
