Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Oh, my goodness is that a great picture of the two "ladies"... don't they look adorable together?! And what a terrific camera you have -- so crisp and clear!

I just read something about this decoration that I thought was SOOOO cool. The reason Donald is up there facing the people leaving MPhM is that he was "just" blasted through the back of the theatre at the end of the show!! Cool, huh?! (Well, I thought so!)

Re: The \'Ohana - means family - means nobody gets left behind\' trip report. Day 2 UPDATE 9/3
[b] <font color="purple">“Something tells me that the lines for Pirates of the Caribbean are real short right now, so I suggest you head on over there”. OF COURSE THE LINES ARE SHORT. IT’S FOUR IN THE MORNING. There will be no more Pal Mickey wake up calls as we refused to allow him to sleep with Kat after night two.
Anyhow, I didn’t really mind the early wake up call. England is, of course, 5 hours ahead, so I was able to log onto MSN and check that the girls back at the office weren’t slacking, whilst the rest of the clan slept soundly.
Today I was so excited as it was the Little Ones Extra Magic Hour. I knew that Fantasyland was open early, but otherwise didn’t have a clue what to expect.
We were on the boat at 7.30. It is worthy of mentioning just how lovely the CMs operating the boat were. They were incredibly friendly, and always gave Kat a sticker. Today the CM even took our photo.
Not very flattering of me that one. Seems I’m wearing my fat suit. Should have done something with it in Photoshop before posting
I took a photo of Matt and PM outside the entrance.
I was puzzled as to why there were so few people there. I bet there weren’t more than 100 people awaiting entrance.
Soon enough we were in, and being the ultra competitive mother that I am, power walked my poor family to the front of the line, trampling over several unsuspecting toddlers en route (JOKE). Joke or no joke we were right at the front of the rope at Fantasyland awaiting opening.
We were greeted with this sight.
At the stroke of nine (I am now in fairytale mode) the Mad Hatter approached and did a bit of a skit, although I’m sure most three year olds were thinking ‘Shaddup and let me in. I just want to get to Dumbo.’ At least I was. And then the rope dropped and the magic began.
I really cannot begin to tell you, how amazing this morning was. (We did two more Little Ones EMHs, each better than the last-but I’ll save the details for the right time).
First, Kat got to play football (soccer to the uninitiated ) with Piglet and Tigger.
Piglet took a shine to Kat.
The characters were on the rides. Here’s Stitch on Dumbo.
And Goofy on the carousel.
Then Kat did the Hokey Kokey with Snow White and Dopey.
Now Kat knows the Hokey Kokey because she does the dance at her dancing class, but in America the words seem to be a bit different. Just in case you ever find yourself doing the Hokey Kokey in England, here are the words.
You put your left arm (or insert other body part) in
Your left arm out
In out, in out and shake it all about
You do the hokey kokey and you turn around.
That’s what it’s all about.
Oh hokey kokey kokey
Oh hokey kokey kokey
Oh hokey kokey kokey
Knees bend, arm stretch, ra ra ra.
Except Snow White (in her best helium voice I must add), didn’t sing it like that.
First, I’m sure she sang Hokey Pokey (here in England that is most definitely the rude version). Then it was definitely a bit different in the middle. And to add insult to injury there was no chorus. Anyway, Kat took major exception to the desecration of her favourite song and made sure Snow White was completely aware that all wasn’t well. ‘SNOW WHITE, YOU’VE GOT IT WRONG’.
One quick photo and we were away before Snow White set her minder / handler on us. Trust me that handler was not for messing with.
And that concluded Little Ones Magic Hour. It was wonderful. The characters wouldn’t sign autographs and weren’t even supposed to pose for photos. They were just there to play with the kids.
We headed over to Frontierland and BTMMR, which we all rode. Kat was easily tall enough and loved it – but she is a daredevil. Next to Splash Mountain. The drop put Kat off so we did a baby swap. Have I mentioned that there were no lines at all?
We then decided that we’d trek over to Tom Sawyer’s island (or catch the raft to be more precise) and we were the only people on the raft. Of course that gave us the chance to find ourselves a paintbrush. We were, after all the only people on the island. Kat did indeed find a paintbrush without too much effort and we spent some time exploring TSI.
Kat and Matt enjoy a game of draughts whilst Pal Mickey offers support and encouragement.
Our prize for our paintbrush find? A fastpass for any ride in the MK. Great prize if there’s heavy queues. Pointless prize when there are no lines, but still. I ‘d have been happier with another magical memories certificate.
Anyhow, we were now hungry and when in Frontierland one must eat at Pecos Bills.
I had the chicken wrap.
Matt and Steve had cheeseburgers.
We also got some peanut butter dessert thing. We wouldn’t have bothered if we weren’t on the dining plan.
We all rated Pecos Bills highly, although for all the hoopla, according to Steve and Matt the burgers were no better than anywhere else (and let’s face it, if all you want is lettuce, tomato and onion on your burger, it’s hard to get excited about a fixin’s bar). My chicken wrap was very nice. We’d definitely go again. 8 out of 10.
At this point Kat declared herself exhausted, so my darling husband volunteered to take Kat back to the WL, so Matt, Pal Mickey and I could spend a little quality time in the MK.
Coming up. I get to experience my favourite attraction in the MK. You’ll never guess what it is. Not ever.

I have never heard of Little Ones Magic Hour! That is fabulous! Mary Devall would be in heaven!
I love how Kat corrected Snow White over the Hokey Pokey! How wonderful that she could play soccer with Tigger and Piglet! And riding the rides with Stich and Goofy! I am just blown away!
I love your comments on Pal Mickey also! You didn't cause him any physical harm, did you?
And yes, the CM's on the ferry from WL were always super nice!
Can't wait to read about your favorite MK ride!

What a fun Little Ones Magic Hour. I may have to borrow someone's little one so we can go. That is so neat. And, your chicken wrap is huge! We have always gotten burgers at Pecos Bill's, but your wrap looked wonderful!

Karen - I'm not surporised at all that Piglet was taken with Kat. She's so adorable I would think all of the characters would have been smitten!
Little One's EMH sounds amazing! Time to just play with the chracters - who could ask for more?
Thanks for the update! I can't wait to hear what your favorite ride is.......

Okay, I just read straight through your report from the beginning and I'm all caught up. Hurry back with more. I can't wait to find out what your favorite ride in the MK is. I'm going to guess the Haunted Mansion.
P.S. I love Kat's curls, and Matt looks fantastic wearing my hometown football team jersey - The New England Patriots!!

Oh my, that wrap is HUGE! I may have to add that to my list of things to eat to fill my bottomless pit!
I was starting to wonder if the paint brushes at TSI were nothing more than an urban ledgend. It is nice to know they are real and see that Kat found one! I love it when Disney myths are verified!
Great update and wonderful pictures. Can't wait for more.
