Trip Report - Jan 14-22 Cruise/WDW: A Disney Trip Full of Hope! COMPLETED!! 7/15 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Saturday, January 16th: Point Me to the Nearest Hammock!
This is going to be a short update since all we did was relax.
We woke up after another restful night and got ready for a beautiful day at Castaway Cay! We started off with another breakfast at Beach Blanket Buffet. Chad and I went in to get our food first, and it was a little extra crowded this morning. While we were waiting to get our plates, a little boy was running to meet his mother and ended up tripping on part of the handicap ramp to the door. He went flying and took a really bad spill. There was a man standing directly in front of me, who could have gotten to him quicker than I did, but he didn’t move, he just stood there watching this child The cast member handing out the plates immediately stopped what he was doing to help the boy, as did I…Chad was going to but I told him to stay there. The mother finally came over and thanked us for helping him, but I was just appalled by the man who did nothing. I guess he didn’t want to loose his spot in line, but if it had been my child, I would hope that someone would have helped her.
After that ordeal, we got our food and ate outside again. The views we had during breakfast were picture perfect!
This is my favorite part of the whole cruise…Castaway Cay. I could spend the whole time on this island and not be unhappy. We took a few pictures along the way, opting not to take the tram. We had to stop and get her a stroller anyway.
We found a great spot on the family beach…right next to the hammocks and underneath a palm tree!
She ended up falling asleep in her stroller for a while, so I just soaked in the sun for a little bit and enjoyed our surroundings.
We were going to do the family scavenger hunt, but they stopped doing that. We were a little disappointed since we had so much fun doing that on our last cruise.
She finally woke up and we headed to Cookies BBQ for some delicious food. This was the best food we had the whole time we were on the cruise. Mom watched Hope while the rest of us got our meal, and as you can see, she stole the camera for some Hopey fun!
I can’t say enough good stuff about this food…
After we ate, we decided to see if she wanted to play in the water. It was freezing!!! I mean ice cold until your body got used to it. I put her in slowly and only put her in a little bit of water so she could sit and play. She just loves the water.
We must have worn her out because she started getting sleepy again…and so did I. I ended up falling asleep in the hammock with her for over an hour!
My parents and Chad took a tour of the island and left me behind without me even knowing it. I’m glad I didn’t wake up wondering where everyone was because I would never have found them.
By this time it was getting late and we needed to head back to get ready for dinner. Dinner…it was starting to become a bad word in our group.
Tonight was formal night, and it didn’t start well at all. She was rubbing her eyes again before I even dressed her, and I thought I would be able to put her down for a nap. That didn’t happen, and she was crying before we even left the room. I didn’t know what to do. Should I stay behind or should I take her? We decided to take her and see what happens. She started to perk up a bit, so we thought we’d try for pictures again…didn’t happen, and we only ended up getting one out of this bunch.
We never even got pictures of Chad or I dressed up because we were too busy trying to keep her happy, however, I thought we both looked pretty nice.
Dinner was at Animator’s Palate.
During dinner the black and white restaurant changes to color and there is a show at the end of the meal. Hope started getting fussy right away, so my dad held her for a bit.
However, tonight she actually let us eat. Granted, she wasn’t on her best behavior, but in between meals we passed her around and I kept her busy while I ate by giving her little munches of bread.
This meal wasn’t as good as I had hoped for either. The funny thing is that we all ended up ordering the same thing.
For our appetizer we order the wild mushroom risotto & porcini twist. This was very very good. I love risotto and this did not disappoint.
For the soup we ordered the creamy butternut squash soup. Not all of us liked this, but I definitely enjoyed it.
For our meal we got the phyllo-wrapped salmon fillet. Everyone thought this was okay, but not great.
And for dessert everyone ordered the buckled warm apple crumble…which was delicious, except for my mom who ended up getting a Mickey ice cream bar.
During the show she started rubbing her eyes, and she fell asleep in my arms. We finished enjoying the colors ...
...and left to take her back to the room where we found our last towel animal of the trip.
Chad and my father went on the top deck to start watching the playoff game between our beloved Baltimore Ravens and the Indianapolis Colts. My mom and I decided to finish our packing and let her for a while, and we would meet up with them a little bit later. We had to wake her up because I think she would have been out for the night, but I wanted to catch at least 30 minutes of the game.
When we got up on deck we noticed a bunch of Ravens fans and had a blast cheering them on with everyone else.
Well, we all know how this game ended …I honestly don’t remember the actual score, but does it really matter? Chad and my father ended up watching the entire game up there, but I went back to the room after watching us get our butts kicked for 45 minutes and went to bed. When Chad got back to the room I asked him if we won, and when he said no, I went to bed just a little bit disappointed.
How nice to sleep in a hammock next to water with lovely breezes. Ahhh.... okay...gotta take the kids to school now and watch my friend's son so my relaxing moment brougt to me by your TR is now over!
Taking a nap on the beach in a hammock with your little one had to be so relaxing!! Sure did look relaxing! So glad you got to enjoy your dinner even though it wasn't the best!

I'm working on the next update today, but I was so excited about booking a spontaneous trip to Disney that I had to share! It's just the girls this time (mom, me and Hope) and we'll be staying at the BCV! It's not a long trip but any time spent in Disney is worth it
