Our "Let's Try This Again" Trip Report UPDATED: 11/1 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I that picture of Roger in the wave pool! I thought about trying for a picture like that with my family but figured for sure both the camera and I would end up under water. I just love his expression!
What a wonderful day of fun celebration!
Your meal at California Grill sounds so delicious!
That dessert trio that Roger got sounds amazing!
I have had the dessert you got Tricia, and I it!
Fun, fun update with wonderful pictures!
Day 6 (8/13/09)
Today we were up early to go have breakfast with Donald at AK before the park opened. This is one of my favorite things to do – book an ADR for 8:00 a.m. in the various parks so that we can have pictures of an almost empty park, have a great character meal and be already inside the park when the rest of it opens at 9:00. This was the first time we had tried Donald’s Safari Breakfast since they had moved it to Africa from Dinoland. We were impressed with the changes. Veronica, who checked us in, was really fun to chat with while waiting to have our picture taken with Donald.
Us with the Tree of Life with hardly anyone else in the picture!
Saying Hi to Donald on our way into breakfast.
The way the buffet was set up with different kinds of entrees (hot entrees on one side, cold entrees together and the sweets in the middle) in each area and the plates below the food was really cool. I love all the décor around the restaurant too. We had our pictures taken with the characters as they came around and got their autographs for my pre-schoolers back home. What was even more fun was the look on Dorothy’s (our waitress) face when we asked if we could get our picture with her since she is the one who really is the star for doing all the hard work at breakfast!
The “Sweet” section of the buffet. Yum!
Roger and I with Dorothy at the end of our meal.
Since we were already in Africa, we walked right onto the safari with no wait!
This is how close the Giraffe were to the Safari Vehicles this morning!

We met a couple of characters on our way to Asia after the safari and stopped to take some pictures of the Tree of Life including some close-ups of the animals in the trunk from across the river.

After grabbing fast passes for Expedition Everest, we headed over to the Maharajah Jungle Trek to check out the animals. We stopped to check out the cool fountains in Asia on the way.
A very cool fountain – literally
I appointed Roger as photographer of the bats since I don’t do bats ever since they used to get into our attic in our old condo.
Roger’s bat picture
We saw the tapirs & the Komodo dragon and watched the tigers for a long time. We found some hidden Mickey’s in the murals along the way too.
The tiger pacing back and forth

We headed over to Dinoland where we took a break inside Restaurantosaurus to cool off before heading over to Dinosaur. We did some exploring around Dinoland on our way back to Expedition Everest to use our fastpasses.

Roger can’t find the big, yellow dinosaur I was trying to warn him about.
Our picture with Everest on our way over to ride it.
After Expedition, we spent some time exploring the Oasis on our way out of the park.
Some of the beautiful residents of the Oasis.
We headed over to Blizzard Beach next since it is very easy to get there from the AK since they are on the same bus route. We wanted to go play miniature golf at Winter-Summerland before cooling off at Blizzard Beach but first we went into BB, changed into our suits, left all our excess stuff in the locker, bought the refill sticker for our mug so we could fill it up and take it with us and then went over to play golf.
I got a hole-in-one!
Roger is really concentrating!
We won’t mention who won but Roger says that I have an unfair advantage for having taken golf lessons in the 6th grade. As if that would give me an advantage at miniature golf 26 years later!
After golf, we went to drown Roger’s tears in the waterways of BB. Unfortunately we did not get very far through the park, when they had to close it due to a lightening storm. They say lightening doesn’t strike the same place twice, but this is the second time I have taken shelter in the BB store right before it has struck there! By the time we had made it to the bus stop in the pouring rain, we had just missed our bus. A very kind driver by the name of Larry drove us to the WL on his way to the Contemporary and Poly so we wouldn’t have to wait for another bus. Way to Go Disney Castmembers!!! And thank you wet people on the bus who had to wait through an extra stop to get back to their resort.
Since the rain just kept coming, we changed our plans and went to Downtown Disney tonight. We decided to use our travel voucher for Planet Hollywood to dodge the rain for a bit longer and grab some dinner. Maybe I’m just getting old, but it seems to get louder and louder every time we eat there. I had a huge headache by the time we left. The rain was letting up by this point, so we did some shopping around the marketplace and had dessert at Ghirardelli’s (seemed like a good way to cure a headache to me)! And with that, we called it a day.
We have an early tour in the morning…..more to come!

I love the picture you got of Mickey in the parade! Too cute! Awesome TR, can't wait to hear more!! We're going to have to try this whole getting up early thing next year!! LOL
Just caught up Tricia. What a wonderful Anniversary Day, from your breakfast at CP to dinner at the CG everything seemed perfect. Glad you and Roger and such a great day to celebrate.
Looks like you had a great morning at AK, Sorry your time at BB got cut short but while dinner at PH was not perfect having a yummy dessert sounded like the perfect way to end the evening.
