Taggin' Along Compliments of Disney! - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Go the dollar store and have her open one little toy up at a time. Crayons, coloring books, whatever. I would stock up. Also, it's more to carry but what about a portable DVD player to keep her occupied?
September will be nice. Warm but really low crowds. We practically walked on everything our past 2 September trips!
Good luck with the travel. My girls didn't get on an airplane at that age, so I'm not much help. I will hope that she will sleep for you on the way down.
AND....LOVE Grey's Anatomy!! I can't wait for the new season!!!! Glad you have the DVR ready.
Thanks for the reminder about Grey's. I have to add updating my DVR to my to do list since we will also be in the world. BTW, I also love your sig pic.

don't worry about everyone else, she is so cute no one will care! Seriously, I always tried for bulk head because there was a bit more room if at all possible! I think people expect kids on an Orlando flight, I mean the biggest thing there are amusement parks right?

I first flew with my DD when she was 15months. She sat on my lap and I brought along tons of food, drinks and a portable DVD player. She is really into Mickey's Clubhouse, so I found a DVD that had like 4 or 5 epsidoes on it. She ate and watched most of that the whole flight from AC, same thing for the way home, but this time she fell asleep. Also if you have an I-phone or an I-touch show her how to use that and you can download any type of show you want. I think as long as you bring enough things to keep them busy ( food, drinks, shows, books, crayon etc......) you should be fine.
But really, at the end of the day, they are babies and babies cry and get cranky. If someone wants to give you looks or talk smack about you, let them. Do you really care what strangers think of you?? As long as we try to keep our little ones quite and well behaved in situations such as flying, what more can one do. Don't strees, you will be fine
Hope really likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as well. We have a couple of them on DVD and my father has a portable DVD player that I could borrow, but I just don't want to have to lug all that stuff on the plane. Between her diaper bag and my mom's carry on that will also be housing my DSLR camera, won't that be to much? It would definitely keep her busy though. I was reading on another board that a mother was ina similar situation, and when she couldn't keep her son quiet another passenger called her a bad mother! Not that that's going to happen, I just can't believe what some people think of people with crying children.

Hi and thanks for joining in. I can't believe they sent me the tickets and getting BCV was just the cherry on top!

I can't remember how tall he was at the time of our flight but I had him on my lap and yes I had to be creative with where to put his legs and my legs especially if we put the tray down, but we did fine. Luckily we had a woman sit next to us on the end and she was very nice. For the most part Sam sat on my lap watching some movie, looking out the window and standing on my lap to look around at everyone, or he would move to my husbands lap. I was so paranoid every time he moved or made a noise but in the end, the woman next to us told us how well behaved he was and I was pretty much in shock since I felt he could have been better! ha! The flight home was in the evening and he conked out as soon as the plane took off and slept until we landed, luckily that flight wasn't full and we were able to snag an emtpy seat between us! You will be fine and just like Linny said, don't worry what others think, even though its hard sometimes, you have to expect kids to make some noise. Its always the people that don't really care for children that give the looks, and honestly did they forget that they were once children and someone had to put up with them!
I can't wait for your take on BCV since we are thinking of maybe staying there if we do a short trip in April before Sam turns 3.
I say the exact same thing...we were all kids once! I'm hoping we're in the "A" boarding group since I'm usually lucky enough to snag them, and I can see everyone now, just walking past us. Hopefully the brave soul who sits by us is just as nice as that woman who sat by you. Hope is a very well behaved child but she has her moments like they all do. I mean, I hate being stuck in that seat for 2 hours myself, so I can only imagine what it must be like to not understand why you're stuck there. And you're right, it's usually the people who don't like children that make the biggest stink about it.

Im seriously thinking about the portable DVD player. She is just starting to get the hang of crayons, but she'd rather put them in her mouth right now or throw them on the floor. But I'm going to pack a bunch of snacks and give her milk on the take-off part. That usually puts her in a sleep state.

Yay for another Grey's fan! After last season's finale, I'm just wondering what they're going to do next to top it. I do, however, wish that Izzie would come back. I'm a huge Alex/Izzie fan!

Thanks so much on the sig pic! And you're welcome about the reminder. I have a bunch of shows that I love watching, but I have no idea when any of them are really starting except for Grey's.

I feel the same exact way. If people honestly think there isn't going to be children on a plane to Orlando than they're a little delusional. And don't mistake cuteness for behaved...she's can be a little devil sometimes. Do you know if the bulk head seats recline?

I love the BC too! Can't wait to go back there someday.
Just a thought, I travelled with my son for the first time when he was 2.5, and I bought a seat for him, but we waited until the VERY last minute to get on the plane, so that he could run around until the VERY last second and not have to sit in his seat while everyone else boarded. Instead of getting on first and prolonging the agony.
Can't wait to see all the great pics of your adorable girl.
Oh and I would definitely go with a DVD player since she is too young for crayons, stickers and other little toy type things.

wow a bad mother! that could have been the one meltdown that child had his whole life! some people are just so RUDE. even before I had my son, whenever we flew and a child was loud or upset, we would feel bad for the parents, like what can you do, you are trapped in your seat. its like if you don't want to possibly be on a flight with kids, than drive! it isn't adults only! the only parents that really get me are the ones that let their kids sit there and kick the backs of people's seats!! now to me that is not the best parent. Whenever Sam's feet got anywhere close to the seat in front of us, I was pulling them back! I certainly wouldn't want my seat kicked so I am not going to let my child do it either! I am trying to remember what I took when Sam was 18 months, I know we took the dvd player, crayons and coloring books which were new to him but helped for a bit, a few books, some new cars that I had bought and snuck in his bags for surprise plus I brought some of his fave snacks in case he didn't like the plane snacks.

with the flights...I am sure it will be fine...DD's were 15months when we started traveling with them and they were fine we even flew to Cali...nonstop...of course. I had LOTS of snacks, drinks w/straw so they could drink during take off and landing for their ears. Also DVD...coloring books. I also wrapped "old" toys and they would unwrap them and it was like a "brand new" toy for them!!!!
Great plans!! I'm getting great at keeping secrets so your secret is safe with me
