Thank You Disney Movie Rewards PTR (November 16-22, 2014) - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry for the long delay. My dad called Friday saying he would be stopping by for a couple of days on Sunday. Pat and I had to get the shelter finished for the boy alpacas, and Pat isn't suppose to be on a ladder for at least 6 months, but it had to get done. So, I spent the weekend with him making sure the ladder was secure and we used a lot of caution. Thankfully there was only a little left that required being up on the ladder.
Pat is feeling much better and seems to be mostly back to normal. He is back to work and the only difference from normal is he is more tired than usual. Thank you for all the pixies, we are still so thankful he is okay.
Our trip is now 26 days away, which seems almost impossible, but it will be here before we know it. So, on with the PTR!
[BToday's Update: Disney's California Adventure Touring Plan Day 1[/B]
This will be our 2nd day in the parks and we are planning on spending it at Disney's California Adventure. One thing we are going to be careful of is to try and get up and be at the gates early. We are not usually early birds, but with the parks not opening until 10am we might be okay. We will enter DCA using the Grand Californian Entrance.
Tuesday November 18th, 2014
1) Me - Get FP for Radiator Springs Racers
Pat/Kids - Ride Golden Zephyr
2) Me - Get DAS time for Toy Story Mania
3) Silly Symphony Swings (the kids will ride these alone. Neither Pat nor I want to ride them.
4) Mickey's Wheel of Death - the kids are dragging me on this as punishment for making Shana meet Captain America.
5) Toy Story Midway Mania
6) After riding TSMM, we will get a DAS for California Screamin' if the line is longer, if not I will get the DAS time for Luigi's Tires.
7) California Screamin' - Pat will not be doing this one.
8) If we got the DAS for California Screamin' we will now get one for Luigi's Tires.
9) LUNCH - We will take a break for lunch either in the Pacific Wharf Area or at Flo's V8 Cafe.
10) Radiator Springs Racers (Hoping this works with our FP time, otherwise I will adjust accordingly)
11) Luigi's Flying Tires using the DAS from earlier.
12) We will get a DAS time for Mater's Junkyard if we need to or get it for Tower of Terror.
13) Mater's Junkyard Jamboree
14) Get DAS for ToT if we didn't earlier.
15) Tower of Terror - Pat doesn't know if he will be doing this one or not.
16) Get DAS for Soarin'
17) Art of Animation - we love to spend time in here, so we will hang out until our DAS time is ready.
18) Soarin'
We should have some free time and we will use that to visit some things we missed or ride some of our #2's. We are having dinner at Naples Ristorante at 8:30 in DTD so we can stay in the park until it closes if we want.
This plan actually has all of our #1's, except for Grizzly River Rapids. I have kind of nixed the water rides for now. I will see how we can work them in during the trip. I will only do water rides if we can leave the park immediately following and go change. Since we aren't planning mid-day trips to the room, this may be harder. We may be able to ride right before leaving and go change before dinner.
Also, night shows are going to be a bit of a problem. But I think we will be able to catch at least the fireworks and maybe Fantasmic! at Disneyland. I'm hoping for a theme park view room (crossing my fingers) so we can watch World of Color from the room. The kids just cannot do the crowds at WoC and the one time we went it was rough. If we can't watch from the room, we will probably have to skip it.
Next Update: ???????? (Not really sure at this point)

So glad Pat is recovering well! Your California Adventure day looks great-- ambitious, but great! One tip I have about getting FP first thing for RSR-- When I was there the line to get FP for the ride was over 45 mins long but the stand-by ride time was 15 mins! People just automatically got into the FP line without checking. Now, this was in 2012, when Carsland had only been open a short time, so maybe the frenzy is over, but you might want to check the stand-by time before automatically waiting for FP.

Glad Pat is feeling better! Be careful on those ladders!
Plans look great!
We are using an abundance of caution with Pat on the ladder. If it was something that could wait 6 months we would. There is just a little more that needs a ladder and we should be able to finish that this weekend.
Thanks on the plans.

Thank you! We were very worried, but it's good to have him back to mostly normal.

I know!! That is actually a great advantage for us because we are not early birds, with the time difference that will be like 11am our home time. We should be all set. We aren't doing any of the early mornings, those never work for us (usually because we don't get up in time. )

It is a bit ambitious, but we know we have the 3rd day to make up anything we miss and we tend to move quickly. The only problem with not getting the FP is that I was sending Pat with the kids to Paradise Pier while I go get the FP for Radiator Springs and then the DAS for Toy Story. I may have to rethink that.
Today's Update: Wednesday November 19th - Walt Disney Studios Tour Day!!!!
I was trying to think about what to update and I realized that I could do our plans for the day of the tour. I am so excited for this tour and honestly if it wasn't for this tour we may have ended up canceling this trip and used the money to retile some rooms in our house. But the tour is super special and the tile will just have to wait!
I received an itinerary from Disney and here are our plans for the day.
We will get up at about 7am, with plans to leave at 8:30am. I am going to check with the CM that has been helping us plan and see if that is enough time with traffic taken into consideration. It is a 45 minute drive without traffic. That will give us 1 1/2 hours to get there find where to go and get inside to get to the parking structure. If we arrive too early we can grab some breakfast or find something to do until closer to our time. If you are familiar with the area let me know your thoughts. We are basically going from Anaheim to Burbank.
10:00am - Meet our Host near the elevators of the parking structure.
10:00a - 12:00p - Tour the Disney Archives and Studio Lot (this is the so cool!!!!)
12:00p - 1:30p - Lunch at the Studio Commissary (their treat!!) (Also so cool!!!!)
1:30p - 2:00p - Visit the Studio Disney Store (um, shopping!!! )
2:15p - Return to the parking structure and have to leave.
After we have to leave we will head back to the Grand Californian and we are planning to spend some time either at the pool or do some shopping and looking around Downtown Disney.
We have dinner ADR's at House of Blues at 6:00pm.
I may look into options offered at the resort as well. Shana wanted to take the towel animal class last time we were there but it was not at any times we could do.
Next Update: Tentative Plans for Thursday and Friday
I agree that this day is worth the whole trip! The Studio tour is wonderful. You keep seeing scenes and items that you've seen for years in documentaries and also some things you've never seen anywhere. I was near tears the whole day just realizing where I was. The food at the commissary is good, too! It was fun shopping with all the Disney execs, but there was pretty much the same stuff as in the parks. Ask if they have any Studio-specific things and they'll point you in the right direction. I'm so excited for you!
