Meri's Dream Come True - A Birthday Celebration! - PTR updated 02/04/2014 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like you've planned a great trip. When we were on the Fantasy last year they were not doing day passes to the Rainforest, it was cruiselength passes only. Just a heads up. I don't know if that applies on the Dream as well.
I can't remember where I saw them, but I did see that you could purchase one-day passes for the Rainforest Room for I think $16 each... I don't know if we'll have time to really use them, but I do hope to, since there won't be any spa treatments for me on this cruise.

I can't wait to see it!! Oh good, Meri loves those tattoos... of course I hate them, lol, but... it's vacation after all...
Ok so I just looked at Kelly's boarding picture from her trip on the Dream in October, and the background for the boarding photo is a purple... do you think that's pretty standard, or do they regularly change the background color? I'm trying to do the whole "matchy matchy" thing for our boarding photo, and I'd like to try to coordinate, since for the last cruise, we had these awesome red shirts, and then the background was red with an almost similar shade pattern, lol... which was a little weird because we really do blend into the background on that one...
Thoughts here? Don't worry, I won't hold it against anyone if they make an educated guess and it's wrong! This is just me being OCD here.
I got Meri's suitcase mostly packed while she was upstairs zoning out to Minecraft videos. I have three princess dresses (Merida, Ariel, Aurora), a pirate outfit, two t-shirt / pants outfits, a t-shirt / skirt outfit, her bathing suit, pj's, plus all of her socks / undies for the trip. Her second bathing suit will go in my carry-on. I also threw her pin lanyard in there. I need to pack her Minnie Mouse dress (the one from last year's boarding photo) and probably one or two shorts-sets for when she wants to run around on deck.
For me... shoot, it's gonna be jeans, capris and tshirts, with nice pants and shirts for dinner. I'm mostly planning on being on deck in my cover-up and bathing suit to get some sun, but I know I'll need some "wandering around" clothes, too!
Mom and I agree we are not anticipating getting a TON of rest / down time in, simply because we really want to enjoy the amenities on the boat. But I assure you, a snooze will be taken on Castaway Cay in a hammock again.

You are so lucky Meri cans till fit into last years dress, on a good year I get about 6 months in either of my boys clothes. I can't wait to see he pictures of her wearing it again she was so cute in it.
You really have me thinking as we are going to be in Orlando in 2015 maybe a 3 night cruise might work for us. See what you are doing?.
You're really doing well with the prep! I haven't even thought about packing and I leave 5 days before you! I'm going to guess (based on nothing, so this is really useful information!) that they don't change the background color all that often for the boarding photo. Maybe I'll browse a couple of old TRs and see what I can find!
Sheesh, I really am obsessive! I just checked a few TRs and the only one other than from Kelly and Melissa's cruise is Jenns, from a couple of months before-- same purple background. It could be, of course, that they change it every year..... See, all that research and I came up with nada.
I'd say, try to coordinate with neutral colors. That way it won't matter what color the background is.
Congrats on having all your packing done!
That's exactly what we did!

Not long now. Just under 3 weeks right?
A 3 night cruise would totally work!! Let me know when you do it, ya know, just in case it works for us, too!

Can you believe it's nowhere to be found? I found the case, though! So we're getting there... it's so odd...

So funny - I did the same thing and had the same issue. I even went on the DIS Boards to read some TR's to find out... and none of the TR's from this year (because I had the same thought about the yearly change of color) have any information about that!

I did, but it's about to come to a screeching halt, I think, lol! Life is just too busy these days. Ugh!
MATCHY-MATCHY!!!!!!! I have created monsters with this!!!!!
Here's my take on "Boarding day matchy matchy" Anything nautical or in that color scheme can do NO WRONG!!! Whatever the background is..........plus you are all too cute it really doesn't matter
Ok so after 30 minutes spent staring at t-shirts at the Disney Store this evening, I FINALLY decided to go with the gray Daisy tshirt (with purple design) for myself and mom, and then I got Meri a purple tshirt with Merida on it. Since she'll be standing in front of us again, I figure if the background is purple, she won't blend in, and if it's not purple, she won't clash. Ha!
Here's the tshirts - now I admit the coloring isn't the best in the picture - they look better in person, I think.
I almost went with this awesome bright magenta tshirt with Minnie on it... I was close... but then I had this momentary panic that the background would be a red or something that it clashed with, so I said forget it, go neutral-ish.
I realized I never posted our boarding photo from the last cruise (heck I never even finished the TR for the Globetrotting portion, since I realize I didn't post about the last travel day - whoops!), but in this photo we had no idea about boarding photo backgrounds... and I just picked these nautical-themed tshirts out for myself and mom... and we just happened to blend perfectly in with the background... it's crazy, isn't it? Even the patterns are similar, ha! I know the photo is awful, but you get the idea...
Last but not least... I got Disney mail today! WOO HOO! We got our luggage tags and boarding paperwork! So exciting! Still no cabin assignment (I'm so impatiently waiting, and I check the Disney website daily to see if my cabin number has been added) but it made it so exciting!
Oh, and I also picked up another autograph book at the Disney Store for Meri. She chose the princess themed one. So, on board, I'm sure we'll be doing plenty of character-hunting!
Two weeks and three days until we're on the road!!! That sounds so close!!!

I agree, I looked for nautical themed shirts, and no dice. We debated wearing last year's ones but then I balked at that because I'd like to have NEW matchy shirts, lol! So... I went with just "boring" old Daisy ones. But by heavens we will match!!!

Those shirts should work with pretty much any background. That red boarding photo is so funny! If you look at it squinty it looks like you're all standing behind one of those boards with circles cut out to show your heads! Not only red shirts, but the exact same shade of red!

It was quite uncanny, lol! We got a good laugh, though! When people see the photo in our living room they assume I planned it deliberately, but alas, it was just crazy luck, because I wouldn't have planned to match to THAT degree! If we'd all been sunburned, you might not even be able to see us in the photo!!!
