Pop and Legos on Our Annual Feb. Trip! - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Let’s see, a little background info before I get into the actual trip.
It snowed on Sunday the 18th, so DS and I had a snow day off from school on Monday. That was nice, the first real snow fall of the year, but it melted quickly because it was back into the 60s by Wednesday. This has been a crazy, stupid winter! But I was glad to have a little taste of winter, so that the warm Florida breezes would be that much better!
On Wednesday the 22nd my Mom went back to the Orthopedist hoping to get her walking cast off. But the x-ray showed that the break was not completely healed. So she needed to be in her walking boot for a few more weeks. No problem, we wouldn’t be doing that much walking, except at LegoLand and we will get a wheelchair for her there.
But that means we definitely would not be going in to the Parks, which was disappointing. But our trip would be a lot more relaxing this way! They revoked her Main Gate Pass privileges when she was not able to return to work after the first of the year. But we still got her CM discount at restaurants and on souvenirs. So that was good!
While packing on Friday night, I checked the weather one more time and decided to take out some of my shorts and capris. It just didn’t seem like it was going to be warm enough. And it was probably good that I did. We ended up having 2 cool days and 2 warm days.
Up Next : Airport troubles!

Saturday morning, the 25th, dawned clear and cold. Which was good, another taste of winter before Florida!
We had a little trouble with Security at the airport . . . DH took only his Driver’s License and credit card out of his wallet to bring on the trip. When we got to Security the guy checking his license took an extra-long look and pointed out to DH that his License had expired! He had picked out his old license from his wallet! Why he is still carrying his old license is anyone’s guess! But the TSA Agent said since it had not been expired a year yet, he would let him through.
In hindsight, we had enough time to go get his current license, and we probably should have, just to avoid the lecture when we went through Security in Florida on the way home. (“The year grace period rule can be revoked at any time and if I didn’t want to let you on the plane I wouldn’t have to, blah, blah, blah. Ok, ok, we get it!”) Geez!
On another note, at both airports there were signs stating that now children under 12 do not have to remove their shoes. Nice gesture, but doesn’t that just give crazies a good plan?
Anyway, we found seats at our gate and DS went to use the bathroom, while I bought a bottle of water. While we were doing that it came over the loudspeaker “Will Melissa Williams and Liam Williams please return to security” You should have seen the look on DS’s face when he came out of the bathroom! “What now?” I thought! So we walked back to Security and after looking at my non-expired ID, they handed over our Boarding Passes which I had left in the x-ray bin. Geez! This trip was getting off to a great start!
We finally got on the plane and were settled in. But before taking off the Pilot warned us that it would be a little bumpy because of the wind until we reached a certain altitude, but by the time we got to Atlanta we should be fine. Well . . . the beginning of our flight was really, really bumpy. People were gasping and the girls’ college softball team in the back of the plane actually screamed a few times. In the midst of this DH starts to cough, I know that means his stomach is upset, he does that on lots of rides that I make him go on. I look over and he is white as a sheet! And he takes off his fleece vest because his is overheating! Holy Mackerel! I got the barf bag ready! DS is completely oblivious, watching the land below us get smaller and smaller. I swear it was only 10, maybe 15 minutes before we were out of the wind, but boy was it scary! But I was sooo relieved that DH recovered just fine once we stopped bouncing around!
The rest of the flight was uneventful. We landed, my parents picked us up, and we had lunch at Burger King in Sanford. We made it to Pop Century around 1:30 I think.
Up Next: Our evening plans

Looks like I found this at just the right time. What a departure day you had! From an expired license to pulling out the barf bag 10 minutes into the flight! Glad you made it there safely though.

Thank goodness they let your DH through with the licence, although it sounds like the guy on the way back wasn't so understanding.
Don't get me started about letting kids through without taking their shoes off. I think I commented on that to a TSA person a couple of years ago and she just looked at me and said words to the effect of they know that, it's not them you have to tell. Says it all really....
