Who's Ready For An Awesome August Adventure?! August 2014 PTR - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I think my DH's favorite attraction in all of WDW is the Hall of Presidents . I find it a good place to get out of the heat and to . We can't wait to ride Mine Train either.
Haha! We may pop in there for some cool air and a rest!!

What awesome pictures of MK. I love that shot of the castle, it's so colorful and pretty It never was our favorite park, but is definitely getting there. When I miss WDW and listen to music and imagine being in the park, it always seems to be Main Street USA music and smells that I miss the most. That, and Illuminations pre-show area music.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing all your plans. It's been a long time since we have been there at this time of year, and I will need some pointers on how to handle the heat. I am so excited that you'll be there the week before us. Hopefully you'll do a few check ins while you're there and it will get me that much more excited! And, I can't wait to ride the mine ride either! I have been avoiding watching a lot of videos or 'spoilers' about the inside of it. I just really love surprises

Actually I just looked, it is an AT flight that I bought on the SW website. Is that what yours is?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the MK pics. It's always where I imagine being too, even though it's not my favorite park. Weird!
August/September really isn't that bad as long as you take it easy and don't try to do everything. Stay hydrated and seek shade whenever you can! And lots of pool time!

We flew Frontier out of Trenton last year and did it again this year because I had enough points to fly for free. I only have to pay for luggage and parking. We didn't have any problems last year and hope this years flights are just as easy.
I just can't resist giving a to Country Bears whenever it's mentioned.
We've never been on Stich either and probably never will.
I always think of Main Street when I'm Disney dreaming too. Nothing is more iconic WDW than Main Street and the castle. There's just something about it. Gives me the warm fuzzies!
I like DHS a lot more than I used to. It has definitely grown on me, but it's still my least favorite park. I am an Epcot lover all the way!!! I never have enough Epcot time. I love, love, love those countries! Don't know what it is about it, but I'm completely smitten with WS. And of course, no trip would worth a nickel without Soarin! BUT MK definitely takes a close second place in my heart!
I think your split stay is perfect! I would love to do one just like that... a resort at Mk and one at Epcot. Are you doing all your MK days while at the GF and all your Epcot days at BWI? I would LOVE to do that!!!

I checked, and mine is a true "Southwest" flight. I don't think I have gotten an AT flight when booking through SW yet. They abide by the no baggage fees thing no matter what, right?

We haven't done the Country Bears since our very first trip in 2005. I always mention going in there for a nice break when it's so hot, but the boys just roll their eyes.
Main Street is just magical. Wish I was there right now!!
You are right - Soarin (several times) is a must do to make any trip complete. I think I could ride that thing over and over all dang day.
I wish I could have planned all MK for the first half and all Epcot for the second half, but it just didn't work out that way. The day we arrive we will head to Epcot for the event. Then we will do a resort day, a MK day, and a DHS day while at the GF. Then move over to the BWI and we will have one MK day, TL, and 2-3 Epcot days!

I thought for sure given the flight times you would be coming in from Pgh on the plane we would be taking back to Pgh. But ours is definitely an AT flight, bought on SW. Yep, no baggage fees since it was bought on the SW website!

Your must do list is very similar to ours but we do the country bears every now and then and we do the Tiki birds. One of my daughter's friends had a lot to do with the last redo of it. The original was one of our favorites and this is close to it. We try to go on Peter Pan and Big Thunder Mountain. I don't do Space or Splash Mountains but my daughter and her husband do.
My favorite park is EPCOT and my least favorite is Animal Kingdom. They like DHS but they're big Star Wars fans.

First of all I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally happy to have a place to yap in here, so thanks for the invitation to do so.
Second I love that GF ticker. Only wish mine was at the same time as yours. Waaaah.
You will love the GF this time- I can feel it.
Third, crazy as it is, when I imagine my WDW happy place it's always in Future World in Epcot. Weird right?
And Fourth-- you are right-- I indeed did name Clarence, way back in 2010! I had forgotten that!
Fifth and sixth and so on and so forth---- I'm disgustingly happy to be back here for a couple of days before I run off again to the opposite coast this time! I am officially tired now.
I can't wait to hear about 7DMT. How many FP's did you get for it?
Please do an update in a day or so, so I can post about it in a reasonable timeframe.

That's what's great about MK, so many varying attractions. There's so much for everyone!! Maybe we'll do the Tiki Birds this time! It's been awhile. I like Splash, but hate walking around wet, so we don't do that one too much. I like Space, but sometimes it is so rough!
AK is last on all of our lists.

Shelly, no AK this trip?
I just can never seem to talk the boys into either of those!!
No, I don't think we will do AK this time. No plans of it as of right now. DH/DS12 just don't care for it at all. And it's become an every other trip for DS15 and I.

Chat away my friend!! Glad you are back for a few days before you set off on your next adventure!
Yes, too bad our GF tickers didn't match up. 2015
You know, now that you mention it, I do often go to Future World in my mind. Probably because I am always listening to my favorite Epcot music on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVKLoHFfYa8 Heaven.
We got 2 FP's for the 7DMT. We are going to MK twice and could only get one per day of course. The day we hit MK at rope drop we will head there first thing and ride it without a FP and then again later with a FP. Then we have a FP for it on our MK day when we arrive later in the day. So I figure we should get to ride it 3 times!!
I'll try to get an update done today or tomorrow!

We all love Epcot. It is definitely DH and DS12’s favorite park. It is close to being mine too!! DS15 still likes DHS the most, with Epcot at a close second!
With being able to walk to Epcot from the BWI, we will definitely spend a ton of time there during the second half of our trip! In fact, I bet we hit Epcot 3-4 times this trip!!
Our Epcot must-do list:
Soarin
Test Track
Spaceship Earth
Mission Space (DH & DS12)
Maelstrom
Gran Fiesta Tour
Nemo
Living with the Land (although I could do without it!)
World Showcase
IllumiNations
The kids have outgrown Turtle Talk with Crush. We usually stop through Innoventions, but never seem to stay very long. We will possibly do Figment, but usually don’t. Captain EO – did it once and that was plenty!! And we’ve never done Universe of Energy. I am curious, but never want to give up 45 minutes to try it. Any thoughts on that one?
We’ve seen a total of two WS films/shows: Impressions de France and the American Adventure. Both were very good. AA was a bit too long for my liking, but it was still good. We usually just pass through the Norway film after Maelstrom. I’d like to see Reflections of China and Oh Canada sometime. We just never seem to make time for them and the kids really aren’t too interested.
DS15 really enjoys the Japan Pavilion and we usually spend some time there. I really like touring the shops in Morocco, although I never buy anything! We almost always make time to stop into Germany for a yummy caramel treat! My most recent favorite from there is a chocolate & caramel covered pineapple! DS12 loves the American Dream slushy from the Fife and Drum snack place. DH loves trying the frozen coffee drinks around the world. But, we will talk more about Epcot food in another post!
Up Next: DHS Plans

We love EP too!! I think we're going there tomorrow. I need to get a couple of FP today. I think the best part of EP is the food. When we're here for only a week we almost always have a dinner ADR in EP LOL
I like Ellen's energy. We don't do it every trip, but I like Ellen Degeneres she is hysterical. I think you should try it.
Who's Ready For An Awesome August Adventure?! August 2014 PTR
I would LOVE to talk about Epcot! It's high on our list of parks too, but it's so hard to pick a favorite park for me though... I love mornings at MK and evenings at Epcot. So, I guess they are tied for first. Great shots of the World Showcase!
Your must do's sound pretty much like our typical Epcot plans. We usually do all of your must do's, except maybe only Gran Fiesta every other/ every 3rd trip. LWTL is pretty much every other trip also.
Still haven't done Ellen either, and it's for the exact same reason.... Just can't seem to want to sit for 45 minutes. But, I really love Ellen so maybe I would really like it!
I highly recommend Oh Canada, especially if you have been there or are a nature lover. They have some spectacular shots of Canada and it makes it just look so beautiful. The only issue is if any of you gets motion sickness, it may be too much. I do, and towards the end I found myself really ready to get out of that spinny room

Lucky!! Hope you're having a great trip! The food at Epcot is great.
Thanks for the insight on Ellen!

You are right, it is hard to pic a favorite park. Three of them are nearly a tie for me!!
There is never a wait for Gran Fiesta and LWTL, I think that's why we always do them. I really enjoy Gran Fiesta, but LWTL not so much.
Maybe we'll finally try Ellen. We've never even walked in that direction! If it were like 20 minutes I would definitely give it a try, but 45 minutes is so long.
I have heard that about Oh Canada. And I do sometimes get motion sickness. Yikes! Do you remember about how long the show is?

Same here! We never really even walk that way, so I don't really even know where *exactly* it's located! I think we walked that way ONCE, during F&WF and they were having some kind of food/wine presentation. We heard there would be wine, so we went. It was probably the most boring thing I have ever seen at WDW, so we used the restroom and bolted for the door.
And, if I am remembering correctly I want to say Oh Canada was about 15 mins (ish)...? It did feel a little lengthier because you are standing. I remember leaving and enjoying it enough that I would go back in a few years, but it's definitely not a must do status. Martin Short "hosts" it, and I think he's kind of fun and quirky - so I would recommend it. Even if it's just to say you did it once.
