The We NEED This Vacation / It's Now Or Never 9/18-9/27 PTR - COMPLETE!! 9/18 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That's horrible that they just canceled your coverage without any warning!
On a brighter note, I'm sure as the days continue to get closer you'll get excited for the trip. With everything else going on I can understand why you would be feeling anxious about the trip. Your plans for DHS look great!!

Thank you guys so much for all the pixies for my insurance! Hopefully I'll have some good news to share soon.
I totally forgot to mention in the beginning of the PTR - every year, we fly in on a Monday and leave on a Friday. Since Russ is coming with us and he's still in school, we had to adjust our days so that he didn't lose TOO much school time. The way it is already, he'll only have had 9 full days of class before the trip (a 3 day weekend for Labor Day and a 4 day weekend for one of the Jewish holidays I think). But only 7 days just didn't seem long enough
Instead of arriving on a Monday, we did the math and figured out that if we flew in early Saturday, we'd have a whole 2 extra days, plus extra meals to go along with the days, at not too much of an increased price. There was also no difference in airfare between Saturdays and Mondays, so that's that! I need all the time down there that I can get.
Day 4: MNSSHP!
We're not too sure what we'll be doing during the day before the party. Most likely, DTD. It's either DTD or Animal Kingdom, but I'd prefer DTD. We've been raving about Earl of Sandwich, and I could reallyyyyy go for one of their All-American's (the turkey/cranberry one). Pat gets the Meatball sub. I can't wait
Since it's still being debated about what time we'll be allowed in for the party, we'll still head over at around 4 pm. We have daily park hoppers anyway, so it doesn't really apply to us.
MNSSHP is one of the highlights of our trip! We the parade, especially, and Hallowishes. Last year, we went to the party twice because once just isn't enough! Adding an extra person and less days didn't make it feasible this year, but we REALLY love this party. We're also going to be Trick or Treating
Day 5: Epcot Day
Even though we'll have been to Epcot earlier in the week, we'll be heading back today. The first day we won't have seen any of World Showcase, so today is also going to tour that.
I really think Russ will love World Showcase. He and I both speak German (and none of the other friends or family do) so it'll be nice to actually hear other people speak it.
We're definitely looking forward to the new caramel shop, that's opening that same day!
We have lunch at 12:40 pm at Coral Reef (a favorite of Pat's and mine) and dinner at Biergarten at 7:15 pm. It's so hard to get good pictures inside Biergarten because of the lighting, so Russ will be very surprised when he sees it himself.
After Biergarten, we'll catch Illuminations. I've only seen that show once, and I think I missed a large portion of it because honestly I wasn't that impressed :. But everyone loves the show, so I'm going to give it another chance. It very well could've just been me.
Day 6: Animal Kingdom Day
If we do DTD on the MNSSHP day (which we almost definitely will), today will be our Animal Kingdom day.
I really enjoy AK, with the exception of the gorillas in Pangani . I'll just scurry past that portion and wait for the guys to catch up.
Must Do's for Animal Kingdom:
Expedition Everest - not only is it a fun ride, but I call Russ a Yeti. My explanation was because he's so hairy, he could be a Yeti or Sasquatch - actually, I usually call him Sassy, which is short for Sasquatch. Honestly, he's not that hairy, but that's what big sisters are for When I describe the ride to Russ, I just call it Yeti Mountain. We ordered the personalized maps from Disney and he looked through them with us, and he saw the huge mountain and said, "Is that Yeti Mountain?!" It was really cute
Dinosaur - Pat and I both love this ride. It's so much fun. We don't mind how harshly it jerks you around.
Kilimanjaro Safari - My favorite in the whole park. I dream of one day going on a real African Safari (the hunting kind, but still ) and it's so amazing to see all the animals just wandering around naturally. I could spend my whole day riding that ride.
The walking trails (Pangani & Maharajah) - we like walking through and seeing all the animals. (Minus the gorillas for me)
Would Like To's:
I've always wanted to go see one of the veterinarian procedures at Rafiki's Planet Watch, but I know they typically only do them first thing in the morning. I'm the only one in the group who is interested, so I'll probably miss it again.
Kali River Rapids - Russ loves raft rides. I hate walking around wet. It's just so uncomfortable on the thighs. We'll probably do it though
Flights of Wonder - I'm not sure if the show will be on while we're there (it wasn't last year) but we saw it in 2008 and enjoyed it.
Primeval Whirl - It was more fun than we expected. We'll probably go on again.
Finding Nemo - The Musical - the one attraction that we've consistently missed in Animal Kingdom! I still haven't seen it. But, I also still haven't seen the movie so it might not be that big of a deal. Also, I saw the lady who plays Dorey on a Travel Channel show, and she really freaked me out
After Animal Kingdom, we have a dinner ADR at California Grill for 7:40. I'm trying to snag a later ADR to give us more time in between the hotel and CG (we won't be able to stay until 5 pm at AK if we keep the 7:40 ADR), and also so we could hopefully hear/see Hallowishes from CG. When we made the ADRs we were planning on just having Wishes, which is why I made the 7:40 time, but they fooled me! I'm really looking forward to Cali Grill, it's always a wonderful meal and experience.
Coming up....Only 3 days Left?!?!

All caught up on you PTR. Your plans sound like so much fun. We considered doing the MNSSHP, but decided we just had too much other stuff going on this time. Maybe next year!
Sometimes, it doesn't even matter if it's a professional or not. The dog I had before Layla was boarded when I went away. The kennel called to say that his arthritis was acting up so they were moving him to be boarded at my vet's. I called the vet a few times a day and they kept saying he's fine, he's eating, he's resting, etc. So you can imagine my surprise when I went to pick him up and they brought him out on a stretcher and said, "You mean, you didn't know he was paralyzed?"
The kennel says that they took him into the vets walking but arthritic. The vet says they brought him in paralyzed. I'll never know what really happened, but it just goes to show how hard it is to find honest, trustworthy people - even professionals
Holy Crap!!! I just can't believe that! I would have been beyond angry. Also, I'm so sorry they cancelled your coverage without any notice. I hope you get this all taken care of so you can sleep soundly soon.
On a lighter note, your plans are looking great. It seems like you are eating at a few of my favorite places. 50's Prime Time Cafe, Coral Reef, and EoS...plus you like the same sandwich that I do. Oh, that makes me want one so bad right now! And Cali Grill is soooo good! Can't wait to read all about it when you get back.
Sorry to hear about the insurance, hope everything works out can you get Medicaid?Congrats on the extra 2 days! We have a sub shop here in DE called Capriotti's that has a turkey/cranberry sandwich so that sounds really good! All the diner plans sound delish!
Wow you are so close now, can hardly believe it, almost in single digits. I love it that you are leaving on Saturday, wonderful time for extra days.
Thanks! We've never gone on a weekend before, so I'm hoping it's not TOO crazy. We're on the first available flight so I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be as bad as middle of the afternoon.

You guys have so much awesome stuff going on, I don't blame you for not making it to the MNSSHP!

The All American sandwich is my faaavoriteee I'm looking forward to that sandwich more than some of the TS restaurants we'll be eating at!

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not eligible for Medicaid. Since I'm technically still employed (although listed as an "inactive employee"), my employer provides our insurance so they wouldn't allow anything to supplement in the meantime.
I wish we had a sub shop around here that had a similar sandwich!

Thank you! Me too. I'm going back to my orthopedist today (Thursday) so we'll know where I stand with that part of it.
