Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: DisneyWHAT?? - oh, DisneyLAND - 3/16-20 - Day 2/part3- Updated 3/28

After our log ride, I wanted to see more of Critter Country.

The Winnie the Pooh ride is here (in the building that used to house the Country Bears) and the theming around the ride is adorable. The photomosaic was wonderful – it was the first one I’d seen to that point that wasn’t a framed image – it had Pooh pretending to be a little, black rain cloud and he and the bees surrounding his balloon were all free floating and they slowly turned in the breeze.

[Hovering over the honey tree...]

The ride vehicles aren’t “hunny pots” here – they are beehives, which gave my apiphobic son the heebeejeebies. He overcame his bee issues, however, and hopped in a car with Zack. Once again, Karen and I took the vehicle right behind them – zoiks, not much leg room on this one!

I was surprised at how different this version is than the one in WDW – they didn’t use the conceit of the “book” and “pages” and “words,” but were more literal and took riders into the story itself. I had read in Disneyland Detective that the Country Bears had a little honorary spot in the ride, so I was looking everywhere. I was finally rewarded when, as we entered Pooh’s honey tree, I saw Melvin, Buff and Max behind us in the doorway. Calder liked it, but missed getting to bounce with Tigger, his favorite.

As we left the ride, we saw that they had a meet-n-greet with Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger and Piglet. I was happily impressed by how exceptionally well-organized it was. Instead of having to get into a line for each character, they were corralled in such a way as to let guests greet them sequentially.

Well, it would’ve been organized if a certain bouncy fellow hadn’t decided to wreak havoc! We saw Pooh first and, while Zack was posing, we were attacked!! Tigger must’ve been getting bored, so he ran past Eeyore and attacked the handlers before running up and hugging Pooh. The handlers were totally shocked It was very funny and Calder got a kick out of how surprised Pooh seemed to be. I missed it because my camera hadn’t woken up yet. I’m hoping Karen got a picture!

[Pooh]

Then it was our turn with Eeyore and he was wonderfully sweet and gentle. I’m starting to see why so many of you all are so in love with him. He’s a darling.

[Eeyore]

Then it was Tigger-time. Calder got his autograph and picture first and Tigger was having a ball playing with the Stitch hat he was wearing (that Zack had been kind enough to lend to him for the day.)

Then it was Zack’s turn. Tigger noted that Calder and Karen and I were all wearing the color appropriate to St. Patrick's Day. So he spun Zack around looking for “the green!”

[Where is it?]

Zack insisted that he was wearing green. Tigger looked at Zack’s jeans, his grey T-shirt and his dark jacket -- and shook his head. He put out a paw and threatened to pinch Zack (a custom with which I’m not familiar – if you don’t wear green, you get a pinch!)

[I’m gonna get you!]

Zack continued to insist that he WAS wearing green, but just couldn’t show it. Tigger motioned for him to “bring it on…”

[He doesn’t know what he’s asking!]

So, Zack calmly reached for the button on his jeans and was prepared to drop-trou to reveal “the green.” Suddenly, Tigger realized his tactical error and gave Zack a big bear hug to prevent him from doing anything “un-Disney…”

[STOPPPP!]

We were laughing so hard and giving Zack all kinds of praise for his character interactions.

Karen realized that Piglet wasn’t in the same corral area, but it was only a short line to see him. Zack and I were wondering why Piglet had on such dark eye-liner and we concluded that this was unusual – he doesn’t normally have such a case of crows feet, either. He must’ve been up late the night before with those darned heffalumps.

[Piglet needs a nap]

We walked away from this character encounter with a glow of happiness. It was Disney at its best – even if it was a hair away from being PG-rated.

[More in a minute]

That interaction with Tigger is an absolute classic - especially the part where he gave Zack a bear hug. I was cracking up reading that!

And yes, Piglet does look as if he'd spent the night out on the town. I wonder if he was worrying himself all night about the prospect of becoming bacon for my husband...

You sure that's not a Piglet-ette? He looks quite girly with the make-up and crow's feet

Loving the character interaction stories - they sound hysterical.

Re: DisneyWHAT?? - oh, DisneyLAND - 3/16-20 - Day 2/part3- Updated 3/28

Where to start, where to start… If Chatty Cathy Eileen doesn’t stop posting so fast, I’ll never have a shot at catching up! I can’t even tell you how excited Zack and I were to see Eileen, Calder, and Bob again. Eileen’s got the most wickedly funny sense of humor of anyone I know. She’s smart, sassy, and clever enough to want to be friends with the amazing Zack and me. Humble ain’t I?

Wednesday night (aka T –18 hours to “Operation School Cutter”) was filled with packing, shopping for snacks, finishing up some Disney surprises, and willing the clock to move faster. I kept trying to get to sleep because; as I told Eileen, faith, hope, and pixie dust (and a couple of gallons of Diet Mountain Dew) weren’t going to cut it on the 400-mile drive to Disneyland. I needed sleep. I did drift off eventually, dreaming of Disneyland, Eileen, high school parties, and nuclear weapons. Totally bizarre.

I worked, in the loosest sense of the word, until about 2 the next day, and then raced up the freeway to pick Zack up from school. Zack was going to be sick on Friday; amazing how those Disney illnesses sneak up on you, huh? So, I told him to start looking a bit under the weather around 6th or 7th period.

I wouldn’t usually have a problem taking Zack out of school for a day, but he’d missed 2 ½ days of school the week before with the flu. And, his teachers and school administrators are still under the impression that I’m a good mother, not one who’d have her child miss another day to go to Disneyland, so a little relapse seemed like a great idea. Well, drama boy laid it on a bit too thick, and almost got sent to the office early in 8th period. But, like the star that he is he just replied to his math teacher, “That’s OK. I think I can make it through the end of the day because I really want to learn.” I’ve created a total monster.

Anyway… we had San Mateo in our rear view mirror by about 2:45, and were flying down the freeway headed south. California is a gorgeous state, but the middle part? Not so much. We struggled through the boring drive on I-5, and we were headed down into the Los Angeles basin about 7:30, which is REALLY good time. I might have had just a little bit of a lead foot, now that I think about it.

For the last hour, or so, we popped in our 50th Anniversary CD. This CD is incredible; it has the broadcast of the original opening day speech from Walt and the soundtracks from the favorite rides at Disneyland, both past and present. It ends with the Leann Rimes song for the anniversary, which is the sappiest, most saccharin thing. E-V-E-R. I love every note!

I zipped and zagged through the So Cal traffic, and pulled into the massive parking structure right about 8:45. Six hours. Not too shabby. I hustled Zack out of the car, and onto the tram, and tried to catch the excitement in Zack’s face on film. No, wait not film because I’ve decided to join the 21st century at last and go digital. Anyway, here’s the sheer joy, love, and happiness that exudes from my son’s countenance when he’s headed to Disney.

That’s it. That’s as good as it gets from the pre-teen. You’d think with all of his drama experience he could at least pretend a little better for me! We had to make a quick restroom stop since peeing on your guest’s leg has ceased being the official “Welcome to California” greeting. Then we were racing towards the front gates when I spotted the lovely Lloyds.

I was a little paralyzed because I wanted to run up to Eileen and geek out all over her, but I was a little embarrassed. What if she was nonchalant and cool? So, instead I told Zack to run up to them. I seriously think the main reason I have a kid is so that he can test out the dorky waters for me. I’m embarrassed. “Hey, Zack. You go do it first.” Anyway, Eileen turned around before Zack could head out on his geek scouting mission, and all coolness slipped away. We ran towards each other, totally geeked out on each other, and hugged. I thanked Bob for letting me have Eileen for all of our Disney madness, but he told me I had to give her back. OK. OK.

I can’t top Eileen’s description of her reaction to Disneyland the first time, so I won’t try. But, for Zack and I, walking into Disneyland is like slipping on your favorite pair of slippers. It’s stopped being a vacation when we go there, and has become our magical home. We absolutely it. We had just a few minutes until fireworks, so we set up camp at the end of Main Street.

I took a bunch of pictures with my handy dandy new fireworks setting, but most of them were total garbage. I’m not an alcoholic, I swear, but there’s a serious case of the shakes at work in most of them. Gotta get me one of those handy, dandy monopods I dare say! Here’s the best of the bunch…

Eileen forgot to mention the antics of Bob at Coke Corner after the fireworks. We’d both gotten a giant pretzel shaped like a Mickey head. Bob did a little jaw surgery and had the new Mickey pretzel puppet doing a bit of stand-up for us all. But then, he decided to have the Mickey mouth “eat” a straight piece of pretzel. Well, the Mickey with a phallus in his mouth was a bit much for me. I gave Eileen “the look,” and she had her darling hubby put the pretzel porno away. We’re twisted out on the left coast I tell you!

After our snack, we chauffeured the Lloyd’s back to their motel and promptly got lost trying to find our motel. I need me some of those Karen directions!

Up Next… Day Two

Uh oh. . . I think I just had a little accident from laughing to hard! That is hysterical (just like the rest of the TR). Off to the ladies room I go!

Note to self - never read Eileen or Karen's TRs with a full bladder, or while drinking a beverage.
