An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke Trip Report) COMPLETED 8/6 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Taco Bell seems like such a messy choice for driving food! Sorry you both havd some spillage! The room looks so comfortable & I'm guessing you'd stay there again on future trips?
Btw, welcome Pam!!
Luke got one of Taco Bell's wrapped meals which was perfect for driving and eating, but it also came with a hard taco which was not. I had a quesadilla, which I thought would work, but one of the triangle slices was extra large and droopy, so I dripped twice on myself. I did manage to get the stains out eventually so all is good.
We will definitely stay at this Hampton Inn again.

The Hampton Inn in Valdosta is very nice, in fact they have somewhat become our stopping point of preference anymore. Hamptons have been consistently clean, comfy and large. The breakfasts have always been good. Maybe we have been lucky. Love the photos of 'no traffic' in Atlanta!
This Hampton Inn will probably become our preference, too. It is so nice and the drive on in to WDW isn't bad from there either.

We have been pleasantly surprised that driving down has worked so well for us.
Wow, scary wreck! Other than that, it sounds like a good trip so far.
We were happy to be on the road, headed to WDW.

Can't wait to read more! Very nice beginning!
So much in life is this way. I'm glad we weren't there, and I truly hoped that the folks involved were okay.
It's always so scary and sad to see the aftermath of an accident like that. I always send up a quick prayer that everyone was OK.
As soon as you said Taco Bell, and hoping it would be easy for Luke to eat while driving, I thought, I hope she has some Tide Pens along! That would never fall into my roadtrip food options list. (Of course, I don't eat Taco Bell at all, so I guess it wouldn't matter for me!) Hope the spots all eventually came out!
Your room looked really nice!
I did send up a prayer hoping they would be fine. The funny thing is we never eat at Taco Bell, but we'd been wandering around this area without finding anything to the point that the next restaurant to appear won.

Luke go me a Runtastic Orbit for Christmas. I already had the Runtastic Pro app on my phone, so they had sent me frequent e-mails about their fitness band. I love it, and wearing it all the time hasn't bothered me at all, though I thought it might. I even wear it in the shower as it is water proof, and when I sleep, because it monitors my sleep as well.

Is that a picture of THE Varsity restaurant?? Very !!
I get to see planes that close if I go out my front door....I saw Obama's plane and all the military helicopters last year when he was here for a high school graduation. It was really neat to see!
Wearing what I am eating......family trait in my house!! Taco Bell is really hard to eat while driving!!
That is the Varsity. I keep saying we need to stop here sometime for a meal, but our timing is always off as to when we are passing through Atlanta.
That accident sounded very scary and I'm glad you were not close when it happened! Your room in GA seems very nice It will be a good place for you to stop on future car trips to WDW!
Luke and I had the same thought that this would be a recurring stopover on trips down to WDW.

We worked on our front porch this past Friday, getting flowers planted in all our flower pots. On the way back in the front door, a spider tried to make himself at home. Luke was trying to stomp him with his foot, and I kept squealing. Luke asked me to calm down so he could kill it.
Your accommodations for the night look quite comfortable. It's hard to get excited about stopover hotels, but they do get you one step closer to the magic!
It's very frustrating when you're crawling along in traffic, especially when you don't know the reason why. Very scary to find out it was such a horrible accident.
We did just consider it a part of the vacation even if we weren't in Disney yet.

The stopover hotel looks lovely. I always debate about spending money on those. I mean, on one hand it's literally just a bed for the night on the other it's part of the vacation and you should be comfortable.
We enjoyed having a very nice place to stay even if it wasn't a WDW resort. We did the math and even with the cost of the hotels both ways we still saved several hundred dollars over flying.

Hampton Inns do have wonderful beds.

I was very excited the next day when I realized how soon we'd make it to WDW.
I had to giggle to myself when you said eating Taco Bell might be an easy "eat and ride" food. I somehow always find myself in a pinch and grab TB for a quick meal in the car, and EVERY TIME I kick myself because , well it never is. Tasty though!!!
I can't wait to see and hear more from this trip.
Welcome to the boards, Pam!
First of all, Taco Bell and driving?? We don't eat at Taco Bell anymore. But, even if we did, I don't know how I would be able to drive and eat anything from there! You guys are brave!
Secondly, Valdosta Georgia has a very special place in my heart! It is where we picked up our sweet little Miss Daisy 4 1/2 years ago on our way to our new Florida home! We met the breeder at the McDonald's right off of the highway!
Just got back on the boards this morning and found your TR. I have only just gotten the last of the pix downloaded into my computer and have not even started to think about a report. You are already 7 pages into yours. WOW. Looking forward to following along with your report. Glad you are such a great hunter and were able to rid the car of the pest. Your choice of the hotel was indeed nice.
Welcome Pam! She's getting into this Disney thing one step at a time.
I had the same thought
Welcome Pam!!!!
Way Point After Way Point
At 9:30 we arrived at Way Point #6 our hotel for the night, the Hampton Inn in Valdosta, Georgia. The room was spacious and well appointed, making two tired travelers very happy. Luke got all our electronics and phones hooked up to the battery charging station on his nightstand while I unpacked clothes for tomorrow. I also tried on my new swimsuit and spot cleaned both our shirts. The stains came out of my top easily, but I had to work on Luke’s monorail t-shirt again when we got to Disney. Room Review – large bathroom in contrast to the teeny bathroom we had in Macon back in December where some of you may remember that Luke had to step over the toilet to get in the shower/tub. Our room and the hotel itself were very clean with a nice décor. The mattress was quite comfortable. I got ready for bed and even set up the shower for tomorrow. Then I climbed in bed to quickly check e-mails, phone texts, and FB messages for Mother’s Day. At 10:40 my head hit the pillow and I was out. Only I was awakened a while later, maybe an hour, by something running outside. Then around 3:00 AM I simply woke up and only napped off and often afterwards. Disney excitement was really kicking in.
I'm so excited to see the room in this hotel - we'll be stopping there on our way down in July and it looks like the rooms were recently refurbished
