It’s Always Sunny in California!..Eh?...L’il Bit! - Page 7 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh, isn't that area around Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam's so pretty? You had an amazing view with the pool and the Disneyland sign.
I'm with you on CA...you had just seen the REAL old Hollywood, not exactly the most exciting theme for you to enter into that night.
I'm impressed that after your insanely busy day you hit the hot tub and managed to get out to a park after that!!! I would have hit the rack, I'm sure.
1st - great pix as always
2nd - You're tour of US sounded great -- nice to have insiders
3rd - dinner looked divine! I am not about raw meat either
4th - I don't think it's weird to walk around cemeteries at all - in fact my BFF and I do it all the time (never at night)... we like looking at the very old ones, we find them quite fascinating.
5th - your hotel in DL looks great!! Love the picture\art\painting over the beds!!
Off to read more... you're an updating machine!!

Looking forward to your MK report!

Thanks!
WE always find cemetaries fascinating too! We had another friend who lived right next to one and we used to walk over to it all the time.

Yeah, I had no clue where anything was and I was pretty much at the opposite side of the park.

I believe it happens on weekends. It's a big dance party from what I can tell. I know it is a big attraction for locals.
Keri texted me and said they were watching the World of Color from the front of the Little Mermaid ride, so I pressed on.
I slowed down just slightly to get a couple pictures of Carsland as I passed by.
Finally I spotted them and we hugged and said hellos and she introduced me to her friend that was with her. She told me her son had left already, and we were sad I couldn’t meet him, as I feel like I know him as well from all she posts about him on facebook.
We chatted and watched WoC from afar. It wasn’t a great location, but it did give me a nice enough view to know I enjoyed it. I think when I had arrived it was more than half over.
This is where we were standing.
More World of Color.
They had some fire balls and even from this distance they were quite warm….I had to wonder how hot they were to the people closer to them.
They sure named this show appropriately….lots of color!!!!
And of course we had to get a picture together before the night ended…and again they are phone pictures and it has the messed up flash.
When the show ended Keri and friends headed out, but I decided to hang back. I just hate walking like hearded cattle with the crowds, so I took pictures instead.
After the crowds thinned a bit I made a restroom stop and then worked my way to the exit.
I also found where the Grand Californian entrance is when I was walking out. I knew the resort was close, but I had no idea how it was basically right up against the park. I was impressed.
As I exited the park, I had a decision to make. Disneyland was still open till 11 and I believe it was close till 10:30 now. Should I go over and take a quick look? I wasn’t sure, so as I exited I asked if I needed a hand stamp. I had been told that DLR uses hand stamps to re-enter the parks and I wanted to be on the safe side if I decided to head across the way. I was told no, a stamp was not needed and I exited with the crowds.
Uh Oh--this is making me wonder if you got some bum info and weren't able to get into the other park!
But regardless, I'm glad you were able to meet up with your friend and enjoy some of the show that evening. What a delightful day you had!
WoC looks great. Glad you were able to see it even if it was somewhat back. being there I believe that I would have hopped over to DL and enjoyed the last half hour and then get some pix walking out.
How great that you got to see your friend, and a bit of WOC! Hand stamps... wow, sounds antiquated!
Yes, they use handstamps there. They have a very different system and it's one thing I was not impressed with.

They really didn't enforce the handstamp thing too harshly. During busy times they didn't stamp.

It was a nice night. Nothing like chatting with a friend with all those colors around you.

I made my decision quickly…yes I needed to go over to Disneyland and at least see the Castle. I would be a fool not to, right?
I was amazed at how many people were doing the exact same thing too. When I entered they asked for my hand stamp, but I told them that I was told I didn’t need one and they let me in with no issues.
I took a look down Main Street and got a glimpse of the castle.
I was pleasantly surprised. So many people warned me at how small this castle is, and though it is smaller, it was actually much bigger than I expected it to be.
I walked down Main Street to get a closer look and stopped and tried to do an artsy picture that really didn’t turn out the way I wanted it too, but hey, I had been up for almost 23 hours straight at this point.
I glanced over towards Tomorrowland.
And a look back towards the entrance.
At this point I was fading fast. Being up for 23 hours was really taking its toll on me.
Before I left though, I had to check if Walt was in the park….and of course he was.
As I was heading out, the big Cheese himself was walking by. I tried for a couple of pictures, but it was so dark there and I wasn’t quick enough to switch on the flash.
I headed back towards the DL hotel and this time the walk seemed a little longer.
As I walked back I thought about my first park experiences and I had mixed feelings. CA did not give me much of a Disney feeling at all. DL gave me only a slight one. Of course it was late, I was rushed, and I had been up for many hours. It did get better throughout the week, but I never had the same feelings that I get at WDW. That doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, I just feel differently about WDW, most likely because that was my first and only Disney park experience for many years.
So after my trek back through DTD, I arrived at the DLH and made my way back into our building, which by the way was the Fantasy Tower, which also was the main building with the lobby.
I headed back to the room and tried to be very quiet as I entered as to not bother Cass. I sure didn’t want to annoy the heck out of her on our first day together. But I barely got in the room and she asked me how the night went, so she wasn’t asleep yet, or only just falling asleep. We talked a bit and I told her what I did and then she told me her sandwich from EoS was awful and she ended up throwing most of it away. That was such a bummer. I love EoS too and I hope it was just a fluke. It would be sad to see them going downhill, or this branch just not producing the quality we’ve all come to love at WDW.
After chatting a bit, I went out like a light. It had been such a long day and the bed was comfy (and it was ALL mine…no husband to share with) and I just sank right into it and let the dreams take me away….a L’il bit!
