The Good, The Bad and The Buggy - Nov 2011 TR - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

All caught up Miss Cooper. Or MRS. Cooper. Or just plain Coop. Lol! It sounds like your trip was amazing, from what you have shared so far, and I can't wait to read the rest! Sorry I am jumping in mine of late...I haven't been on the boards in weeks.
I can see what you' re saying, so no worries. I wasn't trying to start an argument, just sharing my opinion
Cool. I just wanted to make sure. Bc I know you read about my drink budget and my gf laughing at what I spent out of it. Not to mention my DH is a recovering alcoholic, so I wanted to make sure that everyone knows I completely agree. Just that I think that might be somewhat of an explanation.
Sorry that those that overindulge had to put a low mark on your day at Epcot Chuck. Thank heavens I gave up my position as designated drunk. Say a prayer for them and thank GUS you aren't among them.

Sounds like a great day! Unfortunately I have yet to hear much good news about CS in China. I don't think Chinese food is really conducive to fast food...you sort of need to have it made fresh for it to taste the way it's supposed to!
You were brave to "brave" the F&WF crowds on a weekend! Everything I've read about it makes it sound like a zoo!
Looking forward to your review of CG!
We were either "brave" or "crazy"! It totally slipped my mind, we were just nearby and said "Let's check it out" Should have opted for plan B.

It was a great breakfast! Just wait - did I remember food pics though?

My DH and I both noticed though that Epcot during the F&WF at night is a totally different atmosphere. Lots of people drinking way too much, there were lots of obnoxious drunks. It definitely looses some of it's "family friendliness". Can't wait to hear about dinner at the Cali Grill!
It is def not as family friendly or less Disney-esque during the F&WF.

I personally think it puts Disney in a bad light.Too many drunks spoil anything of this nature, and F&WF is no different. There seems to be no one to keep the drunks in check, however Coop and I usually walked fast enough thru the crown to avoid any problems. there was a guy who was wearing a video camera on his head and having girls sign his Tshirt.,he was almost comical if he wasn't so big, drunk, and scary.
We didn't do that much that day at Epcot, mostly we either walked somewhere to do something, waited to ride a ride,or waited on transportation. Those kind of days don't seem to be very special, but we were together,in Florida, on VACATION
need I say more.
Totally forgot about that dude! He was an idiot! But yes, we were together on vacation at Disney -

A few years ago, my friend and I made the mistake of going to Epcot on a Saturday night and it was wall to wall people, and there were many drunk people mixed in there. Needless to say, we didn't stay long. That just is not fun for anyone, and not how I want to spend my time at Disney.
I agree. Not a fun, Disney day. We made it fun though.

Thanks Mel. I do warn you - there are more food pics! It seems that I got more food pics and AK pics than anything else.

I am not much of a drinker myself...one of my gf's laughed at me bc I set a $75 budget for drinks for my 8 day trip in Sept. She said $75 would be her daily budget and it was mine for 8 days. Boy did she laugh even harder when I got home and told her that I spent exactly $20 out of that $75...I had 2 drinks the whole time we were there.
I don't get how people do it! I have seen TR where people have tons of FAB's, and all I can say is what I told me gf when she laughed...."I am there with my 7 year old. How much do I really need to drink?" Even if I don't have to drive or anything, still..... Kind of like you said about the lady with the stroller. Ew.
Sounds like you got a lot added to your shopping list though! Can't wait to hear about dinner.
Oh and Coop, get over to my TR I have posted new entries!
Saw all your entries. Just haven't been as diligent with commenting. I understand it's the F&WINE Fest but the first word is FOOD. Maybe they should have started eating BEFORE drinking! LOL I'm not opposed to a FAB myself. I was just wondering where's the limit? Where's the cut-off? As a waitress, I would have lost my job if I would have served them.

I understand it is the F&WINE festival, but I have seen this on every trip I have been on at Epcot (at night) . I think people just don't always think and realize where they are. It isn't a bar where there are no families and kids. My deal is that people need to think.
Agreed!

Glad I missed those! But we did have our own entertainment.

Thanks!
I was doing the same thing Sparks. Budgeting in a glass of wine with dinner, etc.

Cam, I think that is the only way to do it. Go during the week. We definitely went at the wrong time.

i'm anxiously awaiting your CG review, as i didn't love it--but i didn't love artist point, either. perhaps i just visited both on off days? or ordered poorly? i'm thinking it might be the last one. i often order poorly!
a 30 minute wait for the food and wine fest booths? aww man! that stinks! i'll be sure to never visit on a weekend. though that means i can never take my husband. oh well--more food for me!

Coming up, Trace! You will just have to eat for him and then report back. That's a plan.
So I planned a 7:45 pm CG time so we might see the fireworks. We checked in a little early (like 7:20ish) and asked for a fireworks/window table. We were taken upstairs and given our pager. We only waited about 5 mins when the host came over and asked if we had ever had a window seat because tonight we got one! Woo Hoo!
We met our server (and I forgot to write down his name) and started to look at the menu. We were kind of stalling some in hopes of seeing fireworks. Even our server said he could stretch this out and started off with drinks. Cabernet Sauvignon for me and ice tea for Chuck. Now, we are on the DxDP and get an app, entrée and dessert. BUT - Chuck can never decide on an app vs. sushi. So we got both! I got a cheese board and Chuck got a trio of tuna and the chef sushi platter. Naturally, even though I had my camera on the table - NO PICS of these. (We knew we would have to pay for the sushi platter and the wine - no biggie). Now mind you, I don’t like fish (except for a tuna fish sandwich now and again). But I tried the tuna (it was a marinated, seared and tartare) I liked the tartare the best, the marinated was a bit spicy and I didn’t like the seared too much. Then I had the sushi with salmon which I’ve had before and find quite yummy. But Chuck also made me try a California roll. I liked it - except the nori is a bit chewy. We both got the filet with a glaze on purple mashed potatoes with broccolini.
Filet with mashed purple potatoes
I found the potatoes to be sweet. They were good but somewhere between a Yukon Gold and a sweet potato. Yummy steak! Chuck had the goat cheese cheesecake and I had the smores dessert.
Smores dessert
Lemon goat cheese cheesecake
The cheesecake had a nice tang to it and the smores was kind of a deconstructed thing. It was very good and they did take a brulee torch to the marshmallow. I just didn’t think the peanut butter ice cream fit in for an authentic smores flavor. But it was good!
Anyway, here we are - done with dinner and the fireworks were late tonight (10 pm) because of EMH. Silly me - I didn’t take that into account. We were still about a half hour away. We saw people ordering more wine and coffee and hanging around taking up the space/table. Chuck and I didn’t feel comfortable with doing that though. So we settled our bill and hopped on the monorail!
Soon, we were going down Main St when the MM&Y show started. I couldn’t really see the pics from that far away but I did like the special effects. I saw an empty curb in front of the Watch shop, so we sat down with a trash can backrest and waited for the fireworks and parade. It was the Electrical Parade - another 1st for us! Loved it! My camera doesn’t do well with motion pictures in low light. But I got a couple of good ones.
I didn't get really great pics, like I said. Almost all of the pics of Cinderella in her pumpkin carriage were blurry. Just another reason to go back, right?
I apologized to Chuck for miscalculating the fireworks and dinner and he said “it’s ok - we got to see them on Main Street AND the parade!” He’s so easy going. It sprinkled just a bit before the parade. The rain stopped for the parade but started up again while we were walking back to BLT. I was glad I had brought my hoodie. Loved being able to WALK back. No long lines for the busses or monorail.
We got back to our room, popped in a DVD (M*A*S*H most likely) and promptly fell asleep.
