Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Glad you made it to the resort!! Sorry about the noise from the pool, and the neighbors!!
This guy was outside on his cell phone every morning in the early hours. One day he was rattling off his credit card number. I couldn't help but wonder how many other guests could hear this personal info.

They must have stopped playing movies on the DME buses? One year we saw something with a talking parrot (live) It was pretty bad anyway though...! Can't wait for more!
There was a clip showing the characters going around the parks and doing other things around Disney. Not exactly a "movie" but more like a big advertisement for something that you've already paid for and are going to.

I can't believe a CM went as far as to tell a guest to smoke inside a building where smoking is banned!!
You're bringing back lots of memories of when my kiddos were 5.
Love the pictures of your room......hope you've got more to share of the resort.

I think he was telling him to smoke outside, but he didn't have to be in a designated smoking area. One thing I didn't like about the resort was that people used the pathway around the lake to smoke as they walked. I saw a lot of cigarette butts just thrown along the path throughout our stay.
I have more pictures of the resort I took once the sun was up and it wasn't dark anymore.

Forgot to mention that bell services arrived with our luggage by 11pm. I was very pleased with this since I was expecting a knock on the door at 1am.

Saturday morning came all too quickly. I never sleep well the first night in a strange place. Although, Andrew and I both agreed that the beds at Coronado were very comfortable.

Side note: later in the week we saw workers unloading new mattresses from trucks. Perhaps we were lucky recipients of a brand new mattress.

I had actually woken before the wake up call came. I showered and dressed then went outside to take some pictures of our view. I didn’t wander around the resort in case Andrew woke up and didn’t know where I was.

As you can see from the pictures, it was a hazy morning with the sun just coming up.

I also took a picture of the world’s ugliest shower curtain. Looks like someone hit the clearance sales to decorate the bathrooms.

Mickey called to wake us up. I placed the phone next to Andrew’s ear and the kid didn’t even stir. No rolling over, no groans of how he’s still tired, no protests, nothing.

I listened to Mickey and Stitch then proceeded to shake Andrew awake. I had to keep reminding him about our tour at 10:00 and that got him motivated to get moving.

We had a quick breakfast of pop tarts and coke in the room. Nutritious right? Oh well, we’re on vacation.

Breakfast of champions

This morning we learned just how close we were to the bus stop. We took the elevator again so someone could push the buttons. I had turned the wrong way off the elevator at first, then decided the people who were in there with us knew their way around so I just followed them. A quick left out of the elevator and across the parking lot and there was the bus stop.

A bus came after about 10 minutes or so and I realized we weren’t going to make it to the opening ceremony. Andrew discovered one of his favorite things to do was to stand up on the bus, even if there were seats available. After all it’s not everyday that you’re allowed to stand up while a vehicle is in motion. Can you tell we don't take public transportation? I guess everything is fun when you're not allowed to do it at home but you can on vacation.

We arrived at the MK a little past 9. Bag check and the ticket entrance were both quick. We stopped to have our picture taken in front of the castle. Then it was off to Dumbo. Everything I’ve read had said to always do Dumbo first thing before there were long lines. Well, even that early in the morning we waited 15-20 minutes to ride.

After Dumbo I told Andrew we had time for one more ride before our tour. He didn’t want to do the Pooh ride and we chose Snow White instead.

This is where Andrew started a running commentary of how Snow White was his favorite movie when he was a baby, but he doesn’t like it now. He just likes the ride.
When Andrew refers to things as “back when he was a baby” he could be talking about just last year.

We boarded our “Happy” mine car and off we went. It’s been a while since I’ve been on this ride. When the witch pops out at you in the beginning it scared me to the point where I jumped about a foot in the air. Andrew closed his eyes in some of the dark parts but insisted he wasn’t scared.

After, we stopped in the shop to get Andrew an autograph book. I had intentions of making him one but I just got too lazy and never did it.

continued in next post.......

It was now 9:45 and we had to meet at the tour garden by City Hall by 9:50. Main street was still jammed packed with people so I had to do a little clever maneuvering to swim upstream so to speak.

We made it to the tour gardens the same time as just about everyone else who was going on the tour. We were offered bottles of water and told to wait outside in the little garden area. We were also given Peter Pan name tags to wear. Well, the name wasn’t Peter Pan. It was a sticker with a picture of Peter Pan with our names on it. It took me awhile to get the backing off the stickers. Boy those suckers are difficult. After a few minutes everyone was checked in and we were ready to begin.

Spoiler Warning – the following is a description of the Family Magic Tour as my memory serves me.

Our tour guide was Karen. Or was it Kate? Let’s just say it was a girls name that started with a “K”. So, I’ll just call her as K. I'm really bad with names.

K came out and had everyone introduce themselves and who their favorite character was. Andrew said Peter Pan. He’s been on a Peter Pan kick lately and we read the book almost every night. I said Goofy. Mainly because no one else had said Goofy and I was the last to go. I had to get Goofy the 10 minutes of fame he deserves.

"K" the tour guide

Then K went into a story of how we were all there because she needed help with a project. She had a whole bunch of stickers and that she had to go around and put a sticker on unsuspecting guests in the Magic Kingdom. Hee hee. That sounded like fun to me and I was wishing we would actually get to do this.

K got called away for a minute and came back with news that Captain Hook had lost his favorite hook and was holding the MK hostage. Unless he got the hook back he would turn all of the MK into a pirate land. That also doesn’t sound too bad. Especially with my pirate loving son and all the popularity surrounding pirate themes nowadays. But I guess Walt didn't want his theme park to be taken over by pirates, so we went on our way to find the missing hook.

Anyway, one of the kids was chosen to read the first clue. The answer was the harmony barbershop. I waited a few seconds to see if any of the kids knew the answer. There was complete silence, so I whispered the barber shop into Andrew’s ear. Andrew blurted out the answer and he received a couple of Mickey stickers.

Andrew is a very honest kid most of the time, so he didn’t hesitate to tell K that his mom told him the answer. This resulted in K giving me Mickey stickers too.

We walked over to the barbershop which was a crowded area with people waiting to get haircuts and Daisy was doing a character greet there as well. The group had to sing When You Wish Upon A Star in order to get to the next clue. All the adults kind of looked at each other with looks of toned deaf doom. Even though K told everyone the words, none of the kids were willing to sing. All of the adults kind of sang along with K very softly so as not to embarrass ourselves around the 50 or so strangers milling about. We also didn’t want to break any windows or get thrown out of the park for disturbing the peace with off key singing. Why oh why can’t they pick a song that doesn’t require hitting high notes? I won't be winning any American Idol contests anytime soon. Neither will any of my tour mates for that matter.

With the embarrassing singing over and done with, the next clue was read. We were headed to the partners statue. After the first clue of the barbershop, the other kids knew the clues so I didn’t have to whisper any more answers to Andrew.

Along the way to the partners statue we stopped in front of Casey’s. K asked someone what their favorite food was. It was then decided that the phrase “I would like some macaroni and cheese” would be the code to see if someone was a pirate. To check to see if someone was a pirate we would walk by them and turn our finger into a hook and say “Aaaargh”. If that person reacted then they were a pirate. The first person we tried this on was a CM by the tip board helping out some guests. Well the CM was playful, and a pirate, but the guests looked at us like we were all crazy.

We had to go to the right of the hub to read the next clue because the area by the partners statue was a zoo. The next couple of clues led us to the Claw by Buzz Lightyear and the globe thingy.

After looking at the globe it started to drizzle. Not too bad and it felt good to be cooled off a little bit. We played a game of “how should we walk” to get to our next destination Cosmic Rays.

We skipped, hopped, ran our way to Cosmic Rays. At this point the rain was getting harder. The next clue had us sneaking into Cosmic Rays. Then the sky opened up and it poured. K said we would take a little break in Cosmic Rays and she took off to somewhere unknown. We were all sitting there watching Sunny Eclipse do his thing and wondering when K was coming back.

Andrew had a snack of some pretzels I had with me while we waited. After about 5 minutes K returned and the rain had slowed to a drizzle again.

We went over to the wishing well by the castle where K gave a penny to everyone. We went around in a group to say what we were thankful for. Kind of like it was Thanksgiving. A lot of people said they were happy to be spending time with their family, taking a vacation together and all that mushy stuff. Andrew said that he was happy to be with me because he loved me. Aaaawww. Makes me feel kind of guilty that I said I was grateful for air conditioning. Hey, give me a break. It was hot, humid and I was sweating to death under a plastic poncho. Another woman was grateful for the Cleveland Indians so I wasn’t the only one who didn’t gush about quality family time.

The details get a bit fuzzy from here. I remember playing follow the leader after the wishing well. Then we went to the Cinderella fountain, the area outside the Pirates of Caribbean ride and the tiki statues. We also stopped somewhere in frontierland but I can’t remember where.

We made our way over to Liberty Square and stopped at the tree with the lanterns hanging on it. The story was that Tinkerbell was somewhere in the tree and we were to call for her to come out of hiding. We walked around the tree yelling for Tinkerbell at the tops of our lungs. This was made funnier by some families who joined us to see what we were doing before realizing we were on some sort of tour.

We got to a point in the tree where one of the bottoms was out of the lantern. Tinkerbell must have escaped. Our next task was to go hunt for Tinkerbell when Peter Pan and Wendy showed up out of nowhere. We all went to the little underpass area next to the Hall of Presidents to have our moment with Peter and Wendy. First we needed to check to see if the CMs in front of the HoP were pirates. They just stood there and gave us curious looks so I guess they weren’t pirates.

K was explaining to Peter and Wendy that we were looking for Captain Hook’s hook before he turned the MK over to the pirates. This is where I became disappointed with this tour. Peter just took the hook out from behind his back and said something about having the hook right there with him all along, so why were we looking for it. In my opinion this was a very lame way to end this. Couldn’t they come up with something more creative like having Peter help us “find” the hook in a hiding spot right there. It just seemed to end abruptly. Tour’s over folks, go home.

We all got a chance to have pictures taken with Peter and Wendy and they gave us a magical moments certificate signed by them and Tinkerbell. I guess that’s why they don’t sign autograph books at this time.

Peter reading our name on our magical moment certificate

picture time with Peter and Wendy.

Please excuse the drowned rat look. I didn't bother with the poncho while it was just drizzling out.

Another funny moment was when some families saw Peter Pan and Wendy and thought they could run over for pics and autographs. They stopped dead in their tracks when they realized it was part of a tour and would be turned away. I would have felt bad if it was the child who was running to see Peter and Wendy, but it was the Dad who was dragging his kid along at top speeds in hopes of a picture. It amazes me when I see parents rushing their child over to a character when all the child wants to do is something completely different.

All in all Andrew and I both had fun doing this. I’m glad I did it, but I think it’s a one time thing. I didn't take too many pictures because of the rain. I had told Andrew ahead of time about Peter Pan and going on a “treasure hunt” so that he would be excited about the tour. If I had just referred to it as the Family Magic Tour I’m sure I would have been met with resistance to do it.

End of Spoiler

Glad you could get a couple rides in before the Family Magic Tour....sounds like Andrew enjoyed his adventure!

BTW, when my Andrew was in kindergarten and had to give thanks at Thanksgiving....he said he was thankful for his swingset!
