Home is Where the Mouse Is TR (June 1 - 11, 2017) - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We arrived at Magic Kingdom in no time. Went through bag check and turnstiles.
Soon we were walking up Main Street and I was getting my first glimpse if the beautiful castle. It had been too long.
We also got some MM pictures done.
We got as far as the start of the Adventureland bridge, so we just waited there for the park to officially open. Let me say, it was scorching hot and it wasn't even 9:00 am. Anyways, we got to see the opening show.
After the park was opened, we headed towards Frontierland, with the intention of riding Splash Mountain. But, when we got there it wasn't running yet. The CMs there told everyone it would be a couple of minutes. I think we waited 15 minutes and we were let in. Of course, the ride was a walk on.
Our first fastpass was for BTMRR and we were to ride with BIL and family. Well, we waited around for them, giving them time to arrive. (I forgot to tell you, that before heading over to the park, I had called SIL and they told me they were given a room and she was going to give the girls a shower). I got some pictures while we waited.
Well, we waited and waited and waited. With 5 minutes to spare, I texted SIL and she told us she was still at the bus stop at the hotel and to go on without her. Thanks for letting us know so we wouldn't have to wait around.
We rode BTMRR and it was as wild as ever. Then we headed to Adventureland. PotC had a 15 minute wait so I made my family hop in line. Well, those 15 minutes were more like 30. Oops! There was lots of whining going on. After the ride, there was still no sign of the others.
It was hot and we were ready for a snack. We got frozen strawberry lemonades. Each boy got one and I shared with Arben. We sat on some shaded benches in front of the Enchanted Tiki Room. As we ate our snacks, we people watched.
Finally, SIL texted me that she had arrived. We went to meet her and to our surprise BIL was not with them. He had seen a friend of his, at the hotel and decided to spend a little time with him. Mind you, this was his daughters' first visit and the first time they'd see the castle. But, that's not important right? (I would've been pissed if Arben had done that to me ).
So obviously he wasn't going to make it to our next fastpass, which was Haunted Mansion. We headed over there and Arben and I rode with one of our nieces. Poor thing, her first ride and she was terrified. She didn't cry or anything, but I had to keep reassuring her that it was all make believe. When the ride was over, she declared that she was NEVER going on it again.
After that, BIL arrived. He was having a little trouble finding us, so I volunteered to go get him. When we were all together, we walked around for a bit, as our next FP wasn't quite ripe yet. Let me tell you, it was HOT. I mean, melting hot. Thankfully it wasn't long before our Peter Pan FP was ready, so we headed over there. While in line, we made a FP for Under the Sea. Peter Pan ride stopped for a minute, first time that's ever happened to us. It resumed rather quickly and we were able to enjoy the ride.
It still wasn't time for our FP but we headed over to the area and just waited it out, in the shade of course. Soon, it was time to ride so we all headed for the queue. The ride was cute as always.
After riding, we were all done so we headed out, it was a little over 3:00 pm. I think my BIL and family stayed for a little while. I got some photos on the way out.
We got to the bus stop and a bus arrived shortly. By the time we got on, it was standing room only.
We were on our way and arrived at POR quickly. I decided we should get off at the main stop as we didn't know where our room would be. I hadn't gotten a text yet and I was going to the lobby to see about our room. On a hunch, I checked my email and there was my room assignment. We got room 1411. Before heading over there, we went to the gift shop. The boys and I bought our mugs and Arben got some beer.
We got our carry-ons from Bell Services and went to Riverside Mill to fill our mugs. Hello Cherry Coke!!! (They don't sell Cherry Coke in PR, so it's a treat when I visit the states.) We walked towards our room and wow, was it close. I mean, it was like 25 steps to the food court (35 steps if you're counting my tiny steps ). I didn't get any of my room requests but hey, I'm not complaining at all.
Our luggage arrived within minutes. I, of course, got everyone to unpack everything. I hate living out of the suitcases. After everything was put away, Abniel and Adriel went back to RM to refill the mugs. After that, Adriel and I went in search of the quiet pool. (My kids prefer the quiet pools over the main pool ) No one actually went in the pool, but at least we knew where it was.
Back at the room, everyone decided to take a nap. It was probably around 4:30ish. Well, when I woke up it was 6:00 pm. Wow, I was tired. I got up and took a nice, long shower. Then the rest of the gang got showers as well, but not at the same time. Everyone was famished, so we went for some dinner. Adriel and I got the make-your-own-pasta, Arben and Abniel got flatbreads, and AJ got a chicken sandwich.
After we were done, AJ and Abniel headed back to the room. Arben, Adriel, and I went for a walk around the resort. It was a lovely evening! I got some pictures along the way.
We got back to the room and we all settled down to watch the NBA finals game. After it finished, we called it a night.
Sounds like a wonderful day! Your PP photos on Main Street are beautiful! Can't believe how much your boys have grown!
I love POR resort! It's such a beautiful place to go for an evening stroll!
Good job finding a new photo hosting site! Your pics look great!
I love all your castle photos, yours and the PhotoPass ones. Sorry the heat was oppressive. I had wondered when it was in the 90s in May what June was going to be like. I happy that flickr photos upload well and look good, too. Your resort looks so pretty as evening comes on.
What a great day!! It sounds like the perfect mixture of fun and relaxation!! Your pictures are wonderful!! I don't know what you are feeding those boys but they are huge and all three are so handsome!!.
Great day in the MK! Funny photo of AJ on Splash Mountain as he looks like he's having a siesta! You got a lot done in the MK and looks like you're all enjoying POR as well. Nice resort and have three stays there. Which building were you staying in at Magnolia Bend?

They've grown a ton. I've asked them to please stop growing but they haven't listened.
Our evening stroll was lovely! We went around the entire resort. It was great exercise too.

Flickr is very easy to use. I'm sticking to that one for now. I hope they don't get any ideas from PB.

Oh my goodness, that heat was brutal. At times we felt we couldn't go on. Thankfully there were plenty of places to take breaks.

AJ is always doing these types of poses on rides. I don't know how he manages to stay so calm.
We were in Alligator Bayou, building 14. Closest to the main building.
Sounds like you all had a fun first day at MK! I can't believe your BIL would miss seeing the reaction of his daughter walking down Main Street USA for the first time ever. My friend was at WDW the same week that you were there and she told me how incredibly hot if felt. Glad you liked your room assignment even without getting any room requests.
