A Marriage Proposal, a Little Gustav and a Whole Lot of Magic! TR - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just getting all caught up!
I am so glad you loved Soarin! It is my favorite ride! I just it!
Actually, I am so very jealous that you got to ride it so many times in just one day!
So sorry about the Mission Space adventure. I have been on that ride once - and never again for me : I am way too claustrophobic!
Your day at MK sounds like so much fun. I love all of the great pictures.
Great update!

Just catching up!! Great updates! I'm loving all the self-shots!!
Glad you were able to get the resizing. Since you have XP, you might like this program from Microsoft: Power Toys - Image Resizer It's free and a great time saver. What I like the most about it, is that you can resize multiple photos at once - just don't rotate the photos until after you've resized. Bill (LizardCop) gives an excellent explanation of the program here: Resizing Photos in Windows XP using Picture Resizer
Just read your tr in one sitting....OMG, congrats on the proposal! I'm all verklempt! So romantic!
Sounds like you are having a wonderful trip. Even with those girls at SW...I hope they didn't do that to the wrong person...not a smart move!
I just found your TR and read through to here. First of all Congrats on your engagement!! What a great place for a proposal, and the following days sounded awesome. You are really getting lucky with most of your wait times or should I say mostly no wait times for rides! Did you use a certain planning guide or was luck on your side? Just curious.
Looking forward to hearing more about the rest of your trip, thanks for sharing!
Another great update! I love the pictures of the two of you by the castle! Were they putting the Christmas lights on the castle with the crane?? Hurry back
You know I never thought of that! They very well could have, although I was thinking it might be a bit early, but then again I saw how many lights were on the Castle and I'm sure it takes several days/weeks to make sure everything's perfect.

It was awesome! We usually hit crowds no matter what time of day....going in the off-season is something we'll try to do from now on that's for sure!
Glad you were able to have a great meal at LTT for your birthdays and to enjoy the fireworks again...
It really was great! I've been trying to find if we can get a video of Wishes, but I haven't found one yet....

It really was incredibly romantic! It's so much fun when boys really shock you with their ideas....he did good You are absolutely right with those girls.....honestly had I found out that probably would have been my lecture (I was an RA and had to talk to MANY freshman girls who ended up in awful positions by doing something just like that)....hopefully someone will have a nice chat with them

Thanks! You know we didn't use any of the touring guides online or in a book.....although we did look at some plans and took away some helpful hints (like starting in the back of the MK - or heading to Soarin' asap). I think what really helped us was the lack of schedule. Because it was just Craig and I, we didn't have to worry about others' opinions and could skip a ride if the wait was too long and come back when the line was much shorter. The only time this really backfired was for us was Toy Story Mania - which we were only able to ride once.
We certainly used fast passes to our advantage, and found many people didn't understand how to use them correctly. I can't tell you how many times we heard people say they couldn't get another fastpass because they already had a fastpass issued for a different ride that hadn't expired yet. No one bothered to see the fine print stating when they could grab another pass....toward the end of the vaca I started to feel bad for those families so we told them about the system. At one point we had 3 fastpasses for different rides at one time. Certainly saved time....I wish I could give you a more concrete tour guide.....but for us flexibility was super important and certainly helped with the wait times!
I just got caught up on your TR. Congrats!! I got proposed to in Disney World also and it's a trip you'll never forget. Can't wait to read more about your trip! Good luck w/ school and happy wedding planning!
I just found your TR! Congrats on the proposal! That was my dream but we were 19 when Rob popped the question so that did not happen! I just told him to give me a ring for our Ann witch is comming up but to hold on to it till we go! LOL Glad you have been having an amazing vacation so far!
What a great TR!! CONGRATULATIONS on the engagement!! It sounds like you had such a wonderful time. And, I love how you didn't let little set backs interfere with your fun. Looking forward to more...

Thanks for the luck! This week has been brutal (so I'm procrastinating at the moment!) - you're absolutely right, I certainly will never forget that trip as I'm sure you wont forget yours!

Thanks! Craig and I were just talking about that today actually. In my mind, the trip we had was perfect, yet there were several setbacks, some of which I didn't get to yet, but I'm glad we just let them roll off our shoulders! Makes a trip so much more enjoyable

Great updates. Glad you loved Soarin so much. Isn't it great? Great day at MK also. How did you like Liberty Tree Tavern? I've never been and I'm sad that I won't get to go before the characters are gone forever. More please. BTW great photopass pics also.
Off to Islands of Adventure! I was so apprehensive about going, on a previous trip we went to the original Universal Studios (IOA wasn't even built yet) and had an awful time! All I remembered from the trip was the incredibly long lines and the rides really weren't great (probably because everyone was so bored/sick from waiting in the line for 3 hours - in fact I got sun poisoning the last time we were here...)....so my expectations were extremely low. The first part of the day was the part that worried me the most: the Mears bus! Don, don donnnnn...I heard from people on PP and through google searches that the Mears bus was a hit or miss as far as reliability goes. I'll tell you we had a WONDERFUL experience with Mears, something I wasn't expecting at all . They were on time to the second and the drivers were great. So great start!
As soon as we got into the park we were hounded by "photopass" photographers, I'm not sure what they call them at IOA - we didn't get any of the pictures, in fact we didn't even see them because you had to get them at the end of the day rather than ordering them when you get home. But that was fun, I think we held Woody Woodpecker a few dozen times. Our first stop was the Hulk! I was so excited to ride the Hulk - and we waited in line to be in the first row! We only waited a total of 15 minutes or so and we were on! I was nervous....my engagement ring was a good one size too large, so I was making the biggest fist I possibly could! As we took off I remembered why I love coasters! What a great ride! Although an interesting thing happened, on the first "kidney" loop as soon as you get out of the tunnel my eyes had tunnel vision and eventually I only saw black - it only lasted for a few seconds, but I thought that was super strange. So when I got off the ride I told DFia who, as a pharmacy student, worried more than I did. But we attributed it to not having breakfast. So we stopped to grab some food! After we had a bite to eat, we headed to Ripsaw Falls - wow were we soaked! IOA must have a note in their mission statement that they will go above and beyond to get people wet! This worked for us since we were ridiculously hot (it is August!) - but wow, I've never been so wet in a park before....after we left Ripsaw Falls we took a few pictures of the Hulk, Dueling Dragons, and the new Harry Potter park!
The Harry Potter Land is behind me in that picture....looks like it's going to be a ton of fun!
Proof that they love to get people soaked:
DFia wringing out his shirt....hahaha I love it! And us airing out our feet!
We headed to Jurassic Park (I really wish I took more pictures of the rides) it was great . Unfortunately some of the great Dino's were under construction, but wow that was a great ride. Then on over to Poseidon's Fury (which I coined Poseidon's Walking Adventure - I'm not sure he would be happy with that) but this was fun too. The room with the circling water was great - it reminded me of a show at Ceasar's Palace in Vegas - brought back some great memories. Outside the ride we took this picture (it was completely random - when I made the shirt it was just a joke but it turned out to be very appropriate!)
We ended up riding every ride multiple times - including the Hulk again where the same eye incident happened, so I guess my body just doesn't like the Hulk ....we were done around 4 (DFia had been to IOA so many times and was shocked by the lack of people in the park....the longest wait we had was for the front row of the Hulk, other than that it we literally walked right on to every ride) - we called Mears at 2 and they were right on time at 4:15 (when they said they would be there) and took us home. Once back at POFQ we did something I have never done at Disney before.....swim in the pool ! Whenever we were at Disney it was non-stop fun and non-stop parks. Playing in the pool was great and so relaxing. The hot tub became my best friend. I didn't realize how sore my muscles were until I sat in that heavenly tub! We met a nice family and chatted with them for a bit and then decided to head over to Epcot - sans all sorts of bags! So freeing not to carry around anything! We went on Soarin' again, of course, we also did SE and TT. And finally headed home after a long day. What a fun day it was! Having such low expectations at the beginning of the day, I think, made the day so much better! IOA will definitely be on my list for a must visit park (although next time we might go over to Sea World, since we didn't have time this trip). So much fun!
Up next: Breakfast at Boma and a day at the AK
