Back to Bath and my donkeys… COMPLETED 7/25 - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Saturday 16 June – part four: did no-one else realise it was mixed?
We headed off for a bit of shopping. I also got some photos of the historic centre of Bath. By now, it was a lot busier outside, but then again, it was a Saturday and to be expected.
As we walked along, I spotted this random friend in a camera shop window. I have no idea what he was doing here, but it was nice to see him…
We were looking for lunch and ended up opting for Bill’s, a nationwide chain that we’d all been to before and liked it.
I got a hedgerow fizz with West Sussex elderflower cordial, frozen blackberry and topped with Prosecco. I checked whether it was sweet and the waitress confirmed it was. It was very nice and just what I was hoping it would be.
Anne, Sean and Sara all went for the fish finger sandwich, although we were all disappointed, as they’d had a set menu advertised in the window and we all liked the look of what was on it. We couldn’t see it anywhere on the main menu when we arrived and Mark spotted it mentioned at the top with the fact that it was only served on weekdays underneath. That was really disappointing. Oh well, we talked about maybe going into Maidstone to sample it one Friday evening…
Mark got the Bill’s hamburger with lettuce, tomato, red onion, secret sauce, sesame bun and fries.
I got the beetroot and goats cheese arancini with purple basil, beetroot and pine nut pesto and seed and it was lovely, just the right size for me, considering it was an appetiser, so I guess I was still full from breakfast.
However, I did make sure to leave enough space for this… the Eton mess!
It was very and I’m glad I got it.
We chatted for a while before asking for the check. We all did a restroom stop and we had an interesting experience while there. Sean and Mark went first, then the girls went. I noticed straightaway that it was a mixed restroom. For starters, it said so on the door and each cubicle was labelled up. Apparently Anne and Sara hadn’t noticed though, as Anne was about to go out and two guys were coming in. They all immediately apologised to each other and the guys assumed they’d got the wrong restroom and went around, searching for the men’s, only to return.
Anne was so embarrassed, but not as much as Sara, who had used one of the gent’s stalls, it transpired. When we went back to the table, it turned out neither Mark nor Sean had noticed the co-habiting arrangements either, and Sean had used a ladies’ stall.
Eeyore!!
Interesting bathroom arrangement. I wonder how many folks get messed up!

Quite an experience with the washrooms and especially not knowing about this before entering! Your lunch looked very good overall! Too bad the one item you wanted wasn't on the menu today.

That was a shame and a disappointment for quite a few of us.
Saturday 16 June – part five: shopping in Sidmouth
When we came out from lunch, we went into this place, but I was disappointed by it, as I was hoping to get a nice Bath Christmas ornament, but the ones they had weren’t that great.
We did a bit of shopping and visited a shop that Sean had scoped out earlier, as they might be able to get a golden wedding anniversary present for his parents. Talk about cutting it fine – their party was tonight!
We also found a Christmas present, our first this year I believe, and a cooler bag with Highland coos on, so it was a worthwhile stop.
When we came out of them, unfortunately it had started to rain. We shopped and browsed a bit more, but as some of the places were market stalls out in the open, sadly it wasn’t that fun. In the end, after a few minutes, Anne, Sean and Sara decided they’d better head back. After all, they had to get home for a party tonight. We said our goodbyes and headed back to the car park, inputted our licence plate details and paid our parking and headed out of Bath.
We ended up taking a different route to the one we’ve done before and ended up passing through a town called Radstock that has a mining history, as we could see from the signs and the museum in the centre of the town. Neither of us had any idea coal was mined around here, so you really do find something new out every day.
We made our way most of the way to Sidmouth and passed through Ottery St. Mary, which we’ve been through before, and it is a beautiful place. I finally managed to get some shots of it…
As we were running early and check-in at our bed and breakfast was only between 4:00pm and 6:00pm, we decided to head into the centre of Sidmouth first. We parked up and had a wander through the town, visiting various local shops. I love the fact that there are so many unique shops here. I got a fridge magnet, but despite looking in a couple of galleries, I couldn’t find any pictures of Sidmouth that wowed me, which is what I was hoping to find. Oh well.
We both liked these T-shirts, although annoyingly, these designs were on the back, not the front, which was a shame.
We were very impressed to find a National Trust shop here. There aren’t many of those, so it was neat to browse them…
Next : I bet the next time we come back, it won’t be here any longer
