As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!
Saturday 22 April – part five: well don’t hurry yourselves!
Then it was over to Olveda Street, which is where Los Angeles started. It’s like stepping into a part of Mexico with Mexican artefacts for sale everywhere. Some of them looked really nice, but some did look quite tacky.
This is also where you can find the first house from Los Angeles, the Alvos homestead and, although there’s not much to it, it’s still quite interesting to walk around it.
We also saw the firehouse with the carriages that used to be pulled by horses. As Mark pointed out, as the city got bigger, so did the carriages.
When we got back on the bus, we were missing the two old ladies that were with us. They were a real pain, full of comments as one had taken a similar tour before and knew all the answers to the questions as soon as they were asked. We spotted the pair of them a little way off, buying popcorn and the bus driver tooted his horn, but they just looked at us and didn’t hurry themselves at all. They were given a round of applause when they finally made it on to the bus.
Next we visited Chinatown and everything here had a Chinese element to it, from subway stops to the gas station. There are even Chinese freemasons here – really, Pappy pointed it out to us and there’s a sign saying just that.
Now our tour was drawing to a close. We got some final views of the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Park Observatory on the way back.
Then we were travelling back along Hollywood Boulevard, the same road that we had driven along this morning. Now though, it was very different, the sidewalks were packed with people. At points, this morning there had literally only been us on them!
We got back and everyone was asked to wait for their bus back to their hotels or the next tour, but as we were waiting for neither, we excused ourselves, leaving Pappy and our driver Pedro a good tip. They had both done an excellent job in looking after us on our tour.
We walked back to the Kodak Theatre and as we got closer, there were characters out all over the place – Bart Simpson, Darth Vader, Batman and Spiderman were just some of the ones we saw. In a way, it really cheapened the area and again I was very glad that we had experienced this early in the morning without all this circus.
The parking was only $10 for the day, which I thought was very reasonable. I had been expecting to pay a lot more than that. This is Hollywood after all. Even the signs we had seen for parking in Beverley Hills weren’t too pricey. I guess they’re more interested in getting your money from you in the shops and restaurants there.
Next: where are the Baywatch babes and guys?

Great update! I love the "Chinatownland" sign They turn everything into a themed "land" out in Hollywood, it's hysterical. It's like you're always in a movie More please!

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!
Saturday 22 April – part six: where are the Baywatch babes and guys?
We headed out and I deliberately took on Mark on a road that avoided Hollywood Boulevard, as that was at a standstill, it reminded me of Oxford Street in London, the city’s biggest shopping street where people can walk faster than the traffic.
We made good time and went past Pink’s hot dogs, which I was really pleased about, as I didn’t managed to get a photo of it on our tour earlier. We had been told that it always has a wait at any time of the day or night. We went past it twice and certainly, it was busy both times that we saw it.
We drove back through Beverley Hills:
Then we crossed on to Santa Monica Boulevard, avoiding the freeways, as I thought that they could be mad and we made good time, plus we got to see quite a bit of Los Angeles as we drove.
We finally saw the sea and knew that we were in Santa Monica. We headed right to the seafront and wouldn’t you know it, Mark found a parking spot right there. He always has all the luck when it comes to finding parking spaces – I wish I had that kind of luck. I really wanted to see the pier here, so that was our first stop, but oh my goodness, it was cold and windy out there. This was one place that you really want it to be hot and sunny and it wasn’t at all. The beach was still pretty busy, but let’s just say that everyone out there was fully clothed because of the weather. No Baywatch babes or guys for us today.
After a wander along the pier, we headed on to the beach and admired the machine that rolls a picture of Los Angeles into the sand, meaning that you can walk over Los Angeles here. Unsurprisingly, the picture was long gone. I guess it had been rolled first thing this morning.
After our quick stroll in the sand, we crossed back on the mainland and up to Third Street, which is the main shopping area. It’s amazing how quickly this place changes between totally dead and very much alive. Third Street is a hive of activity, while First Street up to that point just has no-one around on them. I could imagine that it’s a place that you could get into trouble with no-one around. We also saw a lot more beggars here, much more so than we did in Los Angeles, which surprised me. This wasn’t as nice an area.
Next: how did we sleep through those last night?

I LOVE the pictures of the beach with the mountains in the background. Too cool! I am used to Florida beaches...flat and white. I have definitely added Santa Monica to our list of places to see.

Re: Two go wild and go west! THREAD 4 - UPDATED 6/4!
DH and I stayed in Santa Monica about 10 years ago. Loved walking down the Promenade. Plus it always reminds me of The Brady Bunch Movie when they are taking their long lost father in for new clothes and dance about the Promenade.
