Patience, My Young Padawan PTR - UPDATED 5/25 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love your dining choices. We are doing the Afternoon Tea too. It will be our 1st time so I'm looking forward to it! We are ending our trip with Ohaha's. The food is sooo yummy there. DH is a picky eater but he loves the Churrascaria style restaurants here at home so I think he will like Ohanas.
How neat to squeeze in so many celebrations! Love all of your dining choices. If I had a choice between Yak and Yeti or Sanaa, Sanaa would win hands down, and I do really enjoy Y&Y, but Sanaa is my favorite.
Arrghh! You know, it was one of your TRs that made me put Sanaa on my list to begin with. I remember you all ordered the bread service for an appetizer (I'm a total bread person!) and it sounded so delicious. Decisions, decisions.... Plus it would give us a chance to look at AKL once more...which will most likely be the first Deluxe resort we move up to...

What wonderful meal choices and great places for all of your celebrations!

Between the tea sandwiches, and the tarts and scones and then strawberries and cream, it was a long while before I was actually hungry
Kevin would like to know if you think there are enough things there a manwould like to eat! He's not sure about the terrines and roulades.

I love the juice, too. And I had so much fun with Pluto last trip.

The Segway around the World Tour is FANTASTIC! I'm sure your DH will love it! My DH and I did it last year, and even though it was 30 degrees out and the wind was blowing 50 MPH, we still really enjoyed it! What fun!
That's good to hear! Kevin is already trying to figure out a way to strap the camera to his shirt to video the whole thing!

Love how everyone will get to have a special day!
See - here's another guy doing tea and he's not intimidated!! Maybe David and Kevin can compare their experience afterwards!!

The first thing out of David's mouth was "am I going to be the only guy there?" I told him that he might be but there might be a few others. I think for them to compare notes might be a good idea since neither one will want to discuss it with their co-workers or friends.
Oh and I wanted to mention, Kevin and David have some things in common - When I met David I was a single mom of a 10 year old daughter. I actually met David through our profession but he was a Tae Kwon Do instructor at the time and is a 3rd degree black belt in the same arts. He hasn't really practiced in the last 5 years or so because the Master that he had trained with for over 20 years decided to move 4 hours away. But he still loves and respects the art.
Too bad we will miss each other by a week or so, they might have liked meeting each other in person.

Very cool! Neither Kevin or I teach anymore - and I'll admit; I don't feel like I'm in black belt shape right now, but we both workout to stay healthy.
It's really difficult after you stop training in martial arts to jump back in - so much to remember - but it seems most black belts do keep their muscle memory and it just takes practice to get it back again.
I wish they could have met, too...

There’s not a whole lot going on in my planning stages right now. It’s too early for the last minute flurry of activity. Plus, much of my ‘packing’ is already accomplished from the postponed trip. My PhotoPass CD was purchased last year; most of our toiletries are stored away. Kevin had his new tube of VitaMotion-S spray for his motion-sickness.
One area we’re in bad shape is the clothes situation…Both girls have grown so much that basically none of their summer clothes fit anymore! Couple that with the fact that they are too big for the kids’ sizes now and a bit too small for the junior sizes and we have a real dilemma on our hands!!! AND, trying to find age-appropriate clothes in the junior section is a challenge. So we have been out a couple times so far shopping, shopping, shopping….Not much luck yet…
I have two things I am endeavoring to accomplish before we leave. And one absolutely HAS to be done…
1) Finish our 2009 WDW scrapbook
2) Completely read the camera guide for our new Canon Powershot G12
I’m a brand-new scrapbooker (and was inspired to try my hand at this from looking at all YOUR gorgeous books over in The Spare Room forum.) So last summer, I decided to try and scrap a few pages from our 2009 trip. Of course, once you start, you just have to finish and I jokingly told everyone “If I don’t get this scrapbook completed before September, we’re just going to have to cancel the trip.” Little did I know…
So now the girls keep telling me, “Hurry up Mom! Get it done or we’ll have to cancel again!” Since I’m just about finished with the first two days of the trip at this writing, I have a feeling I won’t be done in time…but we’re going to Disney no matter what!
AND…our old camera said its farewell to us at Halloweentime…someone (who shall not be named) accidentally dropped it on hard cement. We had actually been complaining about this camera for a while and I have a feeling the accident was just the Universe’s way of saying, “Okay – no more excuses for not purchasing a better camera.” We did the research and decided on the Canon Powershot G12 – an amazing camera but one whose vast array of features requires me to get a detailed guide so I actually know how to use it properly to get the most out of my photos.
So…while we’re still waiting, I thought I might go over some of our lists of must-dos for this trip; things we don’t want to miss and things we just can’t go to WDW without visiting…
The girls and I pretty much agree that doing ‘The Big Three’ attractions at each park is a total must-do!!!
Magic Kingdom : Hands down, this park is my favorite –simple because it feels this is where the magic lives.
And wow – this is going to be the biggest change for us this trip! First of all, we’ve never seen MK without the Halloween decorations in place! And with all the renovations going on in Fantasyland, it’ll definitely be a big change. We’re all in mourning over the demise of Mickey’s and Minnie’s houses. (Corinne says she feels like they’ve kicked Mickey out of Magic Kingdom.)
We also realize we’ll be dealing with larger crowds than we’re used to in September – which is probably going to be a big challenge.
FAVORITES:
Kevin : HM, TTA
Cathy: POTC, HM, SM, AstroOrbitor (I know, cheesy, but I like it.)
Kelley: BTMRR, Teacups
Corinne:BTMRR, Teacups, HM
MUST-DOs:
These are things we’ve yet to do and really want to…
~ Carousel of Progress
~Dumbo
~Country Bears Jamboree
~The ‘new’ SM
~Main Street Bakery
My DH went to tea with me last summer and he really liked it. There were a few other men in there too at the time. The first time I went there were 2 men having tea together - with no women either. I think the Afternoon Tea at GF is a good ice breaker to afternoon tea.
Good luck with the scrapping and the new camera instructions. I have a different Canon Powershot model and love it. I have to admit, though, I just use it a s a point-and-shoot and don't bother with the different settings.

I think you will still be ok crowd wise; I have been the first week of June before and it was very managable..... And hopefully the weather will be a little cooler for you.
Great list for MK; I hope you get to knock out your "must" list!!
What...you don't want your little girls dressing like little hootchie mommas?? I have a 17yo and I still have some trouble getting outfits that don't show crack or looks like she should be walking a corner. And I do tend to say something along those lines in the stores, which she hates but some parents shake their heads in agreement.
I scrapbook too. I have 2, yes 2, Disney trips and a Disney Cruise to do. I am such a slacker!! I have tried to start on the Cruise the past 2 weekends, but as you guess, something tends to come up. We'll see how this weekend turns out.
